My son is 2 and a half weeks old. My youngest brother is the only man in my immediate family that is dedicated to the Traditional Mass. I asked him to be my son’s godfather/baptismal sponsor not long after finding out I was having a son for this reason. He agreed and promised me he would be here for his baptism within the first week of his life. Both of our parents have passed away but were very devout and my mom was insistent on babies being baptized at 8 days as is traditional b ut as soon as possible mo matter. I know if she was still here that she would be on my behind about this. My brother has a new job working 6 days a week and has since my baby’s being born informed me that he cannot take off work, and will be available only in August when this job is over. I live in rural KY and drive an hour to Lexington to go to Trad Mass when I can afford the gas. My entire family lives in TX and my inlaws family is all Baptist, so they are out of the question to be godparents. I do not really know anyone from the parish we attend to ask to be sponsor/godfather but the priest himself. I have not been able to get to Mass since his birth (c-section ugh) to talk to Fr. about this situation and need some advice from other Trad Catholics. I believe I know what my mom would say-that this boy needs to be baptized now for we don’t know what the future holds really. I just cannot see waiting until Aug and shirking my responsibility to my son should something happen between now and then. I mean it to be no insult to my brother, but my son’s salvation is too important to me. Seriously, what would you suggest/do??? Thanks.
