Has anyone else read this book by Fr. Larry Richards? “Be a Man! Becoming the Man that God Created You to Be”

I LOVED this book! I love Fr. Larry’s style and that comes out in this book. I feel that this book is what every man should read. It is time for men to be men and take a stand for your wife, your family, for your faith! This book is so inspiring and I would love to hear stories from other men (or women) that have read it and what your thoughts are about it?

It is a great book that I HIGHLY recommend to anyone out there.

I thought about getting this for my husband. He isn’t Catholic - isn’t even baptised but he does go to Church and occasionally to Mass with me.

Not sure what the reception would be for a wife to give her husband a book called ‘Be a Man!’ 😃

What was so great about it? Do you think it would be a good gift?

I love the title! I can see though where one would be intimidated by it, but that is precisely what Fr. Larry is going for with the title. It is based on what King David said to his son Solomon before he was “to go the way of all the earth” as he looked at him and said “Take courage and be a man.” 1 Kings 2:2

For me, I love Fr. Larry’s style. He is very direct and many times “in your face” with what he is telling you, but that is what I like. Others do not. Especially in this book he gets to the heart of who we are called to be as men of God. We are called to be the spiritual leaders of our family. To be the one that says to the devil “you have to go through ME to get to my wife and kids.” Men have become lazy, especially spriritually. I know that this is true for me, I fell into that rut, but this book was what I needed to get myself going in the right direction.

The book is very practical. At the end of each chapter there are things to do and there are questions to answer. It makes it more of a hands on book with things that are tangible to do. I think that his common sense approach and willing to be “real” in the book gives it the feel that he is talking to you and challenging you to be a better husband, father, to be a better man.

So I do think that it is a good idea as a gift. We are called to plant the seeds, right?

My husband just got this book. He hasn’t started it yet as he is reading another book right now, but it’s next! He went to hear Father Larry speak last year and then went to him for confession. He said it was awesome! One of the best confessions he has ever had. I like Father Larry’s direct approach! 👍

I bought it for my sons and husband, but don’t think any of them have read it yet. Fr Larry is my DS2’s godfather, so I gave it to DS2 first, thinking it would be more special. Of course I gave it to him for this Christmas and on Christmas eve he told me he is no longer a believer in God, much less Catholic. Maybe if he reads it it will touch him and lead him back.

😦 I’m sorry!
