Bishop in SA currently being brought before the courts
And I hope they “squeeze him like a lemon”. Because he has to answer for. And we all need to know “what the hell went through his mind”. To draw all necessary lessons!

There must have been no short amount of social forces involved in such poor decisions. And it serves no one if we get only a partial picture of the circumstances that brought forth such a calamity.

Think of the numbers posted by jfz…

4-7% at most are possibly guilty… let’s be generous and say 10%.

So if 10% are guilty of sexual assault, that means that 90% are innocent.

Are you going to judge 100% of people based on the bad actions of 10%?

Again a poster asked if you would do the same thing to a racial group.

If 10% of Muslim immigrants were guilty of sexual crimes, would you judge 100% of them and despise them all?

I’m sorry that you feel this way LittleFlower. Please know that there are so many holy priests out there. It’s like that quote: “Priests are like airplanes: when one falls, its all over the news, and people forget that every other plane is still flying.”
I could never have the view that “all priests are abusers” like so many people do today, because my parish priest is such a holy man. He is always gentle, humble, kind, very generous - a living Saint really 🙂 He offers Mass with so much reverence, and is always there for his parishioners. I am so thankful to God for him. I hope that you can find such a priest, they are definitely out there!
Here’s what Pope Benedict XVI has to say on the subject. It sums up everything you need:
"You all know how deeply the community of faith has been wounded recently through the attacks of the evil one, through the penetration of sin itself into the interior, yes, into the heart of the Church. Do not make that an excuse to flee from the face of God! You yourselves are the Body of Christ, the Church! Bring the undiminished fire of your love into this Church whose countenance has so often been disfigured by man. “Never flag in zeal, be aglow with the Spirit, serve the Lord!” (Rom 12:11) “

And I hope they “squeeze him like a lemon”. Because he has to answer for. And we all need to know “what the hell went through his mind”. To draw all necessary lessons!

Here we are innocent until proven guilty. Does he have a case to answer? Is he being framed?
We shall find out.

Here’s the thing about this all now, Vendettas abound amongst the truth. But then he will be first cab off the rank in a long line of people from all walks of society. Police, teachers, medical, public children’s home carers, detention officers.

We either learn by our mistakes as nations, or history repeats itself.
Hopefully we are learning.
And this will never be repeated.

As I said, satan tried so very hard to destroy my Church, my clergy, little flower’s faith, and he lost. How do you attack a Church first, go for its servants, corrupt them, corrupt the confessional, stop people seeking to be absolved for their sins. Stop people coming to Mass, praying,

At the time this was going on, it was also going on in the public schools. One public school principal was sent to her maj’s guest house for exactly the same thing. And his school was within cooee of the Catholic school with religious that are now at the same prisons.

A report is an accusation, it’s not proof of anything. Stop trying to redefine the english language to suit your arguement.

We bring up females, within those 7%, to insinuate what? That there are also women in the clergy who abused those children?!
He said RELIGUOUS and LAITY as well.

What, you think a Catholic nun is above reproach?

Yes that’s true, however we are not discussing accusations. We are discussing fact. Where these people are now in jail.

Your incredulity is a normal given response.

And this response is one of the reasons this happened for so long.

He is a she.
I am a she.

Yes both genders, satan wasn’t fussy about who was corrupted.

It is a broader social problem, the main reason there is “no culture” of accountability, is because the powerful and the politicians would be the first accountable. The “culture of corruption” is institutional and moves “top to bottom”.

The report clearly says 7% accused. Was there a 100% conviction rate? I am talking facts and ad hominem attacks are a logical fallacy.

In these cases “proof of fact” is almost impossible unless the child is immediately subjected to medical testing. And there are witnesses to the time surrounding the circumstances.

So kindly point me to the part that supports your arguement that after a massive enquiry encouraged people to come forward, 7% is likely to be an under estimate?

That’s St Pope John Paul 11 with a little dog
Not sure if it’s his little dog.

I understand the complexity of analysing crime statistics. The actual rate of guilt is not 0% and it is not 100% for any crime category we know of.

You cannot possibly have read the tome of the Royal Commission that fast. Seriously!

Please be mindful that there will be victims and survivors and their families, and the families of those who suicided , potentially reading this thread.

It is raw and painful. We have a new chapter in March.

I responded to be supportive to little flower. It’s an experience we are living.

Perhaps start another thread if you wish to dispute the Royal Commission findings. After reading case 50.

I’m convinced that the Church is following in the footsteps of Peter it’s rock of faith.

Like Peter like the Catholic Church

Peter was the one Satan desired to sift, Then when He recovered Jesus called him to comfort his brothers.
