Nitrates, mercury and sinful questionable origin deliciousness. šŸ˜›
😃
I also got the fisheye from people while pregnant and waiting in line at starbucks…like ā€œoh how DARE you be drinking coffee! Let’s call the pregnancy police!ā€ Never mind that my doctor said one cup of coffee a day is fine, never mind that starbucks sells decaf, never mind that they sell beverages other than coffee and no one knew what I was ordering. Didn’t matter. I just didn’t belong in the starbucks line, apparently. People just love to judge the pregnant woman. I guess it makes them feel better about themselves.

For those of us who are fathers… What is the objections to hot dogs, tuna or taco bell ?
Hot dogs - processed meat, nitrates
Tuna - mercury
Taco Bell - Meat of unknown origin, I guess? Didn’t they use horse meat at some point or maybe rumored mad cow beef or something? I think it was the horse meat, rather than mad cow because that was just a rumor.

As far as Taco Bell, I ate there when I was pregnant with my second child and got really sick. I haven’t eaten there since only because the idea still makes me ill and my son is now 15. 😃 He loves Taco Bell, by the way, though he rarely eats there. šŸ™‚

Just thinking about all the pro-choice hipster types in Starbucks sneering at a pregnant woman getting coffee makes me shake my head.

I pretty much was run out of town on Baby Bump for my conservative ā€œattitudeā€ towards abortion.

I think I posted the true stats of how many babies have been aborted in the US and the world. I don’t remember the specifics of my post, it was over a year ago, but I believe I included the word ā€œmurderā€ as well.

My post was immediately removed by the moderator and I was sent an email about charitable posting…yeah, okay!

It’s funny…because, even though a majority of the girls that post on these forums are very secular, liberal and agnostic/atheist…you do see some girls who post that are Christian and very conservative.
I didn’t meet any Roman Catholics…but their were quite a few girls who were baptist, AOG or some form of non-denom.
Many of those girls were socially conservative when it came to homosexuality, marriage in general and abortion.

It was really refreshing seeing other girls on such a liberal forum speak out for Christ.

There are some great Catholic Mom boards on Facebook too, with plenty of pregnant women! Catholic Moms and Real Catholic Moms are two that come to mind.

Off topic, but…

I wonder what the outcome would be if a pregnant woman was given the ā€œfisheyeā€ and judged by some stranger for eating or drinking something and the woman said, ā€œOh don’t worry, I’m going to have an abortion so it doesn’t matter what I eat or drink.ā€šŸ¤·

Never set foot in Baby Center. I was under the impression that it’s a bit of an echo chamber. I’d probably be thrown out for formula feeding before I’d have a chance to say anything else. šŸ˜‰

Even The Bump…I spent most of my time there on the board specifically made for other women due the same month as I was rather than the main boards. Still liberal but not overwhelmingly so. There was enough variety in beliefs and parenting styles and preferences to prevent or stop mob bullying. They were a pretty good group actually. If a ā€œhot topicā€ came up most people tended to let it die and not take the bait. We weren’t there to shout at each other.

Yes! I started a separate thread by the title 1984 in which I stated that it was kinda creepy that you’d be considered personally attacking others to state an opinion contrary to the status quo. I was then personally attacked 🤷 and a battle of semantics ensued. It was removed after about an hour and a half.
Actually, that thread is still there… I’m reading it now!

It must have been allowed after review then, I was emailed that it was flagged and removed until someone reviewed it. Everyone assumed I was trying to assert my right to judge someone, but was merely saying I thought it was a tad one-sided. Or did I word it all wrong? I tried to be diplomatic…but then I just tucked tail and ran!😊

I got a few of those on Circle of Moms. I don’t think I was ever reported but they sure did yell at me. I can’t remember which forum I was on a few years ago, but I got a warning because I posted in a thread that was a week old, that was still on the front page.

I wasn’t given a formal boot but after a heated debate over a post from a woman aborting her Down Syndrome child I asked where the line was drawn between a personal attack and an expression of a pro-life opinion. Since abortion is categorized by Babycenter as a legal medical procedure any statement to the contrary is considered a personal attack, I said it seemed a little Orwellian…and I was flagged for abuse and the firestorm of comments began. Just feel unwelcome there now.
That is just disgusting. So sorry you were made to feel so unwelcome.

Good grief! Reading this thread makes my head and heart hurt. OP, please avoid that drama. Internet tough guys are no fun nor are people who can’t understand a different point of view and belief system. Plus, internet drama is stressful and both baby and momma do not benefit from stress.

As for the rest of it, I would have been drawn and quartered if the prevailing views of today on what pregnant women should and shouldn’t do existed back when I was having kids. If I had a craving I went with it. I ate Taco Bell and bologna sandwiches. I had some coffee here and there. I did physical work that would make people cringe now, but I felt good doing it. Pshaw to the ā€œpregnancy policeā€.

Hmm, do we (pregnant women) have the right to put the life and health of our children at risk? Especially for a little indulgence? Is it worth it?

I don’t know. And I’m not judging (my wonderful mom enjoyed her Diet Coke while pregnant with my youngest sister). I know my pregnant sisters are doing the best they can with the resources and knowledge they have! And I sure know how no one is judged more harshly than moms and moms-to-be. But on a pro-life forum where people feel that babies in utero have just as much right to life as their mothers, this seems a little contradictory to me.

americanpregnancy.org/pregnancyhealth/caffeine.html
Caffeine has been linked to miscarriage.
americanpregnancy.org/pregnancyhealth/foodstoavoid.html
Mercury can cause brain damage in development.

Light tuna is OK in moderation, by the way, so people oughtn’t be gasping with horror if a pregnant woman has a tunafish sandwich.

Look, also remember that research is flawed, and not every prohibition has equally good evidence behind it. There is exceedingly good evidence that regular alcohol, tobacco use, and drugs in pregnancy significantly ups the chances for miscarriages, stillbirths, birth defects, and other unfortunate outcomes. The research on caffeine is not at that same level; although the researchers try to tease out the effect of caffeine from other confounders, but it’s pretty difficult to do and the studies all have flaws and biases. (Plus, they made a rather arbitrary comparison between women consuming more than 200 mg of caffeine and women consuming none.)

Obviously, you want to do what’s best for your unborn child. The reality is that pretty nearly everything in the world carries some risk to it; if you get into an automobile, you are risking your child’s life if there’s an accident. Apparently, if you live near a major highway, you have a greater chance of some adverse outcome–I forget which, but you get the idea.

So yes, I do believe in trying to assess the risks and benefits of what you’re doing–and to my mind, the occasional Taco Bell meal (which has pretty much nothing good in it nutritionally) may be an acceptable indulgence. After all, keeping Mom happy is a real benefit, too!

And strangers really have no right to make that assessment for you, unless you are doing something unambiguously harmful like actually shooting up with crack in front of them. I would be highly annoyed with someone who gave me the stinkeye because I was buying hard liquor; I would be buying it NOT to drink myself, and I don’t need to explain that to other people.

Of course, to get back to the OP, I think that contemplating the deliberate snuffing out of a little one’s life IS one of those unambiguous actions that calls for comment. Eating a hot dog, not so much.
