I have read the debates (other posts) on the Euchrist and whom should distribute it and how and how it should be taken. I am still pondering all of that.

But aside from all of that, how do you prepare yourself for Communion. How do you ensure that you approach with true knowledge and faith. There have been times when I am distracted (I have children and they can hinder my full focus, at times) and find myself going and partaking and not really appreciating what just happened. There are other times that I am so aware, that I feel myself tremble and tears come to my eyes, which I have to fight back, and I know that God is giving of Himself and will soon be in me: He makes Himself palpable and that is incredible and beautiful and just amazing! The times that I experience this, I just meditate a little beforehand and I pray that God give me clarity. I envision something related to the cross and it circumsizes my heart to receive Christ in His fullness. What do you do? Do you always receive with the upmost reverence and awe?

I want constant awe and reverence of and for Him,

I usually try to “prepare” (as best a sinner can) to receive Our Lord, by paying full attention to the Mass. I know this is harder for mom’s and dad’s, with little ones. Especially, when it becomes necessary to walk away with them… for short periods. It must be very difficult and distracting. God bless you. But in tending to your little’s ones needs, you are ministering to Christ.

My advice would be to just offer everything you can, to Jesus… prior to receiving Him. Make everything an “offering”. If you can, add an Act of Contrition, an Act of Love, an Act of Hope (whatever you have time for). Then approach His altar, with the full knowledge that you are about to receive the Precious Body (and Blood) of Our Lord Jesus. He is truly Present.

Don’t be ashamed of those tears… either. Let others (especially your children) SEE that you believe. God bless you abundantly.

The thing that helps me most is keeping in mind that the Holy Eucharist is only available because Jesus suffered and died for us. He gave his life. Since he gave his life, I’m reconciled to God. Everything I have, I owe to God. I run these things through my mind while waiting to receive. After that how could I not appreciate it?!?! Afterward, I spend my time thanking him for his sacrifice.
