Bad Movie to Avoid

Did it have songs, like Frozen?
I don’t recall songs exactly, but I do recall being impressed with the beauty of the movie, the graphics, the music and being hopeful that it would be great. The first part of it was lovely to behold, rich and lush and a lot of beauty and bold colors, great scenery in an animated movie, and the story seemed fine. But, then as it progressed… It was still lovely to behold, but the character and the story was just not my cup of tea.

I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who might have an interest in seeing it and who might like it. But, following is a link to reviews which correspond with some of the reasons that I did not care for it.

I might not be popular in my opinion, but I dislike the film Grease with John Travolta and Olivia Newton John.

I don’t like the premise that Danny could be so obnoxious to Sandy, pretending he didn’t know her, and what he pulled at the dance, but SHE changes herself from regular wholesome girl to biker chick, just to please him.

I really couldn’t stand Grease when it was ‘all the rage’ in the late 1970’s. I found the vulgarity of it disturbing - I was a very strait-laced kid. My sister had the album as a vinyl record so I heard the songs countless times. In retrospect they’re not bad songs. But you’re not alone in not liking Grease!

Didn’t like Grease either as a movie, despite liking the old cars and fashions. A similar movie featuring people behaving badly (as romance) with an embarrassingly exploitative plot was Love Story.

Some good music, some nice picturesque scenes of snow falling in the Northeast, but way too much snarky competitive banter between the class warfare “lovers”.

On the other hand it was boring enough for a guy to make his own romantic moves at that movie, and save his date from the bad cinema in the meantime.
I’m studying! I really AM!
:nope: Good theme song. Sorry themes.

‘Love Story’ would not have scared me as a child. Ryan O’Neal’s cable-knit sweater just oozes comfort and security.

I think I need to re-read the title of my own thread. 😃 Brave is not such a bad movie that it should be totally avoided. I was disappointed in it, though, and actively disliked some aspects of it and found it very strange in some ways too, so overall I would not really choose to see it again. Some of it was nice and it was nice to see it with my kids. But, I guess it was not what I hoped it would be, especially for the $ at the theater. But, maybe watching on DVD would be okay. Also talking to my kids has softened my opinion, so maybe the years between then and now, my opinion has changed.

Is Zardos that film with Sean Connery?
Yes he is in it. And it is still bad.

Another movie to avoid: The Last Airbender. They didn’t even pronounce the characters’ names right! I mean, seriously. How hard would that have been?

Certainly well made but like Schindler’s List it isn’t entertaining in the least which, to me anyways, is ultimately the purpose of a movie.
Entertainment is one reason to watch a movie.
I just watched Schindler’s List last week and it is intense, heart breaking, and very well made. Not entertaining, but it’s an important film. People should know what happened in the Holocaust.
Some movies are to expose us to history or to inspire us or to reveal us to ourselves,

If I want entertainment I can watch Galaxy Quest, but I need to see heroes like the imperfect Schindler as well.

I finally saw *Grease *all the way through within the past year or two, streaming on Netflix. Didn’t care for it.

Prometheus and Alien Covenant.

I haven’t seen either of these, because although I love science fiction, I don’t waste time with dreck. However I respect Steven Graydanus’ opinion, and he gives them low grades. “Fans of the gooey and bloody and running and screaming will find more to enjoy in Alien: Covenant than they did in Prometheus.”
They are full of Biblical references, also references to Norse and Greek mythology, Nazis, and all perverted to a nihilistic conception of mankind’s creation. No thanks.

.
After the mess that was Prometheus I’m done with the Alien franchise.

“Swiss Army Man.” I thought it was supposed to be like “Weekend at Bernie’s” meets “Castaway” (stranded guy on a desert island befriends a dead guy played by Daniel Radcliffe from the ‘Harry Potter’ movies) but this one’s as close to unwatchable as it gets.

Still miles better than the endless stream of Marvel and DC characters being milked.

Silk Spectre wasn’t written well in it. Malin Akerman was little more than eye candy.

I agree with you on Rorschach, though. Jackie Earle Haley deserved an Oscar for it.

And isn’t it fitting that Jeffrey Dean Morgan went on to play Negan in the Walking Dead?

I’ll agree with those who mentioned The Good Dinosaur. It wasn’t horrible, good in spots, but it was easy to tell that it went through many rewrites. There’s a great movie buried in there if they did it right.

I love so bad they’re good movies, so I can’t hate on The Wicker Man. It does feature one of the greatest lines in cinema “What’s in the bag? A shark or something?”

Speaking of so bad they’re good, if anyone suggests you watch one of Neil Breen’s four feature films (Double Down, I Am Here… Now, Fateful Findings, or Pass Thru) you should assess whether you should ever talk to that person again 😉 Neil is a Las Vegas realtor and architect who decided to make movies as a way to feed his messiah complex. He is the star of each one and his character is the best in the world at something (greatest spy, greatest hacker, greatest author, all-powerful AI from the future, all-powerful alien). They are amazing in only a so bad it’s good way.

Finally, don’t be fooled if you find a movie called Gerry and you want to watch it because it stars Matt Damon and Casey Affleck (he of recent Oscar nomination fame). It’s about two guys who get lost in the desert. Sooooooo much nothing happens.

Love that expression, which we don’t have over here (given our unsurprising dearth of curates, and especially ones that lay eggs).

Wayyy back, when I was in the Navy, and movies were still on 35mm reels, we got one called ‘Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared Synn’ we watched the three reels out of order - and no-one noticed the difference! Baaaaaaaaaaaaaddddddddddddd!
I actually paid money to see that in a theatre. :doh2:
