The History Channel had an interesting program about this event a few days ago. It might have been called The Christmas Truce or something similar. I found it very moving, and really drove home the human loss of war.

This is a beautiful and moving story and I think it was once made into a movie. This article is OK but does not do the real story justice. This part surprsied me:
Pacifists and other romanticists will cite this occurrence as evidence of the folly and dispensability of war. Certainly they are right that many wars are foolish and unnecessary, but they must ignore both man’s depravity and the demands of justice to denounce all war. There will always be Hitlers, and they must always be stopped.
I can forgive the cheap shot at “pacifists” and “romantics” (as if there is something WRONG with them!) I cannot forgive the chronologically misplaced mention of Hitler in a story about the first world war. I guess he needed to invoke Hitler to balance out his insult?

Opps. My mistake. I thought this thread had something to do with me.
