Our priest asked us to use this announcement in our Choir PowerPoint before Mass:
“PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR PHONES, STOP TALKING AND RECOLLECT FOR MASS.”

I changed it to “PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR PHONES, REMAIN SILENT, AND RECOLLECT FOR MASS.”

How can I change Recollect for Mass to something more appropriate? I know what he means - reflect, pray, focus, feel the presence of Christ, etc. but want to keep it short & simple.

Thanks!

We have drop down screens in my parish. Before Mass the following message is shown: Out of respect for the Blessed Sacrament and for those spending time in prayer ,refrain from taking Not verbatim but that’s the gist

Welcome to mass at …we ask that you turn off or silence all electronic devices at this time. Remember we are in the presence of God, we ask for silence as we turn our thoughts toward him.

“Please silence your cell phones so everyone can quietly and prayerfully prepare for Mass.”

The ones that you provided seem a little too abrasive. Also, I would avoid using all capital letters.

May God bless you all with a transformative Lent! 🙂

I agree with the sentiment and have no suggestions for “recollect”. The thing that caught my eye was the power point. What do you use a power point for? Isn’t it distracting?

Drop, down screens for music ,creed St Michaels prayer.
Pathetic,huh? I don’t like them

Drop down screens?!? The deacon or lector can’t just make an announcement? 😱
Reminds me of the little video they show you at the movies telling you to put your phone on silent and don’t use it and don’t talk during the movie.
So some churches are now like movie theaters(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

Add to that it’s pretty much ineffective.People still visiting regardless😳

Yep.Announcements after Mass are included. Our church is in the round, don’t like that either. Been a parishioner for years and overall I love my parish however…😳

When I was a cantor I had to make the “please silence/turn off your phones” announcement. I always stayed on script, but there was one cantor once that said “Please turn off your phones. Remember, Jesus can read what you’re reading and writing and will want to know what’s more interesting than mass just as much as you.” That got some chuckles from people, but I did see a bit more of a flurry of activity from people checking their phones after that one.

Meaning the alter is in the center and all the pews spoke out from there .However there aren’t levels to the pews.

Drop downs are usally used before the deacons take podium. Usally like 20 mins before mass starts. Doesnt do much good. My parish sounds like a grade school cafeteria until the mass starts. A guy actuall showed up in shorts and flip flops for confession this past Saturday
