I’ve often thought that it would be a riot for a couple of sharply-dressed Catholics to go door-to-door. When the homeowners found out that they were Catholics and not JW’s or Mormons, I think the comedic value would be priceless!

“You’re CATHOLICS? Catholics go door-to-door?”

To which I might answer, “You bet! Now how’s about we drink a pint of this Guinness I brought and we can talk about the power of the rosary?”

I maintain that this could be an extremely effective method of evangelization, (though you’d have to keep the free Guiness to a minimum).
I’d want to hear more for free Guiness…despite me already knowing…

Many members of The Legion of Mary do just that; in my former diocese (San Jose, CA) The Legion was very active. I haven’t heard of them in my new diocese (Charlotte, NC), though.

legionofmary.org/d_to_d.htm (A lovely article originally appearing in THIS ROCK; it relates the door-to-door work of The Legion of Mary.

hmmm…I’m not quite sure I like how the moderator ended this thread…because he thought it was turning into a defense of Catholicism…I don’t understand why they can question and we’re not allowed to defend ourselves
Agree. However, I must say, I don’t even consider Montanaman’s post as overtly defending Catholism. He was mearly stating that many are mislead regarding catholic teaching and particularly the concept that somehow Catholics are not christians, something that that also blows me away, as Jesus is mentioned as Lord and Savior in the Nicean Creed we catholics recite at Mass every Sunday and the CChurch is the oldest Christian church in history founded by our Lord himself.

Montanaman did not even give any biblical reference to Catholism.

It seems that the bare though of a Catholic that can make the connection with of bibical defense of the Church makes him very nervous…and thus had to shut it down. I understand, thats his livelyhood he probably feels he had to do it otherwise he might be convinced himself. That probably what he is most afraid of. Thats why he allows completely unchristian topics to continue. He is simply terrified of the Truth.

The bible interestingly speaks of many like him.

I suppose they just bloch out Matthew 16: 16-19 as well as 1 Timothy 3:15 and pretend that Jesus never spoke of His Church. 😉

I also suppose they don’t know anything about history as The Church was essentially the lone Christian Church throughout the world for 1500 years. That statement alone would probably cause the moderator of those boards to ban you for life from his boards.

Peace be with you!

I just registered on that site, so I’ll be posting shortly. I only read part of the first page, and aside from the obvious irritation I felt at the evangelicals’ misconceptions, I was even more irritated at the poster who said he was Eastern Orthodox. He claimed that the Orthodox Church does not believe in transubstantiation!!! I think some of our Orthodox members should help to set these people straight as well.

edit: nevermind. I just went back to that site (and read some more posts in this thread) and saw that evidently we are not allowed to defend our faith against their attacks. No wonder they don’t know anything… Pretty cheap if you ask me.

Rand

Rand,

Since the moderator at that site is highly anti-Catholic the lone way you will get your message across it by using the subject section only, as whatever you post will most likely be censored.

Thus, why don’t you post as a subject something like “Catholics have been prohibiited to speak- ask…WHY?”(try to trim the words to make it fit). It will most likely be closed immediatly , however, if you are given the oportunity to post just explain that an open discussion should be fair as long as all involved behave, but to censor anything catholic is a defeatist policy as it denies an open dialogue. That if they believe their truths to be fullproof they should stand against those of lost “unbelievers” and posibliy convert the a “lost” Catholic thru such open dialogue.

Good luck! 👍

Black Knight Busted! No offensive posts, but “coffee breaked”. Those guys don’t wanna discuss, they just wanna feed their same ole same ole. I wondered if they’d do that.

Is their truth so fragile that it cannot handle the opposing opinions when brought with evidence?

One thing that I will say for CAF…if you have a divergent opinion you are free to discuss it so long as you’re respectful of the church and the Catholics on here.

In the end, the Catholic Church has been answering those same ole same ole for almost 500 years…as well as every heresy that came down the pike prior to the “reformation”. They can hide behind their moderators and policies, but they can’t change the truth…and the Catholic Church is not goin’ anywhere.

Hey, welcome to the club!

I just checked in over there to see what was going on. Someone had started a thread about friends who had “declared themselves married,” and therefore, since God had “covenanted them” before sexual activity, there was no stain of fornication. Granted, the poster’s question was about the need for witnesses at a wedding, but still, that this didn’t immediately horrify them was astonishing. I got shivers watching them stumble through it.

I also find it fascinating/horrifying to see how they refer to events “in the Bible,” rather than “back then.” Surely it’s a mental slip most of the time, but I have a feeling that quite often, they don’t see anything ever happening in the “real” world, or the “unrecorded Christian theological world.”

I can only take so much of that theological swamp before I flee back to the clean, gleaming marble of cogent arguments and dispassionate consideration of real questions…

I’ve lost hope after reading the most recent posts here . . . but who knows. Anyway, I posted a thread called “A Modest Proposal” under the “God in Action” board. It will probably be knocked off, but maybe you folks could check it out? And if it lasts, then you could join in the discussion, if you want (that’s a veiled way of saying HELP!)

😃

Peace be with you!

I thought it was funny that they allowed the Orthodox member to explain their beliefs, but not Catholics (thus more evidence that they really don’t know as much about Christianity as they think they do). Of course, what the Orthodox member was “explaining” was not even close to what their Church teaches…in fact, what he said was something along the lines of “the Orthodox Church is closer to Protestant beliefs than Catholic beliefs”…when the opposite is obviously true. I mean, he even thought that the Orthodox Church doesn’t believe in transubstantiation! From everything I’ve read, they just don’t use the name but the belief is exactly the same. I suppose this person would be a “cafeteria Orthodox”.😉

Going with that, I found this site to be interesting. bringyou.to/apologetics/num31.htm this is an Anglican minister talking about Eastern Orthodoxy. However, his explanation of the Anglican belief on the Eucharist differs from the explanation I was given by an Episcopal priest in a class I took. This priest told me that the Anglican/Episcopal Church has no official belief on the Real Presence or lack thereof.

Peace be with you!

I’m going to try to answer questions over there, if I’m allowed to.

Absalom! - I posted in your thread…my user name over there is Melkor. Hopefully the moderators will allow a civil discussion or at least a question and answer thread.

In Christ,

I tried posting a new thread of the topic of who *Melchizedek *was, etc. I posted this article: chnetwork.org/journals/eucharist/eucharist_9.htmNot only did it get deleted right away, but I was immediately put into a coffee break. They are not interested in learning about truth, but I think it’s important that as many people as possible come over and try and help.

For those of you there, I think you have been very respectful and polite, as we should be, and it’s a shame that they are not interested in hearing truth. Why would they not want to listen to others, if what they say might in fact be true? Are the satisfied knowing they may be following the wrong faith? Really makes you wonder.

Peace be with you!

Well, the “Modest Proposal” thread was just deleted while I was writing a post. Keep in mind that this was after a moderator came into the thread and said that questions would be OK as long as it didn’t turn into an argument. Every person in that thread was being civil and polite, even the Protestants asking the questions. They got scared when a couple of Catholics actually knew what they were talking about.
These people (the ones that run the site; some of the members I talked to are good people) are not concerned at all with learning anything. They are only concerned with congradulating each other on knowing everything about God and the Bible, and assuring each other that they have the correct interpretation of Scripture…and that those darn Catholics are all wrong!

In Christ,
Rand

Well, I decided to sign up over there and found a thread discussing what is wrong with the modern-day church. I replied that IMHO, it is lack of authority and too many denominations.

I am a convert to Catholicism by way of Lutheran, Evangelical, Pentacostal, Fundamentalist, and finally home to Roman Catholic. (my cradle-Catholic dh has sure been patient with me!!)

Peace –
Magdalisa

Well, I signed up and spread a little Catholic love that will probably be edited out by morning! 😃

I have to say, they talk about evangilizing to people, but we’re more the ones that do it because over here we’re open to all faiths while they are strongly Protestant and only want clearly Protestant opinions.

They also seem a little shocked by words like  sex  I thought it would be funny if they came to our MB and found whole topics about masturbation and JP2’s “Theology of the Body”. And yet everyone seems to think Catholics are afraid of sex.

Well, even if they don’t want our posts, they can certainly have our prayers!

Peace be with you!

Well, I just checked back on the site, and evidently I’ve been banned after making…what was it…one or two posts? And what did my posts say? They charitably informed them that I would be happy to answer any questions anyone had and that I had every intention of remaining polite and civil on their site. And I was banned for it. Some Christians they are…

In Christ,
Rand

Don’t worry, everyone. There’s a support group meeting at my place on Sunday afternoons. Coffee and pastries will be provided.

I’m sure a few of them are waking up to the reality that things aren’t as sanitary as they thought. A few (really, a FEW) will probably begin to question their assumptions about Catholicism, and certainly a few of them will be miffed at how quickly the dicta…er, moderators squelched free speech. (And if I hear them slandering the Church about suppressing the Bible or some such nonsense, I’m going to sue).

Who knows. We might even get a few of them over here where the air is clearer and you can actually say what you want.

I wanted to read the post that you all had written. Their board is not as easy to navigate as this one. One their opening page is a list of forum sections under which one have you all posted?

Most were in “God in Action,” though I also posted a few in the Guy’s Forum and “Anything Goes.” I think most of this stuff was deleted, though. The  MASTURBATION  thread is still there, but the last poster, a woman, basically said there’s nothing wrong with it. Fertile ground, (pun intended) for debate there.

Somebody named “I leatherman” just posted there with the question “Is this board open to Catholics.” It took me too long to figure it out, but the answer to that is NO. Not if you want to in any way defend your faith. The rules there are simple:

If you want to do anything but congratulate Protestants on being Protestant, that board isn’t for you.

They’re not open to challenges and new ideas, and who can blame them? They’ve got a fifteen-headed Frankenstein hydra of theology they’re trying to call “the Church,” but it’s obvious they have enough trouble finding the absolute truth even among Bible-based Christians. I can also not fault them for reacting toward us that way. How often is it that a platoon of Catholics stormed a Protestant bastion? Aside from skirmishes in Northern Ireland, I’d say it’s been a few centuries…

(Note to pedants: I am not ACTUALLY comparing forum “wars” with violent struggles between the faiths).

Oh, and where were all you guys when I was calling for help at the Protest Warrior forum? I’m on a break there right now. I was getting burned out trying to play tennis against 50 people with no attention span. Luckily a few solid Catholics stopped by to take up the slack, but I could really have used some help!!!

No worries, though. There will always be battles in the future…

bibleforums.org/forum/showthread.php?t=37341

"Proselytizing, Bible/Christian bashing, and rude conduct are expressly forbidden. "

"This board is for an exploration of the Christian Protestant faith, and not the faith of other religions. "

There you have it, feel free to use the thread I started, if you like.
Enjoy.

Ah, thwarted! They closed my thread and I’m no longer allowed to post. Apparently, Catholics are not allowed to post over there. Anyway, I think that is so sad. I told my wife last night that, for me, at least, it wasn’t about proving myself right or wrong. Those moderators are keeping people from learning the truth. It took everything I had in the thread I started not to call them facists. They apparently closed the thread while I was writing a reply to the guy who said he saw some things in the Bible which supported Catholic practice, but he disagreed with them  . Anyway, thanks to Melkor for helping out.

Another day; another time.
