Gracepoole, you’re the second person since the redesign I’ve seen say they are leaving the site permanently over some point of disgust (alleged white supremacists for you; LGBT emoticons for the other), yet come back and jump right back into thread bickering without any reference to the obvious incongruity. I find that…strange.

What changed since your goodbye announcement 11 days ago? Was the other site not satisfactory? I have not been there as I am mostly happy with the new site, but I note you said a lot of CAFers have gone there.

I was wondering the exact same thing. There is definitely some duplicity in play.

No, he did not say he did not want to discuss chastity. What he said was that he deliberately left that part out as he is not a moral theologian, and everyone knows the Catholic position. He wanted to do something different. Again, I do not particular care for this approach, but there is nothing wrong with it. I might well discuss something, say the benefits of Eucharistic Adoration, with someone who practices birth control, or is remarried without an annulment, and choose not to bring that up in a particular conversation, or book, in order to move forward in another area.

He also spoke of the need to re-formulate the phrase “intrinsically disordered”. As was pointed out by the theologian in the group, this phrase is from St. Thomas and has a theological meaning that is easily misunderstood.

I do not think the problem is with poor catechesis, this is a Jesuit, after all. The problem is with ignorance. Not everyone is steeped in theology, nor do they need to be. But everyone has an opinion, even it their catechism was rote memorization and they are ignorant of the theological “why” behind it.

I think your reply is mildly ad hominem in tone. I, for one, am happy to see Gracepoole contributing.

This is just a weird conversation to have publicly. Or to even WANT to have publicly.

That said, anytime I post here, you can count it as a moment of weakness. Or, I suppose, you can count it as reason to disregard my comments. I honestly have no preference.

I guess since your leaving and the reasons were quite public, I didn’t think the other side of the coin needed to be private or would be weird to ask about. I would have been interested to hear a little bit about this other site that several - including you - have promoted here as a better alternative to CAF, but so be it.

His book certainly had a lot to do with it. There are a few other factors as you may know. With some luck & help from the Holy Spirit he will change his stripes before it is too late for him.
