Why was Jesus Baptized, and where did John the Baptist get the authority?
Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist because in order to offer Himself as a sacrifice He needed to be ordained a priest. The first step in ordination was being washed by a priest (John was a priest and prophet) Moses a priest and prophet Ordained Aaron and sons starting with washing them. Jesus’ ordination was completed in His last week of life, starting with His anointing by Mary of Bethany with the sacred oil.
I was also as an example for us, but that was not a requirement of the law.
Grace and peace,
Bruce

Very good points! 👍 Even many if not most of our Protestant brethren can agree with them. However, I would add that although it was a completely different Baptism from the final Trinitarian and Sacramental One, as Pope Benedict states in his books “Jesus of Nazareth” the Sacrament was thus instituted. Jesus by His Baptism, has Sanctified the Waters of Baptism, and made them regenerative. So there were many levels or as Jesus told John, so that all righteousness might be fulfilled. 🙂
