You can do personal prayer or written ones- it’s up to you :).

I’m sure someone will come by with a good child’s prayer (how old is he again?) for you to teach him if you want to as well.
 
He’s 12. He is already doing the sign of the cross on this person after each prayer,
Are you suppose to do the Hail Marys when your not in church.

Im sorry, I know some of my questions are dum… But I sure appreicate you helping me.

Hi Bren,

You don’t have to do the ‘Hail Mary’ or the Rosary… but they are a great devotional tool. The Rosary is mainly used for the ‘mysteries’ which focus on various points in Christ’s life and His Passion. If you’re not comfortable saying it yet, you don’t have to say it. The rosary was mainly a devotional tool which developed in Ireland in the 12th century as a devotional tool used by peasants who couldn’t recite the psalms the monks did because they were illiterate. They used beads to keep track of the prayers and developed it into what it is today. Beads had been used for various devotions and prayers since the beginning of the church (1st century), though. Check rosary-center.org/howto.htm. It has instructions on how to pray the rosary. The Joyful Mysteries, Luminous Mysteries, Sorrowful Mysteries and the Glorious Mysteries are all parts of the Rosary.

We Catholics have hundreds of prayers you just have to take your pick.

Here is a nice revision of the standard “Now I lay me down to sleep”

We do Hail Mary’s with our kids all the time, we also do the Our Father and many others, it is pretty much your preference and which brings you closer to God.

I just completed RCIA and was accepted into the Catholic Church just last Easter. You have a great journey ahead.

Let me say a couple of things about what you face:

There are a LOT of things that you do not yet understand. It seems like ALL Catholics know ALL the details of when to stand, sit, kneel, make the sign of the cross, say this or that… it can seem VERY confusing!

Just remember that there are a lot more converts out there than you realize and that ALL of them had to learn these details at some point. Go ahead and attend mass. Watch what’s going on and ask questions after. “Why do you do that” or “why does this happen” are very common questions that most people will be very glad to answer for you.

However, just like any other church, there are a few people that aren’t as cooperative. Catholics certainly don’t have a patent on that! If you can’t find help from a particular person, move on to the next! We’re used to answering questions and you CAN find the answers you are seeking.

There’s one other bit I’d like to add. Try to avoid being intimidated. Again, many have been in the position of coming from the Baptists over to a situation where there is more personal involvement in the individual service. There is stuff that you will learn as time goes by.

I have been reading over what everyone has said and I have really enjoyed talking to you all. I don’t know who is still around cause this post was way over a year ago.
1.There are still several questions I have. But I dont want to offend anyone with the questions.
Do Catholics have things like the Baptist do? The Baptist have revivals to gather people together to listen to preachers and to pray and to get them to join a church. Does that Catholic have any thing like that.
Ive never seen Catholics try and get people to come to their church.
  1. When you go to a Baptist church you can go up and get forgiven for your sins,But do you have to be a Catholic already to ask the priest to forgive you for your sins?
    I’m wanting to start the RICA classes next month. Do I have to wait until its over to ask for forgiveness?
Are any of the people I talked to a year ago still on the forum?
