And linking a couple of threads…that site was created and is maintained by the same Bill Jackson who posts so rubustly in the Baptist.org forums. What goes around…well, you get the picture…

God bless
Bill Jackson? Trashing the Church is his whole life.

And thanks Kirk. I’m flattered.

They don’t want to address misconceptions? Um. Feet. Dust. Kick. Outta there!

I signed up with the sole purpose of posting Mercygate’s paragraph, but I noticed that every thread YOU were in, Montanaman, got closed because they want NO ONE defending the Catholic faith. I thought your posts were the soul of reason, by the way. I think the lesson here is that the way to avoiding dealing with the truth is to ban any discussion of it! They don’t seem willing to allow us to clear up any misconceptions of the Church’s teachings.
“Soul of reason?” Thanks man, that’s really humbling, believe it or not.

So far the thread in the Guy’s Forum about masturbation (or M@st**bat&^n, as they call it) hasn’t been closed. There are actually a couple of them taking a position we would think of as satirical. “Because the Bible is silent on the issue of masturbation, doing so WITHOUT LUSTING is okay.”

I truly pity these people–not in a similar condescending way–but I see how lost they are. (I’m sure an atheist would get a kick out of the way both our encampments say that about each other). I want to scream at them: IT’S ALL RIGHT HERE! YOU DON’T HAVE TO HAVE AMBIGUITY ANYMORE! YOU DON’T HAVE TO INGORE HISTORY OVER HERE!

Instead, I’ll just play nicey-nice. 🙂

:rotfl: Um, if one isn’t lusting, why precisely IS one do it?

That is ludicrous, oh boy. Keep playing nicey-nice, and maybe some over there will see the light and hopefully you don’t get banned, which I don’t think you will.

I’m on a coffee break there.

That angelfire site is ridiculous. Did anyone read that “pizza or cookie” thing? How utterly dumb can someone get. I can’t stand it when people who are completely ignorant of what Catholics really believe prey on people that don’t know and propagate false assumptions about what the church is.

Grrrrrrrrr

I like how they assume that Catholics don’t know anything about the bible and are not “scripturally educated”. Riiiiiiiiight. Oh, I don’t know why I read this stuff it just makes me mad.

I would love to try my hand at that board, mentioning that my Church was the only one formed by the second person of the Trinity, that there was only one universal Christian Church from 33AD to some sixteen hundred years later.

I believe that the protestants only exist because they wanted to do something or didn’t want to do something the Church teaches. OSAS makes no sense, unless we could simply become perfect and never sin again. Not having any way to reconcile your sins, except simply asking God to forgive them? Shoot, that’s easy. It’s way easier than a regular examination of conscience, then organizing them by kind and number and confessing them to a Priest, followed by performing your penance. It would just be too hard for them.
And the Eucharist. I get to have the Precious Body and Blood of Christ coursing through my veins, all the time. He is presence is always with me. They don’t even think were Christians.

I’m gonna watch that thread, and I hope some of the more knowlegeable, charitable posters from this forum make it over there. I’m just too Chicken.
How right you are about that. Being a Baptist is EASY. First, they don’t make you go to church, it’s not even a sin not to. There’s not mortal or veinal sin, there’s just sin. They don’t have confession, communion is once a month, and they play it off as not a big deal.

hmmm…I’m not quite sure I like how the moderator ended this thread…because he thought it was turning into a defense of Catholicism…I don’t understand why they can question and we’re not allowed to defend ourselves

Where I live, the Baptists churches usually have communion once a year–Easter. At least that’s what the baptists here in Northwest Arkansas tell me…

It is a really good question. The more I think about it the more good a question it proves to be. There must be some legitimate fear involved in this phenomenon. It would seem that they are confident in their views, and that if they truly are confident, there should be no problem with Catholic defenses, because their view, superior in terms of truth (they believe), could not be refuted. If they are against this, it presents the impression that those in charge know that the Catholic view is truth and therefore irrefutable, yet are nevertheless against it. Yet I don’t believe they truly feel Catholicism is correct. I can see no answer to this very large question.

Kind of reminds me of the Chief Priests in Mt. 28:13 who believed but refused to accept: "Tell people, `His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ "

It’s because “it’s a place where Protestants go to discuss the PROTESTANT faith.”

I understand why they want to avoid distractions–they have a lot of work to do reconciling their divisions with the Bible…

What is sad about this Bill Jackson kid he is from my hometown of Louisville, Ky.

Louisville is a very Catholic city for a city in the Mid-South. I would say it is a 50/50 Protestant/ Catholic split. Maybe this is why this guy thinks it is necessary. He thinks there are too many Catholics here, I don’t know.

Have you ever thought it was funny how guys like this feel it so necessary to do something about Catholics, like we are a threat or something. While we could care less about being threatened by Protestants.

Speak for yourself uofl19!

I’m extremely threatened by these outrageous predations because they are so successful. Some denominations claim that a majority of their members are former Catholics. The reason I’m disturbed is that they pull people away from the Church with their outrageous distortions of the faith – and the worst part is Catholics actually believe this rot – which is a deep and serious problem for the Church.

Of course, the other side of it is surely that it is much easier to “accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior” than to exercise your God-given brain in developing a seasoned, informed faith which can engage the adult “personal relationship with Jesus Christ” that a mature, knowledgeable, Catholic has. It certainly avoids all that inconvenient, sometimes embarrassing, and uncomfortable stuff about divorce, confession, and birth control . . .

On certain matters it is NECESSARY to deny the Church and to denigrate and her “doctrines of men” in order to justify the rejection of the harder points of living in full acceptance of the Gospel mandate.

Amen. Preach it.

I’m on there and I pick my posts with care, though to be frank, I see little hope. I noticed that some of the very early posts were considerate and quite kind and some even granted us status as Christians, (as if we need it…) though that was answered PDQ with misinformation and rhetorical statements that show just how very little some of them understand what they are talking about.

In spite of their debate and discussion forums, the board is really nothing more than a platform for passing on oral traditions, (like the idea that Catholics are not Christians and that our beliefs are unBiblical).

In other words… it’s not about truth… it’s about the perpetuation of the same old same old. In the end…as I’ve said before…If they are really interested in what we really believe then they know where to find us. * heavy Irish sigh*
Pax vobiscum,

I find your assesment WAY off! Most converts from Catholicism to true saving born again Faith in Jesus are very zealous toward spiritual things. More Bible study, more fellowship and brotherly love toward fellow believers, deep love for the Savior of our souls. I have never heard of someone converting cause it was easier! Certainly not the reason I left the Church! I left the Church cause there was no life in it from what i could see. After 27 years in the church and 12 years of catholic school I dont recall many examples where I saw anyone live out their faith. Most seemed to be more embarrased about it than living it out. Most Protestant Christians have never met a Catholic who could expound on the Catholic Faith more than, “just try to be a good person”. Why would they need to know the fine details of Catholicism? Peter Kreeft comments that 3/4 of his students don’t know how to get to heaven! This is at a Catholic university! Your knee jerk conclusion that protestants are being malicious in trying to reach Catholics in name only is totally unfounded! Is it better that they go to Hell rather than be reached with the Good News from a protestant?

These statements fall flat for the same reason… most n-Cs are not “witnesses” or “soul winners” and most that I know are no better than the Catholics you describe.

So far as n-Cs evangelizing CINOs, my opinion is that it is better for them to remain within the church and for catholics to help them reach that conversion and relationship with God than to abandon then to errant winds of doctrines and “Christianity Lite”.

So what? I went to a Catholic university. I know many more who were not Catholic than who were.

montanaman: 👍 That’s how you KNOW you’re doing a good job!! 😃 Right there that shows one the true compassion of the Protestants who frequent that site. “We don’t want smart Catholics here; we want to be able to pick on them and feel big!! That is all” – bibleforums

My sister left the Faith to marry a protestant minister’s son (both are now in the process of coming back in! Praise the Lord!), but she said something funny to me during one of our talks a while back, she said, “…it’s intimidating talking to you and dad, as you guys know a lot more than I do…” She used the word ‘know,’ we know a lot more than her, but she didn’t listen about the Faith and she left…(but thanks be to God she is on her way back in, and bringing the minister’s son with her!)

I didn’t have much of a point, but I thought it was kinda funny none the less. 😉

I’ll bet you don’t even realize how offensive that comment is, do you?
I have never heard of someone converting cause it was easier!
Certainly you’re not going to find people admitting to converting out of convenience and ease!
Your knee jerk conclusion that protestants are being malicious in trying to reach Catholics in name only is totally unfounded!
Then why do they walk away from Catholics who know their faith and can defend it, but continue to “witness to” Catholics who are not well-grounded in an understanding of what the Church teaches?
Is it better that they go to Hell rather than be reached with the Good News from a protestant?
Obviously, it’s better if Catholics come to a better understanding of their faith and recieve the benefits of the Sacraments that Christ intended for His people.
