Congratulations!
I presume the reason you are doing this is because the Spirit Of God has witnessed to your Spirit that you have already been born again.

God Bless!!

Hate to break it to you, but if it’s a Trinitarian baptism you are being baptized into the Catholic Church! :D:thumbsup:

God Bless, and congratulations,

RyanL
hehe, yup.

welcome singin beauty!

Just so that you do not get confused. No one is born again or saved by baptism. People will throw verses at you and say that proves it. The first verse is John 3:5 and says “born of water”
The other is Titus 3:5 which says " the washing of regeneration" Neither one means baptism.
I want you to see that Heb.4:12 says "for the word of God is alive and active. Read now Ephesians 5;25-26. Notice how God Sanctifys and cleanses his church (individual people) “by the washing of the water of the Word”. It is the Word of God that is alive and active that changes a heart so that they become born again. Titus 3:5 also says he saved us , not the works that we have done.

God Bless

One can not glue texts together like they were a child’s craft project to come up with something that neither says independently. This is what is called proof-texting.

I know it probably means little to you, but not a soul interpreted these verses the way you do, until about 1600 years after Christ. That means something.

Paul rejected water baptism as being necessary for those in the Body, and that was about 2000 years ago.
1 Corinthians 1:14-17 I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 lest anyone should say that I had baptized in my own name. 16 Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas. Besides, I do not know whether I baptized any other. 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.
Ask your pastor if he can say what Paul says here in 1 Cor 1:17. If he does not affirm that he was not sent to baptize, but to preach the gospel, then find a better pastor who patterns his ministry and teaching after Paul’s.

Also, the world will not know of your bring water baptized. Just the small congregation that is present in the church where you are being baptized at that time. And after your baptism, there will still even be some in the congregation who did not attend your baptism who will be unaware of your having attempted to obtain righteousness through this ordinance that is part of the Mosaic Law (Num 8:7; 19:13,18-21; Ezek 36:25).

My hubby is military so I have lived everywhere. One of the most beautiful places that I have ever had the pleasure of living in was Spokane, Washington.
Not to go off topic, but I just had to mention that I lived in Spokane for five years, and I quite agree that it is a beautiful place. 🙂 When I’m done in the military myself, I hope to return to that area.

God Bless!

Congratulations SB, it’s wonderful to know that you will have the gift of the Holy Spirit reside in you!

Did you know that the Catholic Church teaches that upon baptism we are permamently marked as children of God? We become a new creature in God. (see CCC 1265-1266)
Baptism not only purifies from all sins, but also makes the neophyte “a new creature”, an adopted son of God, who has become a “partaker of the divine nature,” (2 Cor 5:17; 2 Pet 1:4; cf. Gal 4-5-7) member of Christ and co-heir with him, (1 Cor 6:15, 12:27; Rom 8:17), and a temple of the Holy Spirit. (1 Cor 6:19)

The Most Holy Trinity gives the baptized sanctifying grace, the grace of justification:
-enabling them to believe in God, to hope in him, and to love him through the theological virtues;
  • giving them power to live and act under the prompting of the Holy Spirit through the gifts of the Holy Spirit;
  • allowing them to grow in goodness through the moral virtues.
Thus the whole organism of the Christian’s supernatural life has its roots in Baptism.
The gifts of these Theological Virtues, Faith, Hope and Charity (Love) are given to you freely at the time of your baptism. However they will do nothing for you if you do not accept them from God and use them for the good of the Body of Christ. He does not force you to have faith, to hope or to love him or others. Following him after your baptism will be enhanced through the reception of these gifts you have been given.

You are given these gifts so that you might better retain the incredible gift of justification which you are to receive. It is yours to either keep or lose. By following Christ you retain it. If you choose to turn your back on him, as evidenced in your actions and your thoughts, you will need to repent to return to Christ who is always loving you and desiring that you turn to God.

The CCC states (1267):
Baptism makes us members of the Body of Christ: “Therefore … we are members of one another.”(Eph 4:25) Baptism incorporates us into the Church. From the Baptismal fonts is born the one People of God of the New Covenant, which transends all natural or human limits of nations, cultures, races and sexes: “For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body” (1 Cor 12:13)
Congratulations on your decision to be baptized. This is truly a wonderful thing you are doing!

God Bless,

CARose

Thank you all for your positive thoughts and well wishes! 🙂 I went to the baptism class today and am one step closer. I am a little nervous as I know that there is something at work against me during this time. Please keep me in your thoughts. I lost my job on Friday and really don’t know what I am going to do. I am trying to keep focused on God and have a feeling that this is happening now BECAUSE of my impending baptism. Satan wants me to turn my attention elsewhere but I am refusing to do so. So pray that I keep strong and know that God is taking care of EVERYTHING. I know that He rewards those who follow and obey so I am praying that I keep in step with Him during this time and allow Him to carry me when the time comes. Trusting Him is something that I am learning to do and I feel a real change this time. I am so blessed to have you ALL congratulating me and keeping me in your thoughts. Thank you so much!

My favorite verse and also my LIFE verse is…

Numbers 23:19
God is not a man, that he should lie.
He is not a human, that he should change his mind.
Has he ever spoken and failed to act?
Has he ever promised and not carried it through?

Trust in God always because He will never lie or fake you out and He will never leave you. This is my lesson that I am learning! 🙂

Sorry to hear about the loss of your job – I will keep you in my prayers over this.

I think you’re right on about being under attack right before this critical juncture in your life. I’ve noted this happening at key times in my own life. I can’t help being struck by the thought, as someone has alluded, that the Church has always taught that baptism is not a simple statement of faith that doesn’t actually do anything to you supernaturally, but it is in fact a person’s entry into the family of God where our sins are washed away and we become new creations in Christ. Satan would not want to discourage you from making a mere statement–he is trying to disrupt your new birth through water and the Spirit (Jn 3:5). As St. Peter says, resist him and he will flee you. And welcome to the family! May you continue to grow in your faith until you are able to embrace the whole truth of his Church.

Blessings,
fidelis

This is true BUT I do have about 3 or 4 people coming to see me doing this that don’t go to church and I am hoping that this, while affirming my faith in God and changing me inwardly, will be a testiment to those who are attending to turn to God or at least plant a seed and that could be making Satan nervous. 🙂

Your stepping forward as an adult to be baptized is a huge testament. :yup:

I pray you will open your mind to the idea that your baptism is truly a rebirth. It is a miracle from God, made* visable* to us.

Either way, I will pray that you will stay focused on Christ through this time of trouble.

God Bless,
Maria

I am glad that everyone else here doesn’t voice their disappointment. By throwing verses at me and basically telling me that I am going about it all wrong is not the way to get me to convert as most have found on this board when it comes to me. I am sorry you are disappointed but I was not looking for someone to tell me my beliefs are wrong just looking to share with others my excitement in my upcoming baptism… So thanx for your (name removed by moderator)ut but I really was not asking for it. 🙂
Bro. Rich is only responding to St. Pauls exhortation. 1 Tim 4.2 “Preach the word : be instant in season, out of season : reprove, entreat, rebuke in all patience and doctrine”.
Congrtulations nonetheless. Don’t forget to continue to ask, seek and knock.
So, so sorry about your job loss.

Paul rejects baptism? I don’t think so. It’s more like you reject scripture. 1 Cor 1.17 is hyperbole. He just finished listing the people he did baptize and he was correcting the Corinthians because they thought they were being baptized into the minsters who baptized them rather than into Christ. You thumb your nose at scripture when you wrench verses out of context to affirm your own distorted beliefs. Read John 10.34-36 and know that scripture cannot be broken, then read Matthew 28.19-20 and obey.

Thank you Pope Blackstone. 1Peter 3.21: “Whereunto baptism being of the like form, now SAVETH YOU also: not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the examination of a good conscience towards God by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.”
You shouldn’t be so selective. Try accepting all of scripture. 2 Tim 3.16: “All scripture, inspired of God, is profitable to teach, to reprove, to correct, to instruct in justice.” Notice Paul says “all scripture”, not just the verses you choose to believe or disbelieve. 2 Tim 4.3, 4…

TK,

My brother in Christ, please don’t make me ask again. I am all for correction in its proper season; see my other 1000+ posts. If you would like to discuss Baptism as a Sacrament, start a new thread and link to it. This thread is for SingingBeauty. Let’s keep focus.
