Justin Raimondo should, but of course won’t, earn a Pulitzer for his reporting on this.

Background To Betrayal

Excerpt…
*Has I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, the vice president’s chief of staff, made a deal with CIA leak investigator Patrick J. Fitzgerald – and turned on his boss in return for leniency? *
*It sure looks like it. Or else how is it that Scooter suddenly discovered his notes of a “previously undisclosed” conversation held with Cheney on June 12, 2003, in which the vice president was the first to tell him that Joe Wilson’s wife, Valerie, worked for the CIA? Prior to Scooter’s eleventh-hour revelation, he had been telling the grand jury that he got the information from journalists. *

*That makes at least three neocons “turned” by the Bulldog. Libby follows John Hannah, the VP’s national security adviser, and David Wurmser, Cheney’s Middle East expert-in-residence, down the well-trodden path to collaboration with the special counsel. *

All roads lead directly to Dick Cheney.

What crime, however, has been committed? New light has been shed on this mystery with the breaking news that Fitzgerald is homing in on the question at the heart of his investigation – who forged the Niger uranium documents, and how did they get passed off as reliable enough information to be referenced in the president 2003 State of the Union address?

Also, the article below explores the Italian connection to the forged Niger yellowcake documents, which were passed to the British as well as the Americans.

Something about all this smells and has for a long time. I sure hope Fitzgerald gets to the bottom of this, i.e. doctored intelligence, as opposed to simply a perjory or OofJ rap.

I know. One would think that getting to the bottom of who forged those documents and how they worked their way to the White House would be of some interest.

Once you have some real proof of a conspiricy by the administration, post it and I will be interested. Until then, what-ifs are just idle speculation. I can post hundreds of similar links on both sides of this arguement from D.U. and Free Republic. It is a waste of time unless there is real evidence.

here’s why I’m not excited about this entire investigation:

It won’t change things here at home, politically, that is.

Democrats are foolish to think that scandalizing the current administration out of office will leave the door open for them.

This administration **is **the Emperor Who Wore No Clothes. The powers that be in this Republican party have the money, the clout, the power to weave such lies all the loyalists see the world just as they want them to. Rove, Cheney convicted? I doubt it. Even if they were they’d be martyrs in the eyes of Bush supporters and they’ll rally behind the party even more next round. More money, more lies, more smear campaigns, more ballot problems.

The democrats in the meantime have done nothing to clean house, ignoring the price paid for standing firm on defending abortion rights, gay marriages and embryonic stem cell research.

Convictions will only make matters worse.

They won’t bring back the 2,000 soldiers who’ve already died. Nor will it bring those currently in Iraq and Afghanistan home any sooner. The U.S. and Britain are committed to remain until stability can be secured so that the government will not be overthrown by civil war the moment we leave. We do not control the timetable of our withdrawal, the insurgency does.

If the misconceptions of the Islamic extremists about U.S. intentions on their soil was enough to get them to plan and execute 9/11 then how do you think they, and Iraq’s neighbors, are going to respond when we provide them proof that Bush sought to overthrough the Hussein regime before 9/11? They will be justified in seeking revenge toward the U.S. everywhere, especially for the loss of Iraqi civilian lives.

No. I see nothing to be excited about in this path our nation is taking. Justice or Payback? This is about payback and I want no part of it even though my tax money is funding this whole debaucle - the war, the investigation, the oil industry, the deep pockets of the slime behind all these lies. I’m sick of it all.

I pray we all snap out of it and vote independent next round. Neither the democrats nor the republicans seek to serve the will of the people, they seek only to serve their own interests and those of the power groups who funded their campaigns.
