I received a holy spirit at pentacostal event of a Korean prebysterian church, but I regret receiving it because receiving this holy spirit is not life changing. I was not born again christian because I can produce spiritual fruits from him. This holy spirit is a source of cursing of my life. Therefore I don’t need a holy spirit. I have to perform some exorcism, but this is holy spirit not evil spirit from Satan, but his attitude toward me bears only evil mind. I wonder once a living holy spirit dwells inside my body, isn’t it possible for me to receive an another holy spirit? This current holy spirit bears only hatredness about me

In this life, and in this world, we are surrounded by spirits. There are occult spirits that wait and watch for an opportunity to influence, harass, oppress, or potentially possess us. However, as Christians, we are commanded to discern and test the spirits. The fruits of the Holy Spirit are charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control and chastity. If you have produced these fruits, then it may actually be the Holy Spirit that you received.

Are you baptized?

po18guy is 100% correct. To that I would just like to clarify a VERY important point for you.

There are not “Holy SpiritS” there is only one Holy Spirit, the third person in the Trinity that is God, the creator of the universe.

If something is calling itself *A *“holy spirit” (as in one of many), you can be certain it is not God.
It sounds as if you have invited a demon into yourself. (Impossible to discern over the internet). po18guy asked the right question: have you been Baptized? If you have, then you already had the Holy Spirit within you. “Baptism in the Holy Spirit” is just a neat way of saying those gifts are released for the ministry of God.

I pray that you may find someone to better direct you in these matters.

People should not be calling it Baptism in the Holy Spirit. It is NOT a baptism.
Although baptism in the Holy Spirit is NOT sacramental Baptism, baptism in the Holy Spirit is the “Full immersion in the Love between the Father and the Son” as its name implies. It is meant to empower us, to help us all live “Fully Alive” and give glory to God as Saint Irenaeus says: “The glory of God is man fully alive”.

Read about Pope Leo XIII or Saint Philip Romolo Neri who didn’t ask to be baptized in the Holy Spirit, he wasn’t prayed over to receive it but experienced it as the Holy Spirit filled his heart as a fire. This empowered him to become an Italian priest who founded the Congregation of the Oratory. God performed many miracles through him.

Refilling with the Holy Spirit which we need over and over again helps us do works like interceding and explaning Scriptures’ meaning to our fellows.

It isn’t necessary to speak in tongues or display any particular manifestation on particular occasions.

The Holy Spirit gifts (of which there are many overlapping lists in the Old and New Testaments) don’t only come to us in groups.

Fewer people have had them throughout Church history but that God wills them to be more general in the Church was presaged by Pope Leo.

We are called to trade with our gifts by building up fellow Christians.

The genuine thing doesn’t make a difference to “worship styles” if they were decent enough, nor does it lead to any increase in sentimentality. In fact it ought to lead to a marked decrease in sentimentality.

Hi,

I just wanted to ask couple things on this same topic. My husband is from India and has visited Potta Divine Retreat since he was a kid. He has a gift of tongue, which means that most of the time when praying or attending mass his tongue starts making clapping noise without him talking or anything it starts from nowhere.

Last weekend he persuaded me a protestant convert to catholicism and a deep lover of tradition (gregorian singing etc) to a meeting place of Catholic charismatic renewal. We went and in the middle of praising something happened to me. I heard and felt my heart starting to say with each beat ‘Jesus’, it still continues and goes away, and starts at prayer time fading away and starting again.

In the end there was blessing by a sister who is said to have gift of heeling people by the Holy Spirit.
When she started to move towards me praying over people, I started to hear again the continues calling of Jesus’ name by my every heartbeat.
As soon as she started praying over me, I saw a light and everything around me fell away. Few moments later I was collecting myself from the floor.

As the Opus Dei cooperator kind of catholic, I am deeply moved to the core. Yet I am also feeling ashamed that it happened to me. I do not understand what was going on. Maybe some one else can help me there? Anyone with experience with charismatic catholic renewal? I have been even going through google but I seem to catch all the articles saying that it is not HolySpirit, but the ‘‘other company’’ doing it (need an exorcism??). On the other hand the experience was itself not negative. I would say rather positive, but then my old thoughts are nagging me. I used to call these people ‘‘the Halleluja league’’. 😃

Thanks for reading my vent, and any (name removed by moderator)ut would be highly appreciated. 🙂

The Church is very supportive and approving of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal - all the Popes since its beginning have been supportive of it.

The Preacher to the last two Popes as well as Pope Francis (does his retreats) is very involved in it and writes books on it etc.

As with anything of course discernment is important regarding particular questions or gifts- but that is part of Christian life.
