Ok thanks so much everyone. I think i can give a good confession now. Although i’m pretty ticked off because it took me so long to finally get a chance to go to confession and now i have to wait all over again.
Well, unless you were planning on making it your last as well, you’d better get used to it 😉

Many of us get caught out like that occasionally.

So i would confess that i self-abused myself?

Thankyou both of you for the help.

One more question: Can anyone give me a website or something with a step by step on how to confess. I think if i studied the process it would feel a bit better.

P.S. The priest was very nice to me too, it makes it feel even worse that i lied to him and made him give me a false absolution.
You would say something along the lines of bless me father for I have sinned. It has been two weeks since my last confession. In that time I committed the sin of self abuse 5 times, I stole$ 200.00 from my sister and I beat up my best friend etc etc. For these sins and all of the sins of my past life especially my sins against, insert whatever is applicable, I am truly sorry and ask forgivness and absolution from God and the Church.

Note. It is important that when you confess that you have the firm intention of not comitting the same sins again. You probably will, but you have to be firmly trying not to. Otherwise the confession is no good. ** It is your true intention that counts.**

I’ve sinned against the 2nd commandment, the 3rd commandment, the 4th commandment, the 6th commandment, the 7th commandment, the 8th commandment, the 9th commandment, and the 10th commandment.

I’ve sinned against them all in differant ways many times. I don’t know how many times i’ve sinned against them all, and i can’t even give a rough number. How would i confess this? Would the priest get angry that i’m using such general terms for all my sins? Becuase if i went through each one, i think we’d be there too long and the people behind me would be waiting for a while.

In your case, you just confess the sins you’ve committed since your last Confession.

In the OP’s case, he is a convert, and this was his First Confession since being baptized in a non-Catholic ecclesial community - non-Catholics don’t have Confession.

In your case, you did your First Confession at a young age, so you didn’t have much to confess at that time, and you’ve been going to Confession “as needed” ever since. 😉

But i have done all these sins since my last confession.
I haven’t gone to confession in a long time.

Welcome to the Club:thumbsup: 👍 Schedule an appointment for a general confession with the Priest. It can be done either anonymously or face to face. I wouldn’t advise saying things like I sinned 25 times against the 4th commanment. That doesn’t work. You need to say what you did. If you’re not sure of the number a good estimate will work. You might want to make a list and go from there. Good luck:)

Oh and don’t feel bad, no matter what you’ve done, the Priest has heard worse. Trust me, you are far from alone in this regard.

Wishing you and yours a most Mery Christmas and may the Peace of Christ Jesus be with you always.

Make a private appointment to get caught up, and then put it on your schedule to go once a week at the regular time on Saturdays.

I don’t think my parents will let me make an appointment. I talked them into making me one a while ago and that’s suppossed to last me until i turn 18.

Is it possible to tell the priest some of your sins one confession and then finish up later?

Your parents have nothing to do with it. You have hands - you pick up the phone, dial the phone number of the Church, and ask to speak with the priest. Tell him that you want to make an appointment for Confession.

Then, leaving enough time to get there for the appointment, walk or bike or take the bus or the train over to the Church, ring the bell, and say to the person who answers the door that you have an appointment with Father Soandso.

If you are old enough to commit mortal sin without involving your parents, then you are old enough to take responsibility for yourself to get to Confession without involving your parents. 😉

I also have a similar question. The confession i messed up was a general confession. And apparantly i’m not absolved of any of the sins i did confess. So that leaves me with a lot of sins. i don’t want to schedule another appointment with the priest so soon, so i don’t annoy him. But i think i’d rather go to a normal confession this time anyway. I think it would be more comfortable for me. Is BrooklynBoy’s question a yes or no?

EDIT

Only problem is, like BB, i have no idea how many times i have commited these sins. Except for omitting sins out of my confession. Should i just make up a high number? I don’t think it would feel right saying that i sinned against the 6th commandment 900000 times though.

You don’t get off that easy, Sorry. Since you intentionally left sins off you confession the whole confession is invalid. In effect by leaving those sins off intentionally, you lied. If you merely forgot that is a different story, but I remember you previous post:)

You cannot say I sinned againstthe 6th commandment. The 6th commandment covers a lot of teritory. You need to address the specific sin. Sorry about that too.

If you don’t kbnow tell the Priest I don’t know how many times. He may ask over 10 , over 50 etc. Give it your best shot and you’ll be all right.

I know you don’t want to admit certainthings, but you really can’t get out of it. There isn’t a lot of wiggle room

Sorry for that too.

You’d let a seven-year-old child bike or walk goodness knows how long through neighbourhoods neither they nor you are probably familiar with???

Times (and public crime in most neighbourhoods) have changed drastically since your own childhood, sad but true.

How about:

Bless me, Father, for I have sinned. I omitted some sins from my general Confession two weeks ago. The sins I confessed were stealing a hundred dollars from my sister, cheating on a test, and being disrespectful to my parents every day for the last 5 years. The sins I left out were looking at pornography twice a week for the last year and committing impure acts with myself every day for the last two years.

Since my last confession, I have used the Lord’s name in vain six times, looked at pornography twice and slapped my sister once.

I am sorry for these and all the sins of my past life.
Note that the sins are listed specifically, and the ones that are done so often you couldn’t count them are estimated by number of times in a given period. Also note that even if you had to say two or three times as much as this, it would only take a couple of minutes.

Does this help?

Betsy

Is it possible that since i was so nervous/embarassed, that the grave matter of not telling the priest all my sins was not a mortal sin?

Don’t worry so much about the mortal/venial distinction at the moment - confess whatever sins are bothering you. Certainly confess that you left sins out of the last confession.

Besides which, you not having given circumstances and background of most of the sins you’ve listed, so it’s impossible to tell. The best place for such questions is in confession itself.

And yes, you can say ‘I’ve committed the sin of gluttony’.
I know i must be annoying asking all these questions, but thanks for taking the time to answer them all.
Por nada - it isn’t called Catholic Answers for nothing! :tiphat:

Here i edited my post, how is that?
Sorry i meant are they a grave matter.

Thanks

BibleReader, take a look at the post just before your last one. You probably should tell the priest which sins you are reconfessing because that last confession was invalid, and which ones are new.

I’m sorry, nerves and embarrassment aren’t usually enough to lessen the severity of omitting mortal sins from your confession.

Gee, you sound like me when I was about 16 or so, I told you you are far from alone on this. You do have to say what the sins were that you omitted, but generally you’ve got the right idea. Examine your conscience, have that true contrition and firm purpose of amendment and get to it. You’re in the home stretch now and we’re cheering you on:thumbsup:
