Anyone who is coerced to perform work…is a slave.

I don’t believe a local, state or the federal government of the United States has the authority to enslave a person and force him to labor at work he does not want to do.

Say it isn’t so…😦

Bert & Ernie, Bevis & Butthead, Martin & Lewis, Abbot & Costello, Cisco & Poncho, Cheech & Chong, Cagney & Lacy…even Laurel & Hardy did “bed scenes” together.

Next it will be Roy Rodgers & Trigger… wait…lets not go down that road.
Sorry Zolt - it is so and if puppets can be gay well anybody can.

I see the ‘Gay Cake’ case in Northern Ireland as a battle of rights.

As I’m sure you know, lawyers often bring test cases to court. The reason is above all things they are interested in legal certainty and they want to see how the court will decide.

This case was taken by the Equality Commission. The battle of rights as identified by the Human Rights Act are the right not to suffer discrimination v the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion.

I’m sure you also know a hierarchy of rights exists, and this case will determine which right will prevail over the other.

One political party here is attempting to have a ‘conscience clause’ passed but they have little support as such a clause would be fraught with difficulty, in that it may be used to facilitate religious discrimination. A determined effort has been made in Northern Ireland to stamp out religious discrimination and this clause is seen by many to be a return to the ‘bad old days.’

I was recently sacked from my job and the case could end up in court as there is evidence it was not because I could not or would not do my job, but because I was a Catholic. I have submitted the case to a lawyer and currently awaiting a response.

demanding that everyone celebrate it.
This is the part that burns me up about it.

No thank you, I’m not going to be happy for you. I’ve had enough of your abuse and you may have it back.

Sorry about the job, Murph. I really thought that the anti-Catholic sentiment in Northern Ireland was minimal.

The mad thing is Zolt is from peace broke out it has got worse. It is true peace in terms of an end to violence has held, but the peace process or perhaps I should say ceasefire is distinct from the political.

When I started my job I was so shocked that young people who aren’t even old enough to remember the end to violence are so sectarian. People who lived through it have an excuse and they are often more moderate. It makes me think there really is no hope as bitterness is being bred into the young to keep the whole thing going.

Sorry for above I don’t mean to hijack the thread. I think the gay community here has a real chip on their shoulder because they have been easy targets for so long. Perhaps that is why they are such an effective pressure group. They now enjoy the protection of the law and it appears the easy targets are now Polish families as they are being attacked for no reason.

Turning to the gay cake case, I can understand how it came about but it is bizarre. I don’t think the law should be used to force a family run business to go against their conscience. Christian families who run what we call Guest Houses (don’t know what you call them in the US) have been challenged on the ground not of refusing them accommodation, but refusing a double room to a same sex couple and the Guest House is also the family home and they have kids.

Never worry about the job Zolt. It was a call center, I hated it and I have passed the case to a lawyer and it may end up in court. Nice little hand shake for me if it does.😉

I also believe when one door closes another slams in your face. Joke.😛
Seriously, I am a down at the minute but I have applied for volunteer work and I think I will start soon. The volunteer work is work I LOVE. It involves fighting for the underdog.😉

Just a pity I don’t get paid but here’s hoping it opens a door, and I firmly believe the glass is always half full. 🙂
