lest than he have more than enough of you, and hate you.

…I think this goes to common sense… in the vein of “do not overstay your welcome or you may not be welcomed to stay over.”

Conversely, some people do get along as the old proverbial famously… I’d say, some people click and become thick as thieves (even better than blood relations); clearly, when such deep connections are made, that Proverbs warning need not apply!

Angel is correct. These are not commandments, but guidelines for social interaction. There are numerous passages in Sirach (Ecclesiasticus) regarding relationships with neighbors.

Reminds me of another old saying… “Fish and guests smell after three days.”

There is indeed a need to consider the privacy of those around you. Maybe this was written in exasperation after a too frequent visitor…
