Romania recovered well from communism.
I am dating a woman who grew up in Romania and still has family and friends there with whom she communicates regularly. Although there is obviously much more political and religious freedom than under Communism, it is hardly thriving. There are severe problems there.

Merely replacing communism in a country is not a panacea. We’ve already seen that with Russia.

I’ve always loved Romania since reading Dracula by Bram Stoker . It’s a great country, but they sure could use Vlad Dracula to reclaim their country and Europe for Christians.

The history knows the interesting personalities who are certainly considered as a holy men, but I think the present generation hardly would like to get in touch with those good-natured rulers, especially when you remember the severity of justice and executions in those epochs. In a democracy, you can criticize the government and in that society you would face cruel punishment even for the attempt to criticize the ruler.

That is why I believe that the European Union is a unique invention of our time.
The countries which are lagging behind for decades from Western countries have the unique opportunity and ability to dynamically change and to integrate.
The fight against corruption and social evils is a painful process but it is a unique historical opportunity to transform society and to integratе into the alliance of developed European countries.
It is a pity that while young people receive tremendous benefits in personal self-development and prosperity abroad, it is very hard for the elderly people to adapt to the capitalist way of life.
But the obvious fact is that the country is changing.
Most likely starting from the next year the Romanians will travel to the United States without visas.
And about dating a woman, I think that family values are rooted in the Romanian society, so it should be a good choice.:)👍

As well as in Ukraine, the traditional celebration of Easter in Romania is particularly beautiful.
‘‘Easter in Maramures.’’

Very many ill people have been miraculously cured after having taken earth or flowers from Father Cleopa’s tomb (which they carefully preserved at home) or even oil from the icon lamp at his tomb cross, which they applied on the suffering parts of their body. The miracle of the healings has spread out fast throughout the country and the monks at Sihăstria have to permanently add a layer of earth on the tomb, to replace the amount that is taken for healing.

gabrielsmessage.wordpress.com/saints-and-elders/elder-cleopa/

ELDER Cleopa Ilie (1912 to December 2, 1998) was a Romanian spiritual father, who acquired enormous affection and respect throughout the country and beyond.

Archimandrite and abbot of the Sihastria Monastery, he came from a peasant family of ten children. He joined the hermitage at the age of 17, together with his brother; and after he had served in the army, was anointed as a monk in 1937. He rapidly found himself given responsibilities, being ordained priest in 1945, and becoming Abbot shortly after.

Like many others in Eastern Europe, he was regarded with suspicion by the Communists, and forced into hiding. Remaining abbot and spiritual father to his community, he was repeatedly compelled to retire to the remote woodland to evade capture and interrogation. Yet throughout, he cheerfully dispensed advice to an unending stream of monks and laymen, with an air of irascibility belied by his expressive and joyful, affectionate eyes.

Elder Cleopa’s sufferings and spiritual disciplines – towards the end of his life, he would pray for as many as fifteen hours of the day, experiencing many mysteries – fashioned of him a man of magnetic charisma, courage, and spiritual wisdom.

European Union is a godless enterprise which is trying to destroy the traditional Christian values formerly treasured is its member states. Nothing good will come out of it.

I think that everyone who has been in the Romanian province is very surprised by religiosity of the people.
In some parts of Romania the church on Sunday so crowded that people stand during the service outside, because there is not enough space inside.
As it is known the Protestants in Romania are the people of strict disciplinary rules.
Very dedicated and conservative Protestantism in some regions is so influential that the number of Protestants is more than the number of Orthodox. And this spiritual phenomenon occurs in many rural areas.
Communist atheism was not able to destroy the faith.
Do you think the European Union will be able to destroy the faith?
And what is the political alternative to people today?
Is not the Christian mission to fight that the Will of the Father would be on earth as it is in heaven?
Faith can not be destroyed, because the human being is a religious being.
But to remain in poverty and to wallow in corruption is not a choice.
Eurostandards are pushing the Eastern Europeans to roll up their sleeves and to change for the better, to change beyond recognition.

Not the EU, but affluence and secularism have proved to be very effective destroying any faith the world over.
Unlike in the USA and Europe where Catholic churches are being torn down or destroyed, the Russian Orthodox Church has experienced a lot of growth with many new churches being built in Russia today.

Look how brilliantly Greece’s situation improved after joining the EU

Indeed. I had the privilege of becoming friends with a devout Russian Orthodox whose parents where card carrying communists. The reason why he was a Christian was the courageous faith of living martyrs at the margins and bottom of the Soviet society.

I noticed the Turks, The neighbors of Bulgarians and Greeks, The Turks do not blame anyone, they just silently work, and work hard, and atchieve a lot. Ottoman approach to the work ethic has formulated a very hard-working people.
Even now, the voices in Turkey are heard that the country outside the EU will be richer, but pro-European youth is pro-EU.
Тhere are problems that need to be seen in the context of each country.
Sometimes elites are an alien element to the country. The elites can live like a state within a state and can betray the national interests of their people…
