I didn’t think you were saying these were your ideas were yours. But I did think you were saying that I should try to get peope to change their minds. And what I am saying is that if anybody gets to know me they will be quickly relieved of their stereotypes, but they have to take the five minutes. I wasn’t mad at you. I am sorry for being harsh.
What you are saying is exactly what I was saying. 🙂 Apology excepted.

Are you still living in Haiti or have you gone elsewhere?

Hi Kendy

You could try a novena to St Joseph as he is quiet a good matchmaker from what I’ve heard. It’s quiet common for women to ask the model perfect husband to find them a husband. 🙂

I can also personally attest that St Joseph is an excellent friend and intercessor.

I agree, but being single is impeded my happiness.
To suggest that Catholics want to go to heaven more than any other religion is rather presumptuous. There are many fine Christians (Catholic and not) who are spiritual and love God. There are creeps in all religions including Catholics. My mother used to say “I hope you find a nice Catholic man” and now says, “I hope you find a GOOD man, no matter what religion he is.”🙂

Well, he did help me land my current job, which is very good. 🙂

I don’t know who said that. I think it’s more a question of compatibility. It maybe easier to raise children if there’s no conflict about faith.

Nobody has said that in this thread.

Nobody has said this in this thread either.

What’s your point?

Indeed, conflicts about the faith of the parents harms the spiritual life of the children. Even when one of the couple swears to raise the children as Catholics and the other agreeing with it, more often than not the other may grow bitter over time and step back from the agreement. It’s a risk that no child should be subject to. It’s better to marry inside one’s faith.

:blessyou:

I think if we really want to get beyond, then we should just move on and stop organizing things are everybody 's tribe. I just want to be a catholic. No adjectives!
I’m 100% with you! As a foreigner from a country also formed by and large by immigration, I was quite surprised to find out how many hyphen-Americans there are. There are more people in America claiming to be Irish than in Ireland! The latent racism that permeates everywhere colonized by the British is astounding, even to the point of restricting people by their nationalities to ghettos. A real shame that Americans must strive to shake off by starting to think in the person, not on his adjectives.

:blessyou:

Don’t give up hope. You’re not even 30 yet.

I dated a Catholic girl when I was 20. Didn’t work out. Nice girl, though.

Dated a Catholic girl when I was 30. Didn’t work out. For a number of years afterward, I referred to her as “She Who Must Not Be Named…Lest She Be Summoned”.

Dated a non-Catholic girl in my late thirties, long-distance. Moved to Toronto to be with her. That was 4.5 years ago. Very happy! She’s “the one”.👍

It may take a little time, or it might be tomorrow. Wait for “Mr Right” – don’t just settle for “Mr Right Now”.

Do you have friends who could help you “branch out” socially? All of my dates, actually, have been a “friend of a friend”*. Networking isn’t just for jobs.

*Edit: And, in retrospect, none of **them **were Catholic. Mysterious ways, eh?

So, I need to throw myself a pity party. Hope you will indulge me. I reverted three years ago and broke up with the guy I was dating at the time, and I haven’t gone on a single date since.

So, here’s my analysis of the problem. I am a conservative catholic and a black woman. There are not that many orthodox black men out there, and most conservative white men don’t even think of me as a woman although they won’t admit it. I never had this problem when I was dating secular guys. I had a steady stream of white boyfriends, if for no others reasons most liberals are happy to prove to themselves how open-minded they are.

Anyway, I am approaching 30, my mother is harrassing me, and I am so frustrated. 😦 I am seriously thinking that I should just give up on the idea of finding a catholic and just marry someone outside of the faith…🤷
Care to live near Toronto? 😃

I was thinking about something similar with my children, when they said it will be impossible to find someone that isn’t tainted by the world’s morals. I have no experience with them myself, but did you ever think of the Catholic singles websites? I know there are a few, one Fr. Groelchel endorces because someone he knew met and married through it.
I read a story or a woman who said she would do this and not do anything out of state. Well, she started talking to someone in Canada…just chatting online and on the phone and over months, said she would meet him. (she lived in MA/NJ?) Well, they clicked and although “who moved” is vague, I know they worked it out and she realized she shouldn’t have put herself in such a small box.
Just a suggestion…good luck, I’ll say a prayer you meet someone who is right for you.

Kendy, Kendy, Kendy…I’ve been married 13 yrs now, and it is like this 🙂 😃 🙂 :hypno: 😃 . So you sound like a very smart young lady and if you are beautiful, then that makes it even more intimidating for men today. But I was in your shoes some time ago…I was a young, tall, slim, pretty good looking Puertorican girl, that was born and grew up in NJ. I had a very active social life in the church, I had more guy friends than girls, and I even used to go to huge youth activities in NY. But I could not get any of these catholic guys, to even ask me on a date. But many of the girls would tell me, so many of them like you. But they are intimidated by your looks and the leadrship roles you hold within the church groups. So eventually I gave it all up to the Lord, when my parents retired to PR, I moved there with them and long and behold in the wirdest of places I met my Hubby. He was a divorced soldier, that had gonne back to the island after the Gulf conflict etc. etc. We had sooo little in common, it was scary, but we were always so interested in each others interests and ideas. We married catholic and it has been interesting . We are the closest of friends. We could hang out together and never get bored. So just trust in the Lord, continually write to he Lord in a journal, what you want this guy to be like etc. He will show up…and believe me, it is better late than sooner. Being a military wife, I have moved around some, met all kinds of married people, both military and civilian, and it has also allowed me to see some of the most pathetic and sad divorces. So waiting is good, keep this thread open. Who knows if prince charming might come in here !

I’ll come to your pity party, but your gonna have to serve something besides V8. :coffee: :coffee: That’s better.

I still remember way back when, when you converted. You’re a smart woman. I second the poster who suggested Catholic men are intimidated by your brains and beauty. Remember how you worried about having a large family–well that’s less likely if you marry late. My mom didn’t get married until she was in her late thirties, and only had two children.

While I can understand your frustration that you haven’t found Mr. Right, on the positive side–you don’t have a mother-in-law. 😉 Oh, sorry 😊 This is your pity party, not mine. Here, have some more coffee. :coffee:

haha…loving the dialogue on this thread! 🙂

I met my DH on Ave Maria Singles…highly recommend the site! 👍

And wanted to second the prayers to St. Joseph–he helped me pass 4 calculus classes in college AND find a handsome husband to boot! 😃 😃 😃

Think of it this way - you are not really having a dry spell of dating, you are simply not spending time with the wrong man. You’ve narrowed down your pool of eligible men (because he now needs to be Catholic) so you are not really dateless, you are just accessible to him when he comes around. Does that make any sense?

Also - you only need ONE man. So it doesn’t matter how many there are out there, really, in total.

I am just trying a different spin on your situation.

St. Joseph worked for me! 👍

Kendy, I am not trying to brush aside your concerns. I think you are very likely right in your assessment of the situation. The likely truth is that A) there are relatively few black Catholics and B) white men are less likely to be attracted to black women than the other way around. (I once read an article on the subject… Asian men in America face a similar problem, as they’re not generally appealing to white women but Asian women are appealing to white men.)

However! You don’t need a bunch of men to marry. You only need one. Don’t despair.

When I was asking St. Joseph to help me, I had a lot of reasons why I could assume that I couldn’t find a good Catholic husband. I was in my late 30’s, with a baby born out of wedlock, and some other baggage. On paper, I suppose I didn’t look like a likely candidate for Catholic marriage. But, I prayed to St. Joseph, kept a positive attitude, and found a good man on Catholic Match. We are expecting our third baby!

Hi, I have been out for a while. It depends…what’s in Toronto? 😉
Black Catholics? (I’m just hazarding a guess - I’ve only been to Toronto once in my life. It’s a very multicultural city.)
