Bad Movie to Avoid

It’s really well made, with the special effects, and very beautiful to look at. I wouldn’t change it in anyway. But at the same time it’s a difficult to watch because of length and in spots a bit lulling. It’s more like a piece of art than something entertaining.
I hate to admit this, but I have never seen it. 😊

Zardoz: I still don’t know what it’s about considering how abstract and weird it is plus the scene I remember most is where these people are testing a man and essentially go “Ah, so that’s what makes him aroused.” (No, it is not a porno, but that’s just an example of where it gets weird.)

The American: Boring, overly slow, and the most exciting parts you see will be a man walking on stairs.
Is Zardos that film with Sean Connery?

The Hangover.

+1 on Why Him? Was suggested to the Mrs by a friend. Hits the level of Meet the Fockers.

I know this might not be a popular choice here, but I have almost nothing positive to say about The Passion of the Christ.
No doubt. It is beyond me how anyone can watch that and say, “Wow…that was good. I really enjoyed it.”

Too long & drawn out. Some of the slow space scenes could have been shortened.
Nonsense. Every moment is purposeful and perfect. It isn’t supposed to be exciting. Star Wars ruined science fiction by turning it into pure adventure. 2001 is to science fiction what The Lord of the Rings is to fantasy.

The Passion of the Christ is not an easy movie to watch that is for sure, but I do think
it was a well made movie.

Certainly well made but like Schindler’s List it isn’t entertaining in the least which, to me anyways, is ultimately the purpose of a movie.

The Godfather, Part 3. :dts: Nope.

It doesn’t count. It’s terrible. There is no Part 3. :tsktsk:
Dang it! :ouch: And I just got the 3 disc set (admittedly, I’ve never seen III all the way through).
Still worth it for I & II. (And yes, I am aware of and have seen the re-cut of them as the 7+(?) hour *Godfather Saga *-- I think I kind of prefer them separately)

On the other hand, I know what you mean. *The Matrix *was such a good film, it is a shame they never made any sequels. I repeat: They never made any sequels!

My nomination for Bad Movie to Avoid?:

Gravity

All the talk-show hype leading up to it raved about this life-changing movie.
What a stinker!

Glad you brought that up. That was a stinker!! Almost as bad as Arrival.

I didn’t watch but small parts of these series - but the Twilight Sagas and 50 Shades
of Grey probably need to be included in with bad movies!

I recently “wasted” a morning reading this blog: Typeset In The Future 😃

I would argue that it’s not well made in the least. But again, to each their own. 🙂

This is a revival of a thread from a few years back and an idea from another current thread. I realize the topic is not at all objective, but it might be fun to get differing opinions. So, I guess I need to try to think of my idea of the a Bad Movie to be avoided and use your time with something more constructive. 🙂

I think I will start with: Jaws The Revenge.
The Man Who Saved the World (AKA “Turkish Star Wars”). The people who made that “movie” looked at the bad reviews for Plan Nine from Outer Space and took it as a challenge rather than as a warning.

Unlike a mere bad movie, which may fail on one or two levels (for instance, Plan Nine failed on the writing, acting and special effects, but at least displayed technical competence), Turkish Star Wars fails not only on every possible level, it also invents a few new levels to fail on.

For instance:
  1. The movie uses copious amounts of stolen footage from American Star Wars, then proceeds to use said stolen footage in the wrong aspect ratio, making everything squished.
  2. The film’s editing looked like it was by a 6-year-old who was on the 5th day of a week-long intensive Slurpee and Coco-Puffs bender. Every time a shot changes, the hero’s leitmotif (THE RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK MARCH!) restarts from the beginning. stuff is thrown in there just to be in there making the fight scenes nigh-impossible to follow.
  3. The special effects (well, the ones “made” bespoke for the film, as opposed to the stolen ILM special effects) are complete disasters. Lasers are just intentional scratches in the negative’s emulsion. A special effect showing our hero kicking a rock so hard it explodes was achieved by the expedient of having the actor KICK A LIVE GRENADE. The main villain’s death (by being karate-chopped in half) was shown by taking a shot of the actor and literally blacking out half the screen --it may have been a failed attempt at a matte, but still.
  4. The use of the stolen Star Wars footage follows no rhyme or reason. The Death Star is shown to be representing Earth, but it was established that Earth had somehow disintegrated due to I don’t give a tinker’s darn. Our heroes have to keep it from being destroyed, but as mentioned before, it was already established to have been destroyed. Ships like the Millennium Falcon and TIE Fighters are flying backwards in some shots. Our two heroes supposedly on a space fighter are very obviously sitting in folding chairs in front of a rear-projection screen showing random clips from Star Wars.
  5. The movie claims, quite literally, that Jesus was an alien secret agent who was aiding the people of Earth on behalf of a group called “The 13th Tribe” (knowing the track record for this movie, that’s probably a Battlestar Galactica reference)
  6. Did you know you could melt down a golden brain and golden wooden sword and get golden gauntlets from them? This movie’s nonsensical script would like you to believe that.🤷
  7. The movie seems (intentionally or unintentionally) to strike a “goofy and lighthearted” tone, what with the main disposable mooks of the main villain looking like teddy bears with detachable, explosive heads, but then there’s a pretty disturbing scene where a villain rather graphically strangles a 10-year-old child, out of nowhere.
This film is an antidote for intelligence. It makes Leonard Part 6 look like Citizen Kane. And worst of all… the makers inflicted a sequel to it upon the world a few years back.
