KC I was reffering to the demoniination I was brought up and dunked in. Every word I said is true. It is the self-named “church of Christ” and they have not a single seminary in their denomination, nary a one. Anyone in that sect who want’s to “praych” (that is exactly how they say it) can “praych” as long as they can find a congregation to hire them. They have no seminaries and no educational requirements. I know I was there for years. They preach strongly agianst any difference between clergy and laity, and anyone who wants to do anything like dunking their daughter. Like I said the dad jumped up out of his theater seat and dunked her right on the spot. The only thing the praychers can do that no-one else can do is to preside at weddings and that is from the law and not their doctrine. That’s really interesting, since I can think of at least two dozen fundamentalist seminaries off the top of my head. ,
And yet, some of the church’s greatest theologians are from the South.
That’s an outright lie. We take church history very seriously. I know this to be a fact because I teach classes on church history. It’s a required segment of any seminary degree.
Again, this is an outright lie.
Actually, most fundamental preachers not only preach (and, by the way, we don’t talk like that. Please feel free to join us in the 21st century), but some of the best theologians in the church today are fundamentalists.
I think you mean immersion, Professor Einstein.
Again, you’re lying.
Our pastors must be ordained and not every lay member can do anything. For instance, lay members are not elders or deacons and cannot fulfil their roles.
I just can’t imagine the Hell that would be raised if a Protestant came here and lied about Catholicism like this.
They hate and do not use the word Reverend, and write complaining letters to the editor when someone calls one of their praychers “Reverend” in obituaries. They also call a church a church “building” for their churches are not special or dedicated. They are the ultimate in Protestantism.
But they are not alone and they are not the only church to have no educational requirements. Many “bible colleges” do exist in fundamental land as you well know, many of those bible colleges are not accredited by any recognised bodies as well. I am mostly aware of the Southern Baptists. They do have several seminaries, some of them famous and of course Baylor University. But the Southern Baptists do not require individual congregations to hire seminary graduates, and quite a few small rural congregations do not. In the Southern Baptist church each church is seperate congregationally ruled. They can assosiate with each other for missionary purposes, but again that is optional. I even personally know of Baptist congregations who associate with more than one convention.
You may belong to a less conservative Baptist congregation say the American Baptist churches, or maybe the National Baptist Convention and they do vary widely.
I do find it unusual that your Baptist church recites creeds in worship, BTW there are only two creeds to exist the apostles creed and the Nicene creed. You may have creeds and confessions confused.
I know that one of the Baptist distinctives is the opposition to creeds, becuase creeds conflict with another Baptist distinctive “soul freedom” where any Baptist can read the bible on his or her own free from human creeds and decide their beliefs for themself, the ultimate application of sola scriptura.
I highly resent your calling me a liar, I was telling the absolute truth from my own experience!
