I am now being referred for an MRI as they can’t figure out what is going on. Thank you ALL so much for your prayers. I am praying that God blesses each one of you!

Thank you all for your prayers!! My back is better one day and worse the next. It’s been such a yo-yo experience. I was at physical therapy last night and he said he wanted to try traction with me. At the time he did it I didn’t have any problems but an hour later I was worse off than when I came in to him. Nerve pain shooting down the leg and this morning numb/tingling. It gets frustrating because I’m just not sure what’s going on. I get so much advise it starts getting confusing. I’m trusting the Lord in this care and your wonderful prayers. Thank you!

I’m sorry you’re in so much pain - Back pain SUCKS! I should know - On the last MRI, my Lumbar Spine looked so bad I considered applying for FEMA funds! :bigyikes: I’ve had just about every symptom and tried just about everything you described on this thread.

The MRI you described in a later post should show you what’s causing the shooting pains along with the tingling/numbness. Make sure the Doctor describes it to you, and bring someone who’s familiar with Orthopedic issues to listen & to help you ask questions.

Some of what works FOR ME:
Sleeping on the side - Modified Fetal position with thin pillow between legs
Pain Clinic - Doctors who specialize in Chronic Pain
NO Lifting OVER 15-18 lbs TOTAL or 10 lbs. on any one side*
Things Lifted are ALWAYS in BALANCE*
TENS Device
Ice after P/T when I do P/T*
Modified Traction (but I have to REST afterwards)*
Hot Showers - Jacuzzi
  • You may be allowed to lift more, but the “IN BALANCE” rule would remain.
  • People don’t realize the necessity for rest after P.T., esp. when dealing with the back - I wish more Physical Therapists would remind their patients to rest & take it easy for at least 1 or 2 hours.
The one Doctor told you to “Sleep on the Floor”, because it used to be believed that a FIRM BED bed helped a Bad Back. I know a lumpy, saggy mattress doesn’t help, but I got no real benefit from sleeping on the floor, esp. since I’m a “Side Sleeper”. OTOH, I’ve found Lying on the floor with my feet up (I call it “The dead horse position” :p) for 1/2 an hour does temporarily ease some of the strain on my lower spine.

If you mattress &/or Box Spring is over 10 years old, you might consider replacing the whole thing - It’s doing you back NO favors, and it’s probably part of the problem. If you ask your Chiropractor & your Doctors, I’m sure they’ll all suggest different beds to you. And, Commercials with all of their claims aren’t exactly helpful. You could do a thread where you ask your Brothers & Sisters in Catholic Answers who have Bad Backs what Beds we’re using…

You’ll still get a myriad of responses, but you’ll also get feedback as to what works for people who are suffering as you are suffering.

Blessings to all you who are praying for me- thank you!
I am feeling somewhat better the past few days but hold my breath and hope because I tend to “yo-yo”…better for awhile, then worse, then better… 😦 I had my MRI but haven’t heard from my doctor and am hoping to hear something this Tuesday.
