**I am not buying into any modern revisionist. The store I buy my goods is called NT, an epic treatise of contradictions. Mark 14:50 says clearly that when Jesus was arrested ALL his disciples deserted him and fled. Later they were found behind locked doors for fear of being arrested too. That’s where I buy what I know. For the replacement of Mary Magdalene with John as Jesus beloved disciple, one does not need to be a genius to know that the hand of the Church is behind this conspiracy. But I understand you. I am aware of the works of faith.

Aw, Come On Ben. You never show me any proof that Jesus was married, other than saying “It is in the NT”. Which part of the NT? You never say but keep on avoiding. Remember, Mark was not the direct disciple of Jesus. Mark was the disciple of Peter, and Peter fled away from Jesus (I agree with you about Peter). No wonder Peter did not know what happened underneath the cross in detail. There was no way that Peter see John was there.

Remember, Planten, Ishmael was an illegitimate son of Abraham.
Genesis 16:3 Know the foundation FIRST before attributing a false and VERY wrong judgment on Abraham. A difficult lesson, I know… but you are wrong in the above statement and yet you have said it as though it were truth (perhaps though you are saying your declaration is correct and the Word of God is wrong?.. I hope not).

I agree with Planten… Sarah did not believe God and thus created a situation that ANY normal woman could easily create even in the sincerity of her heart since we tend to be led by emotions. I also agree with Planten that she was still a good woman. There is a reason that she called HER husband lord and that is because he DID believe God (as it was to Abraham that God revealed Himself to being that men tend to be led by rationality)… and in that trust based in the knowledge he had of God, he too did the right thing by honoring his FIRST wife’s wishes… and sure enough, God is taking care of the children of Ishmael who heed God’s Word the same that He (God) is taking care of the children of Israel who heed God’s Word. Ishmael was NOT the illegimate son of Abraham… the children that are stealing are those of the father whose line is from Damascus (Genesis 15 ~ the full chapter contains much about the promise to Abraham concerning his LEGITIMATE children… and who it is that is not legitimate).

I see that they are either having fun ridiculing Catholicism / Christianity or they are confirmed idiots which I don’t think they are. Thus it has to be the former.

However irritating it is, the upside is they can’t disprove anything and their argument so devoid of anything intelligent that anyone who read the posts wills see them for what they are. More importantly Catholics can only be strengthened in their faith when they are bombarded with such ignorance and silliness.
Your faith though obviously has kept you from missing the GROSS errors of your fellow catholics in this thread. Perhaps you are just trying to justify your lack of knowledge of what is actually being said here. shrugs

I said this because God Himself never acknowledged the relationship between Abraham and Hagar. See Gen 21:12. The relationship between Abraham and Hagar was beyond the plan of God. However, God had made a promise that the descendant of Abraham would be a much as the sand in the shore or the stars in the sky. (In fact, the number of stars in the sky are much more than the number of human being in the earth). Also, Ishmael has nothing to do with Sarah and Hagar. So, God the most merciful would not let Ishmael die. But still, legally speaking, Ishmael was not a legitimate son of Abraham.

🤷 After Genesis 21:12… the next verse, read that as well. It was mercy Divinely given, but NOT because Abraham and Hagar sinned in conceiving Ishmael. Abraham laid with HIS wife GIVEN to him by Sarah as an act of desperation, albeit a good intentioned desire to see her husband have a son. He trusted God though in the end to honor his FIRST wife’s wishes. He knew God would honor his 2nd WIFE and his LEGITIMATE child with her. The covenant would obviously be with his first wife, but that did not mean that his second wife and child did something that should be considered “wrong” or “illegitimate” (which is what you said and that is the wrong judgment to be making on Abraham).

I did say “legally speaking”, didn’t I? While it is true that God did not acknowledge the relationship of Abraham and Hagar as husband and wife, but God did acknowledge his love and mercy and His promise to Abraham. So, legally speaking Ishmael was illegitimate as he had no part of the inheritance, but Ishmael existence was legitimate under the love of God. Otherwise, why did (a) God let Hagar to be pregnant and (b) God even saved Ishmael when he was expelled away by Abraham. You see? You must differentiate what is the will of God and what is not. Do not mixed things up, so that the relationship between Abraham and Hagar was indeed the will of God.

For sure, I believe that Abraham was a prophet. But, I also believe that Abraham did something beyond the will of God too. Finally, I also believe that God is the God who is faithful to His promise, and God is the God who is faithful to the love He has given to human being, whom God himself said that “It is very good” (Gen 1:31).

Remember. It is God’s grace that makes human being “very good” as intended by God. No human can declare his/her own self is “good” before the eye of God.

Eh… ya budged a bit to show even a bit of mercy on at least the child. Also, you have admitted that God is faithful to His promise and obviously you believe that the promise of God was given to the children of Sarah… and thus, God is not like man that He will repent of this promise. Since the Jewish were born from the “seed” of Sarah by the promise of God… then that is the “seed” in whom the covenant is still resting. I do agree with you… He is FAITHFUL to His promise, thank His goodness.

Still, I do not think Abraham was in the wrong as God has said to man to honor the wife of their youth and not ONCE did Abraham break this in regards to Sarah and her wishes with Hagar (both her wish for him to conceive with her and her wish for her to be sent away). The only time he did not honor his wife is when they entered into Egypt 😦

Planten,
You do realize that your interpretation of John 19 makes Muhammed a lier? That means that Jesus told Mary that he was the one on the cross…

Thanks for proving Islam wrong.

cothridge, you could say that if Jesus had taught you that. But he did not do. So it is too late now. You have no authority to invent a slogan.
Well, first of all he did teach that. But, that is neither here no there. You have accepted my argument that one cannot simply change the masculine pronouns in the Gospels to make men into women in order to fit our pet theories. As you say, “it is too late now.” By your own understanding then we can all agree that the Beloved Disciple of John is in fact a man and not a woman.

**Ralph, please know that Muhammad never said that Jesus was not on the cross. Who told you that? Muhammad has told us that it was Jesus himself on the cross. But he did not die on the cross. jesus simply fainted on the cross. He appeared to be dead. He was brought down from the cross very quickly. That is what Muhammad has taught us that Jesus did not die on the cross because it was bad for Jesus to die on the cross. that would have been a cursed death.

The Jews wanted to kill Jesus on the cross to prove that he was not a prophet of God. Jesus aso did not want to die on the cross and he had prayed in the garden before his arrest that the cup (of death on the cross) may be averted from him. that is all in your own bibleNT. An angel came to Jesus and was strenghening Jesus, meaning teh angel was assuring Jesus that his prayer was accepted and that he would not die on the cross but he would die a natural (respectable) death.

Muhammad is not wrong. You believe what you like. Muslims believe what is in the Quran, as I just told you.**.

Let’s see what was said
4:156-159 “That they rejected Faith; That they uttered against Mary A grave false charge; That they said (in boast): ‘We killed Christ Jesus The son of Mary, The Messenger of Allah.’ But they killed him not, Nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not. Nay, Allah raised him up Unto Himself; and Allah Is Exalted in Power, Wise. And there is none of the people of the book (Jews and Christians) But must believe in him (Jesus) Before his death; And on the Day of Judgment He (Jesus) will be a witness Against them.”
They killed him not NOR crucified him…they did not kill him and they did not put him on a cross…

Sorry, Plantin, wrong again

Read the thread. It’s all in there.

Since when Judaism = Jesus? Jesus was against those Pharisees and even purposedly broke the Sabbath rule. Is that what you call as a good Judaism? In this thread you lick your own words. Remember you always said that the followers of Jesus and the Jewish were at peace. Now, you acknowledge that the followers of Jesus were afraid of the Jews.

Sorry Pal, there was a written proof that John was there, and yet you believe on Mark who was not there.
That’s great! If Jesus broke the Sabbath, he broke the Law.
You guys can no longer say he was perfect.

Hey, I am not the one who accused Jesus with breaking the Sabbath. Why should I be the one to look for reasons that he was allowed to break the Sabbath? That’s your Catholic friend with the burden of proof.

That’s great! If Jesus broke the Sabbath, he broke the Law.
You guys can no longer say he was perfect.
And he said to them: The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath. Therefore the Son of man is Lord of the sabbath also.

The Son is the Lord of the sabbath. He makes the law, and cannot break it.

Prove to us that John was on the Calvary before the cross. You are speculating. under the same conspiracy to clear the Church from contradictions.

I think you are the reincarnation of a roman soldier who was there, are you not? What makes you think there was a rule that a disciple could not be there?
Knowledge of Roman History and policies. If any of Jesus’ disciples was there on the Calvary that day, he would be immediately arrested. Women could, especially very close family like mother and wife.

But they killed him not, Nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them,
**Please read as follows:

But they killed him not, Nor did they kill him on the cross, but so it was made to appear to them, (that he had died on the cross.)**

Crucifixion means to kill on the cross, not to just put up a person on the cross. Please consider. Jesus was put up for Crucifixion. But due to infinite Mercy of the Lord (God) he survived the ordeal of the cross. Quite a miracle for the sake of Jesus. Quran says that. But you may believe as you like. There is no compulsion.
