I am banning myself from the board for awhile. I find I am writing posts and erasing them as well as editing posts I have put up. Instead of Christ’s Love shining through, my anger at people who claim to believe in the Bible alone is intensifying. Maybe I am not cut out for online apologetics. Catholics show Bible verse after Bible verse showing Tradition. Not one verse that can show Scripture alone has been posted. Yes it is profitable, but not alone. Anything in the NT refering to Scripture meant the OT.

Anyway, I needed somewhere to go hit my head against the wall for awhile.:banghead: I’ll see you all tomorrow after my self imposed banning and some extra prayer time.:o

Its good to see that the Holy Spirit is working in your life. Sometimes we need to refocus our thoughts and its not worth getting angry about. Gods Spirit is a spirit of love and if we cant walk in it ,then we need to revalue what we are doing. 👍

Do yourself a favor…STOP READING those types of posts. I dont waste my time on threads where protestants are trying convince ME of TRUTH. Just respond to the other great topics posted here and let those folks read, allow it to sink in or reject it…its their issue to deal with.

My general rule is, I never join in on a thread that’s already 10 posts or more, unless for very good reason. There are many, many knowledgable Catholics on this board and I make a conscious effort to realize that I don’t have to sit here defending every tenet of the faith against every Protestant who thinks I’m wrong. If I feel I can add something to an argument, I will, but I try to avoid the heated discussions, because more often than not, nothing useful will come from them, for either side.

A couple things Maria … we never know who read our posts, they could have had the effect intended but you may never know. If we are looking for some concrete knowledge we have made a difference here you will be disappointed. Just keep posting with the knowledge the Lord has blessed you. The second and more important point is to make sure you give thanks for the faith you do have. In reading many of these threads I can see what a gift we, as Catholics have been given. I believe that many times when we work with in conjunction with the Holy Spirit we do not always know the good we have done.

Peace always.

Thanks everyone for the great advice. I did some serious reflection today.

I need to act as if the person I post to is sitting right across from me. In that way, it will be easier for me to reflect His love as I should to be a good witness. If others can’t see the Holy Spirit’s in my words, why should they listen to those words?

I need to abandon threads where people are presented to truth but refuse to acknowledge the point. I will continue to pray for more people like Bengal_Fan who in the end can say, I see where you get your teachings, I just don’t agree with the interpretation.

I also will remember the 10 posts idea, it is a good one. I need to remember that I am definitely not the most knowledgable person here and can simply allow others to witness and learn from them.

And finally, I do need to remember that my job may just be a seed planter. I may never see the seed grow or even know in who it was planted. I can do nothing but God can do anything. He can take my imperfect words and thoughts and turn them into something great for His glory.

Thank you all for your advice. I will try to remember and follow it.
God Bless
Maria

Maria, you never know the impact your witness has on those who lurk at these websites. Perhaps you may feel that you’re banging your head against a wall, when you may be saying exactly what some reader needs to “hear.”

I have witnessed four online conversions of people who were rabidly anti-Catholic when discussions (arguments!) started. One (from Oregon) became a Catholic with her husband and two sons two years ago at Easter; another (in London) came into the Church this past Easter, and the other two – a husband and wife – are now in RCIA but are already “confirmed” Catholics because of what they’ve learned about the Church in discussion groups. One of them has (had) a screen name of “foreverbaptist” :). God had other plans. The seeds are planted – that’s our part. The rest is up to the Holy Spirit.

I write for the lurkers. I can’t let erroneous statements about the Church and what we believe stand, if I have anything to contribute. Someone may believe it. It’s up to every one of us to stand up for our Faith, to light a candle in the darkness. So take courage. Fight the good fight. Time outs are fine – we all need them – but please don’t go away.

God bless and Mary keep, Jay

I’ve always found it amusing when Protestants log on…and try to tell me what various verses within the Bible mean ~ 1600 years after my Church (the Roman Catholic Church) composed it…my Church…our Church…is the Mother of the Bible. We know the true interpretation behind the verses…our Church was founded by Christ upon Peter.

I’ve started doing this, too, though I usually look for even fewer posts. Lots of posts too often indicates flame wars or at the least people who proselytize instead of communicate. I’m in a couple of long threads but usually because I got in when they were young.

Maria,

When did Jesus ever get tired of spreading His verbal Gospel? He never used the KJV Bible nor did He ever instruct anyone to write it?:whacky: Did He keep going? Jesus never gave us a commandment we could not keep! Pray, pray, pray and then go on!

When I get depressed like you, I just think to myself, What Would Jesus Do? WWJD, its powerfull and works.👍

It may surprise you but I think just as many RC’s need to hear you as do the protestants?:bigyikes: You have a voice so spread it among us. Don’t let a few like me depress you, just continue to “Shine your Light”! The world is a darker place without you?

You may also be able to help some Catholic not fall into a trap of lies and leave Christs Church too. I wish you were there for me in 1979 when I fell for the lies.😦

Trying to make sure no one leaves the Catholic church because of the lies spread about it is what keeps me going in my 6th Grade CCD classes I teach. I had not considered my catholic brothers and sisters whose faith was weak here! There are so many half truths out there it is no wonder those who are not strong fall. Welcome back and I’ll pray that someday God will grant you the knowledge of helping to shore up the Faith of at least one doubting Catholic.😃
God Bless

You’re a wise woman, Maria. I have the same struggle to become more humble.

Bingo!! You hit the nail right on the head, you little mustard seed, you!

Protestants can post to me until the cows come home, but I won’t be joining them anytime soon, they left the ship, and not the other way around.
I have been on other Christian sites and the amount of time and energy they expend on running down the Catholic Church is unbelievable.
I have never heard a priest at Mass or any-other time running down other Churches, and the converts can see it for themselves.
Their only religion is I’m afraid is kicking the Catholic Church in the teeth, far better if they spent their time in prayer, I recommend the Rosary 😃

Protestants simply forget that they are the ones who broke away from the ‘true vine’. Now about 600 years later, I am sure some have forgotten why they broke off, or have gotten used to the demonination that has been produced.

Maria, hang in there! We will be praying for you. Try to enjoy the vacation before you go back to CCD classes.
The next time you meet up with a Protestant who tries to ‘win you over’, give them a piece of literature (of in this case online, a website, and ask them, where does this person (a Catholic) gets it wrong. Put them in the defensive.

Go with God!

As a convert from a sola scriptura church, it took some time to fully understand the unscriptural nature of the Prostestant beliefs. There was a period of time that it ran me up the wall when I was pitched verse-slinging doctrine I discovered to be false. I hope you can reach the peace I found when I learned that they mean well, but are misguided.

Pray for the Protestants each time you feel frustrated.

Apologetics isn’t a call for everyone but it can be trying for everyone.

Take time out and pray and know that sola scritura Christians need evangelization no matter how misguided they are about His Church.

I seem to do a bit of head banging myself. "Protest"ants seem to
be so sure of what they believe. I make an effort to read some of
their books and websites so we can bridge the gap between us.
I have heard it said that the Cathlic Church provides many, not one, way to grace. I try to keep in mind the strengths of the Catholic Church and its teachings and gently mention and remind our brothers in Christ what they are missing.

Keep the Faith and God Bless,

chuck

one of my favorite verses as a protestant was 2 tim 2:15 study to show thyself aproved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth. The church knows all the answers. All the years I was a baptist I NEVER me a catholic that could even quote a verse to me much less defend the completely biblical doctrines they believed. So bless you for taking the challenge and caring enough to engage the uninformed or maybe arrogant. Jesus did it for us

Remeber we are sent by Jesus to spread the Good News to all. 👍
We need to at least defend our beliefs and Church! :knight2:
