CBC News:
B.C. bishop severely beaten
RCMP were called to the Sacred Heart Cathedral in the B.C. Interior city on Friday night, and found Bishop David Monroe bleeding on the floor of the church rectory. Police believe he had been beaten with a blunt object.
Monroe, 69, was rushed to hospital, along with another priest who dislocated a shoulder trying to fend off the attacker.
“We pray for the bishop and for the conversion of the guy who hurt the bishop,” said Rev. Derrick Cameron. “Certainly, he [Monroe] could have died if we weren’t there. Timing-wise, he would have bled to death.”
The assailant fled the church, but police say they tracked down the suspect.
“We started backtracking to see what else had gone on in the evening, and one thing that did catch our eye was that a couple hours previous there was an adult male that was brought to the Kamloops hospital by some family members who were concerned for his mental health,” said RCMP Staff Sgt. Garry Kerr. “They said his mental state was quite deteriorated and he was apparently having some delusions of some sort involving religion.”
Prayers for Bishop Monroe the assailant.

Who does that? What has society come to? That is darn right sad.

It’s the same with the elderly people being beaten up and robbed by ferral 19 year old teenagers.

Prayers go up for the good Bishop and the Priest who defended him.

Don’t read the comments on the news article , people are trying to blame Christianity/Catholicism, and the bishop for this attack. People are messed up.

Bishop Monroe was not the assailant.

He was the victim.

As a general rule, try not to read the comments for any CBC story (unless you enjoy a good spike in your blood pressure). Taxpayer funded with a strong liberal bias…need I say more?

Simma down…I’m sure it was an honest mistake that no-one here will misunderstand. Prayers for ALL involved.

He is a Bishop after all. I am more willing to respect and defend than most here.

Telling.

I look for evidence to back up a claim.

Apparently, that is a lost art here.

When I read this just now, my first thought was the death of St. Thomas Becket. Eerie similarities, if I say so myself.

I am sure that I must have misunderstood the intent of the thread in this case.

I also extend my deepest thoughts for one I will take to Mass with me tomorrow.

Sorry for the confusion,

SJ

Will be there tomorrow, at the 10:30 with the beautiful choir.

:"A 30-year-old man is in custody following the severe beating of a Kamloops Roman Catholic Bishop Friday night.

Monsignor Jerry Desmond, vicar general of the Kamloops Roman Catholic Diocese, confirmed that Bishop David Monroe, 69, was viciously assaulted at the rectory of the Sacred Heart Cathedral Friday and suffered serious head wounds.

“It’s quite a tragedy. We pray for the recovery of the Bishop and the mental state of the [suspect],” said Desmond, who visited the bishop in hospital Friday night.

Desmond said Monroe was not conscious during the visit, but he has since received a report that the bishop was able to say his name and give other basic details to police on Saturday."

Very sorry, way too late to change. Should have been

“Prayers for Bishop Monroe AND the assailant.”

The Catholic community in Kamloops is in shock today after their bishop was severely beaten inside the Sacred Heart Cathedral rectory late Friday night

May the Bishop recover fully.
May the attacker get the help he so obviously needs.

In Christ’s name we ask this.

Peace
James

This is really upsetting news. 😦

This past August Bishop David J. J. Monroe blessed the new convent for the Discalced Carmelite Nuns in Armstrong, B.C.

When I first read the post I also thought that the O.P. made an honest mistake by forgetting the “and” so let us pray for both Bishop David. J. J. Monroe and the assailant.

Wow! Reading through the comments of the CBC post, there is a lot of ignorant hate spouting from the pages.

This could only be the beginning of a much bigger persecution.
