My wife and I are at opposite ends when it come to names. How did you and your spouse come to an agreement? Also, what name first and middle did you choose and why. Thanks, and god bless to you all.
That’s how we do it too.My wife and I decided that I got to name our child if it was a boy and she would if it was a girl… Thankfully we had a boy
God bless
Oh, well, Bama, it would have been nice to meet you, live and in person, but I don’t want to shatter your illusions! :sad_bye: (or maybe I just did…I tend to favor Christian-Anglo names I have a positive association with. Whether those connections are real or not, doesn’t matter, just my perceptions.
Some names just fit people, and some don’t. For me the female name Amy is connected with petite, and attractive, because I don’t think I’ve met a Amy that did not have those characteristics. I knew a lady when I was a boy (wont tell her name) who was overbearing, big, bossy, and I forever associated her name with those attributes. And more often then not, every lady I met with that name was pretty much the same. LOL
Personally, I think at least one of the child’s names should have some kind of family connection, and be Christian. But I’m a old fashioned kinda “guy.” I’m proud to carry my father’s name in the middle of mine. It gives me a sense of connection on where I come from.
I think letting the father pick his son’s and wife if it’s a girl is good.
So your name is Amy??Oh, well, Bama, it would have been nice to meet you, live and in person, but I don’t want to shatter your illusions!
My name is Debby and I’m just not a Deborah. Most people call me Deb or Duck (don’t ask). I admit my goal at 15 was to be a cheerleader but I never “made it”. Both my sisters were cheerleaders, and one is even named Candy. Cute when you’re 3, but strange at 46. She does still look like a Candy, and she’s the queen of the soccer moms, so it works for her. The other sister went from Laury to Laura, and that works for her. We call her Walter anyway (again, too dumb to explain). We call Candy Draggie, so Walter looks pretty good. We ARE a nickname-y family, and those who marry in just have to get used to it.No problem with boys names, but picking girls’ names was a nightmare. It was the late 1970s, early 1980s. And we talked and we talked and we talked about names. I told him every name he selected sounded like they should have pom-poms permanently sewn on their arms. He said the names I chose were better suited for those handing out flowers on street corners. I would say “Joclyn.” He would say “Debby.” I would offer up “Amber.” He would counter with “Sandy.” And, of course, we had three girls . . .
Finally in the process we would settle on a name and that would be it . . . In the end, all of our children did receive names!![]()
