I wonder if Mary had to sit in the “cry room” with Jesus?

===
Oh for Heaven’s Sake!
Please stop!

nope it is impeding when we say keep your kids at home…they really do not need to be at mass…and I have counted two posters that have expressed this sentiment!
Please define “impeding” and what’s wrong with the fact that kids not of the age of reason don’t need to be at Mass?

Jesus is everywhere but he is present in a different form at Mass in the form of the Eucharist. To deny Jesus to children is going against his own words. To deny the graces associated with attending Mass to children is a great disservice.

I wasn’t quoting Jesus directly, I was paraphrasing. Many “children should be seen but not heard” people forget the lines in the Bible talking about not impeeding children from coming to him.
Good Grief!

You are joking right?
my kids are welcome in the CHurch and at mass regardless of their age…they have been baptised in the faith/church and I will not keep them away from Mass just becuase you feel kids have no business at Church/Mass!

This isn’t the best picture but it might help give you a visual on what I’m talking about. This was taken inside the main church.

You can see the wooden doors closed and on the left hand side of the picture you can see the "glass wall” It is there in the vestibule that you will find the chair for people to sit in. The glass is in between the “columns”

If you look between the “columns” you can see a door way and to the right of the door way you can make out a picture frame hang on the wall. That door way and picture are actually in the vestibule.

The wall is the same way on the otherside of the wooden doors. I know this isn’t the best picture it might help show how things are at my parish.

A cry room is for criers, not for adults who are not crying.
Your solution won’t work, but give it a shot, who knows.
I actually like this idea myself, folks could clean up the place and make sure the audio equipment is satisfactory.
Since it’s probably smelly in there (the moms who left it dirty probably won’t clean it first for the adults…but oh well…)
maybe we can’t get some incense or scented candles after it’s scrubbed down with clorox.
Just as an FYI…the cryroom is generally not smelly because people leave dirty diapers, but rather because there are lots of kids who have accidents or babies with gas in a small, poorly ventilated room.

and what’s wrong with the fact that kids not of the age of reason don’t need to be at Mass?
You must of missed the
  1. Children—even as infants—are part of the baptized assembly, which is the Body of Christ
Also by including the Mass in a child’s life from the very beginning, it is a real part of their life. If you wait till the age of reason which is at 8 or 9, then Mass becomes in the same category as school… you have to go.

I have not been involved in this thread but did want to say this. I take my daughter to Mass and have done so every Sunday since she was born. Yes, many times I have taken her out screaming or yelling “No, I don’t want a spanking” but thankfully my parish realizes that if you want a child raised in the way he should go, then you have to start young. At three years old is my daughter perfect in Mass. NO! But, she is on her way to good behaviour and tries her best to participate by singing etc. She now knows that if she wants to go to Heaven then Mass is a part of that deal.

Ok, so you expect a kid t the age of 5 to walk into a church, sit still, pay attention and behave perfectly when they don’t know what is going on, or why it is required of them? Get real Mass is the place for kids to be so they can learn the propriety of the Mass. How to sit and be still, when to pray, make the sign of cross, sign of peace, sing. It is how they learn their faith and the tradtions therein.

Pax vobiscum

Good Grief!
Very well thought out rebuttal.

And what is wrong with anything I said. Do you deny that Jesus is present in a different form at Mass?

Do you deny that Jesus said to not impeed the children?

Do you deny that there are graces for attending Mass?

CCC #1253
*Baptism is the sacrament of faith.54 But faith needs the community of believers. It is only within the faith of the Church that each of the faithful can believe. The faith required for Baptism is not a perfect and mature faith, but a beginning that is called to develop. The catechumen or the godparent is asked: “What do you ask of God’s Church?” The response is: “Faith!” *
And how are the kids supposed to have faith if you leave them at home when they should be at Mass???
CCC# 1267 Baptism makes us members of the Body of Christ: "Therefore . . . we are members one of another."72 Baptism incorporates us into the Church. From the baptismal fonts is born the one People of God of the New Covenant, which transcends all the natural or human limits of nations, cultures, races, and sexes: “For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body.”
Hmm…it would seem my kiddies are welcome to be at Mass.
CCC#1269 Having become a member of the Church, the person baptized belongs no longer to himself, but to him who died and rose for us.76 From now on, he is called to be subject to others, to serve them in the communion of the Church, and to “obey and submit” to the Church’s leaders,77 holding them in respect and affection.78 Just as Baptism is the source of responsibilities and duties, the baptized person also enjoys rights within the Church: to receive the sacraments, to be nourished with the Word of God and to be sustained by the other spiritual helps of the Church.79
once again it is my KIDS right to be at Mass:thumbsup:

I was never breast fed. but in the last two weeks mothers quieted their crying children by breast feeding them in church during the Mass. And boy did that work wonders–better than juice or cherrios.

I apoligize if somebody else brought this up.

Post #294. Everything about that post states kids should not be at Mass instead they should be in baby sitting, home, etc.
This is post 294
No, she didn’t.
She just justified the behaviors that caused the problems in the first.
The babies do not need to be at Mass. If the parents refuse to use the crying room they are glorying in their dilemma and that really bothers me.
CLEAN the crying room, for Heaven’s sake! I can’t believe that the mothers are too lazy to clean up after their own kids and leave a smelly room!
If everyone pitches in the rooms can be very nice.
If they are smelly that means that someone (read the parents!) are failing to do their fair share.<<
It doesn’t say “shouldn’t be” it states “don’t have to be.”
Unless you can give the CCC that states that they must be at mass, this poster is correct.

Now, where is the poster that stated that children should NOT be at mass.

it does not say “must”…

2042 The first precept (“You shall attend Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation.”) requires the faithful to participate in the Eucharistic celebration when the Christian community gathers together on the day commemorating the Resurrection of the Lord.[82]

it does not say “must”…
Exactly. There is no “must” to it.
That being said, all children have a perfect right to be at Holy Mass.

Being at Holy Mass and being part of the community also has some responsibilty to the feelings of others. While children themselves cannot be responsible for this themselves at certain tender ages, it falls to the parents to be considerate of others.

I defalt to Jmcrae who put it marvelously…

Jmcrae:
So it’s “impeding children from coming to Jesus” if we require age-appropriate civilized behavior from them, and an awareness on their part of where they are?

totally agree ecept for infants this is a bit much to expect…never said I did not…I believe all children are welcome at Mass …as is their right as Members of the Church!

I think that most people here actually agree.
I love to see children at mass. I’ve got a few of my own, wish I had more!

I think that the problem comes in with…
  1. Cryrooms that are parent purgatory because some feel it’s a playground and some feel it’s a place for conversation. Something truly needs to be done about it and it starts with you (plural).
  2. The hard of hearing or specially challenged deserve the same consideration as parents. And yes that includes seniors who can be overly sensitive sometimes. Some seniors have forgotten tact in their age.
  3. Parents need to ignore/people need to overlook.
Just because someone ticks at you does not mean that your life is over. And just because this week a mother was too lost in her own prayer to watch her own child, doesn’t mean that you missed Holy Mass.
Most important of all, if anyone sees a constant problem, communication is the key. No one is helped by enabling behavior. If parents are ignoring, people just resent them. If parishioners are ticking, that’s rude too, Smile and tell them in a nice way that what they are doing doesn’t help the situation.

I was at a Mass, presiding was the Bishop. I believe it was during is homely, a baby began making some loud noises.

The Bishop stopped and clearly articulated something along the lines of … that the most beautiful sound you will hear in a church is the sound of a child.

I thought that was so nice. The parents were likely already embarrassed…and then to have that directed at them…excellent.
