Beatification for Pope John Paul II next year?

cwnews.com/news/viewstory.cfm?recnum=58565

Krakow, May. 21, 2008 (CWNews.com) - A Polish newspaper has predicted that the beatification of Pope John Paul II (bio - news) will take place next year.

Zycie Warszawy speculates that the late Pontiff could be beatified on April 2, the anniversary of his death, or on October 16, 2009, the anniversary of his election to the papacy.

Earlier this month another Polish newspaer, Dziennik, had said that the beatification could take place on October 16 of this year, the 30th anniversary of John Paul’s election. That prediction appeared unrealistic, since the cause for beatification of the late Pontiff still has several hurdles to clear and organizers will want ample time to prepare for the ceremony.

The new prediction by Zycie Warszawy matches a story produced by SIR, the news agency of the Italian bishops’ conference, suggesting that Pope John Paul will be beatified within the next year.

Doesn’t there need to be a miracle in order for him to be beatified? None have been reported that I know of.

This was in today’s communication from Rome:

zenit.org/article-22644?l=english
He explained: “Once the ‘positio’ is turned into the congregation over which I have the honor of presiding, there are various stages: The study from the historians, the study from the theologians, the study afterward of the doctors regarding the existence of a presumed miracle, the examination of the cardinals – so predictions [about a final date] can’t be made.”
