Pope Francis has said that there is a risk of Christians being too open to the world and “widening the conscience so much that everything fits in there.”
During a Mass in the chapel of the Domus Sanctae Marthae yesterday, Pope Francis said that being too much of the world and too ambiguous is seen in Christians who “cannot and do not know how to give witness to Jesus Christ.” He cautioned against the faithful telling themselves: “yes we are Christians but this is OK.”
Jesus “became man and died out of obedience,” the Pope said, and “this is identity and there lies witness.”

In other words, don’t be so open-minded that your brains fall out.

In other words, *don’t judge others *is different than making a judgement between right and wrong.

In other words, dont show too much mercy that even sin can be justified away and be called good. 😊

Some have wondered if Pope Francis is too ambiguous (e.g., C. Burke).

Haha. I used to work in a used record store and anybody that collects records know that those that work in record stores are the biggest music snobs you’ll find (High Fidelity was pretty accurate). Anyway, my boss always used to say: “An open mind is like an open sewer”.

i feel allot of conciences are very lax. in my parish here in england my two children were told by a catechist that the only two mortal sins that would stop a person receiving Holy Communion are adultery and murder. my children refused to go to Communion becausethey wilfully missed Mass.i feel we take Gods mercy too much for granted . i feel sin is hardly mentioned anymore at least not in my parish. is it because priests are worried theyll offend us by even mentioning the word SIN yes God is merciful but he does get offended and is Just

Amazing the poor catechesis we see sometimes. Your post was well said and I welcome you to the forums!~

Hope you learn a lot, share a lot and enjoy your time here.

Is it me, or is Pope Francis starting to be a little more direct in preaching? Not as many open ended quotes or percieved open ended quotes anyway that the media can misconstrue…try as they might…

In a good way I mean.

I have noticved the same trend. 🙂 The pope probably got wind of all the “new orthodoxy” catholics who have been running around boards like this trying to say (in HIS name!) that the church was fallible before, despite what the church itself says that they are justified in insisting that Pope francis can do the impossible and teach a new orthodoxy repudiating the “old” one, that he can go ahead and act as though the church has been wrong for 2,000 years. All the while asuming this self-righteous air that they are the “good” catholics for being ready to discard the truth on the latest passing wind. I think Pope Francis assumed too much doctrinal and spiritual formation before, assuming catholics would take for granted that the church has never taught and will never teach error or ever self-contradict but he is now realizing this is a dangerous assumption to make these days and is therefore speaking much more clearly. I think this is much better for everyone. 🙂
