They’ve made it quite clear that Catholics are not Christians. Therefore, their rendering of the word “Christian” is only used to mean “Protestant”.

LOL! I know! There was even an Orthodox member there that said the Orthodox Church is closer to Protestantism than Catholicism and agrees with basically all Protestant teachings…he then went on to deny Orthodox belief in the Real Presence! I laughed out loud!!!

You are so correct! I’ve seen this over and over–not just at that site but other boards. They are almost fascinated by Orthodox–all the while instantly repelled by the words Roman Catholic.

Thank you for teaching. This message board stuff is waaaay more frustrating than it is fulfilling.
Keep up the good work with the ones already in the fold—a lot of those kinds of people are “former Catholics” i.e. from Catholic families who never went to Mass and knew zip about their faith. Later in life the person gets drawn into being an evangelical where he/she is a prize trophy catch—“Former Catholic Now Evangelical” who will tell you all they now “know” about the RCC.

Has anyone read Pope B XVI’s address to Catechists and Religion Teachers in December 2000? It’s entitled “The New Evangelization.” If possible, I would like to talk about “how” to evangelize or about Catholic writings regarding evangelization. I believe this could be more fun and productive, which is the reason I joined catholic answers forums.

Sounds interesting. I think as far as “Catholic writings regarding evangelization” goes, reading The Catholic Controversies" would be great. St. Francis de Sales allegedly converted over 30,000 Calvinists (or was it Cathars?) in a relatively short time span. From a 21st century perspective, that sounds like nonsense to me. 30k?!? But then I remember that back then people actually believed in things, and persuasive arguments had to be deferred to.

Well, IMHO, I think it is the lack of authority and the fact that there are so many different Christian denominations…which one is right? who do we follow? does anyone really believe that Jesus will return for a bride (His Church) that is divided and at odds with herself?

Well, IMHO, I think it is the lack of authority and the fact that there are so many different Christian denominations…which one is right? who do we follow? does anyone really believe that Jesus will return for a bride (His Church) that is divided and at odds with herself?

You are absolutely right, thank you for suggesting it!! I just know what a struggle I personally had with my conversion to RCC and the incredible peace I have now that I am here. I feel sorry that others can’t or won’t understand the beauty of the fullness of the faith.

It’s not easy and it’s not too fruitful. Maybe it’s better to just invite them to a more open environment–another message board that accepts all denominations. I wouldn’t invite them here–they’d get overwhelmed. They’d feel like traitors to their cause coming to a Catholic board. Anybody know another board to invite them to? Or—Maybe post links to articles or PM those who seem to have an open mind.
What do you guys think?

The devil has been working so hard to seperate denominations from one another. But the simple truth is that all true Christians love and praise the same loving God! Other details about our faith may differ greatly, but we should all be united under God’s love!

The sad part is that there was a thread by a guy who was kind of searching around looking for a religion and I popped in and said “Hey, Over here!!!” They cut out all my links and everywhere I said the word Catholic!
If they’re not even going to use 'em like I said 'em, then I want my two cents back! Anybody know a good lawyer? One who will go to court over two cents? Me neither.

To be perfectly honest…I feel that if they have the guts to want to talk about these so-called failings of the Catholic Church, they know very well where we are. Going into that forum seems more and more like a waste of time.
I’ve been there and been tossed and I’m proud of the fact that I & my fellow Catholics seem to have been charitable and inoffensive in a hostile environment and that after most all of us have endured much less charity both here on our own forums and there on theirs.
Not to feed our egos or anything, but here’s to all of you who care enough to try to offer good answers to folks who have issues with those of us who don’t believe as they do.
Know the faith…and share it with those the Holy Spirit brings to learn about it.
