I am not a fan of Lord of the Rings either.
Fair enough, but I hope you’d agree that you don’t need to believe that what a movie is depicting is true to enjoy it. It doesn’t matter that enchantment isn’t real or that hobbits are imaginary. It’s just a story.

I don’t believe that Michael J Fox can time travel in a DeLorean, either, but letting that ruin the movie for you is kind of silly.

I am not part of any boycott because the story doesn’t interest me, but as a Catholic I don’t think we are supposed to believe anyone can be under enchantment.
I don’t believe in magic or enchantments. What I was referring to was the idea that something can be one thing but look like another. The Beast is a man but looks like an animal; the Eucharist is the Body & Blood of Christ but looks like bread and wine. So Beauty falls in love with a man who simply looks like an animal.

well I loved Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and Snow White as a little girl.

Right. And there’s nothing wrong with that, because it’s just a story. Seeing the movie didn’t make you believe that a pumpkin really could turn into a coach, just like someone seeing Beauty and the Beast doesn’t believe that a person really can be enchanted to appear as a monster.

No, but in my child-like mind I did wish for a fairy godmother who could grant my wishes! 🙂

When you visit Disneyland, you are visiting the happiest place on earth. No worries. A trip from reality.

I thought that is why it was being boycotted was the fact the female protagonist falls in love with an animal. I have never seen any version of Beauty and the Beast by the way. Wasn’t there a tv show based on yhis several years ago?
According to the OP, the movie is being boycotted by Franklin Graham and others because there is some reference to homosexuality in it, not because of the presence of a man in the form of a beast. I think it is all kind of silly.

I agree. I heard there is some small part they changed.

Haha, I think I must have misunderstood you. I thought you were saying that Catholics shouldn’t see Beauty and the Beast because seeing it implied a belief in magical enchantment, which we as Catholics don’t believe in obviously.

no, although I am sure there are some Catholics who woud not see it for those reasons.

Franklin Graham and Russian MP against beauty and the beast being ok for children. Glad to see some are taking a stand. Wish the Catholic church was taking a stronger stand. Don’t you think our first Pope, and many to follow would at least say something???
I think all of us, not just Catholics, should try to be more like Russia and Franklin Graham.

I wonder where I can buy a poster of Vladimir Putin.

With his shirt off - riding a horse. 😉
Hmmm, when you put it that way it sounds like it could be problematic.

The thing is, if we worry about America having a man-crush on Russia’s president, won’t that cut into our time for worrying about LeFou’s man-crush on Gaston? Maybe I’d better write Rev Graham for guidance on this matter.
