I recline while reading scripture. Is that a sin because it means I am lazy? For some reason, I find it hard to stay in an upright position for long, so I recline while reading or praying/contemplating.
I would suggest this position:I recline while reading scripture. Is that a sin because it means I am lazy? For some reason, I find it hard to stay in an upright position for long, so I recline while reading or praying/contemplating.
LOL!!!Yes, bad posture was actually just left off the seven deadly list by a fraction. In fact, up until very recently, people were excommiunicated for sitting down.

I would say that slouching or getting too comfortable does lead one to the danger of falling asleep. It’s easier to stay awake and aware when one is upright.OP, I know this was a serious question, but this was too funny!
Now, my main reason for responding is that I sometimes do this and feel guilty about it, too, particularly when praying. I’ve never wondered if it was actually a sin, but I have wondered if it effects the efficacy of my prayers or devotions (in the case of studying Scriptute.) Scrupulosity ftw!
This is very true. Especially given the extra peaceful feeling that comes from praying/communing with God.I would say that slouching or getting too comfortable does lead one to the danger of falling asleep. It’s easier to stay awake and aware when one is upright.![]()
No, and if you persist in this kind of thinking, please seek out help from a spiritual director for scrupulosity.I recline while reading scripture. Is that a sin because it means I am lazy? Uh… I disagree. ALL sin should distress us. If we are children of God anything less then our full effort is unacceptable. The only sin you need to really worry about is denying the Holy Ghost. Other than that, you will sin the rest of your life while in the flesh. All of your sins that you have committed up to now and all of the sins in your future were washed away, once and for good almost 2000 years ago on the cross. Accepting the Lord and His gift of grace seals the deal for you.
Next, repent, read the Bible and have a steady, on-going relationship with Jesus. Bad posture or any sin? Don’t worry about them, but definitely confess your sins unto God.
Bad posture is not a sin.
It might be a little bit inadvisable if you tend to end up with a sore back because of it, but it’s hardly sinful.
As for running the risk of falling asleep if reading in a reclining position, then I can’t think of any better way to go to sleep than with God on my mind…![]()
Amen!Everyone knows kneeling is the correct posture for that kind of stuffI recline while reading scripture. Is that a sin because it means I am lazy? For some reason, I find it hard to stay in an upright position for long, so I recline while reading or praying/contemplating.
