Ban on Brit monarch marry a Catholic lifted

The Catholic Herald reports that in the near future a British monarch or heir will be permitted to marry a Catholic. The repeal ends a 300 plus year ban on such a marriage.
What is still not permitted is to have any heir be raised Catholic. The sticking point is that a British monarch, king or queen, will continue to act as the head of the Anglican Community.
My remarks. Permitting this ruling may lead to more changes favorable to the Catholic Church in the UK. What will likely happen next is that the monarchy will cede its status as head of the Anglican Community to the Archbishop of Canterbury. The idea is to separate church from state.
Yet the UK has a rich history of loyalty to the Catholic Church. One may say that the prayers of St. Thomas More, SOG Henry Cardinal Manning and Bl. Cardinal Newman have been answered! 🙂

Very good!! For a “Tory” like me, the mainstream Tory party is too moderate!

I am fascinated to see how it pans out though. I don’t think Cameron appreciates what he’s saying. A Catholic marriage is ONLY regarded as a marriage if that person agrees, unequivocably, to bring up their children in the Catholic faith.

But a faithful catholic would never agree to NOT bring up their child a Catholic, heir to the throne or not.

So effectively the law still prohibits ACTUAL Catholics who believe in their faith and follow its precepts from marrying in to the Royal Family. "Yes, you can marry someone as long as you agree to not actually marrying them in the eyes of your church and not bringing your children up in the faith…) Not exactly a resounding victory for British Catholics, is it?
