In Romanian Bukovina there are monasteries from the time of Stefan cel Mare, but close to the border on Ukrainian side there is a monastery where the abbot is a Romanian(Ukrainian-Romanian) monk. The Holy Ascension Monastery in Bancheny.
The Church of the monastery is one of the largest churches in Eastern Europe.
The monastery has a farm, lot of land, its own dairy products (including:mozzarella, goat’s milk) shop, free hotel and free dining.
Under the tutelage of acting monastery there is an orphanage, where live more than 400 children, including about hundred of congenital disabled people and more than 80 HIV-infected patients.
Pilgrims come to monastery from so many regions including very distant countries.
