Being gay is in your genes

I think it is often remarked that the burden of homosexuality on a person who wants to live a moral life is heavy because, unlike the single heterosexual, they cannot see a future wherein their need for companionship can be met.
Thank you for pointing out the obvious. This is very illogical in fact. There is a solution; submit to Christ completely and be patient. God sometimes will let us fail because He is trying to achieve our utter humility and dependence on Him and an effective way to do that is let us struggle with our sin while He continues to bless us nonetheless. Remember when we recognize the sin we commit, Christ lives with in us.

Romans 7:15
What I do, I do not understand. For I do not do what I want, but I do what I hate. 16Now if I do what I do not want, I concur that the law is good. 17So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. 18For I know that good does not dwell in me, that is, in my flesh. The willing is ready at hand, but doing the good is not.k 19For I do not do the good I want, but I do the evil I do not want. 20Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. 21So, then, I discover the principle that when I want to do right, evil is at hand. 22For I take delight in the law of God, in my inner self, 23l but I see in my members another principle at war with the law of my mind, taking me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. 24Miserable one that I am! Who will deliver me from this mortal body? 25Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Therefore, I myself, with my mind, serve the law of God but, with my flesh, the law of sin.*

The twin thing could be a result of the fact that humans are generally bisexual with a preference one way or another with a few individuals being entirely straight or entirely gay. (Actually thats a gross oversimplification)
Or it could be that we need to submit to Christ in order to be able to analyze objectively. Paz.

I believe we should always try to understand God’s point of view as opposed to depending on our own opinions. Given Scripture, God reserves a special ire for homosexuality.
No, I do not accept or believe that to be true. Perhaps this belief is why Pope Francis says that many are focusing too much on homosexuality. God hates all sin. Some are spelled out.

These six things the Lord hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
17 A proud look,
A lying tongue,
Hands that shed innocent blood,
18 A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that are swift in running to evil,
19 A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren.

**
I can find a boatload of Scripture where God hates those that despise the poor. I do not know that homosexuality would even make the top ten. I know the Bible never says God has a special ire for it. That would be Westboro Baptist Church.
It is worse than that, those with a logical and introspective mind will have to either reject homosexuality as innate or accept as ordained by God.
There is a third option, the option of the Fall of Man, which was neither innate or ordained by God.

Regarding whether God has a special ire for homosexuality, where else did He destroy a City in the Old Testament by miraculous divine intervention?

Furthermore, of all the punishments of sexual sins in Leviticus only God calls homosexuality an abomination.

Furthermore, there are various references to Sodom throughout the OT. Then there is Romans which states that homosexuals:

They are filled with every form of wickedness, evil, greed, and malice; full of envy, murder, rivalry, treachery, and spite. They are gossips and scandalmongers and they hate God. They are insolent, haughty, boastful, ingenious in their wickedness, and rebellious toward their parents. They are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know the just decree of God that all who practice such things deserve death, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.

Regarding The Pope’s comments about homosexuality, you are misled, he says there is no issue with a homosexual living a chaste life as a Christian. But he says the gay lobby is evil. What does the gay lobby do? Promote homosexuality as innate and natural to man’s condition thus confusing people - as seen here on threads like this.

Finally, regarding the things you posted that God hates, conspicuously enough these appear to fit in quite well with those that God turns over to homosexuality according to St. Paul.

Apparently you must therefore believe that the Church is promoting evil since it directs homosexuals to live a chaste life, not abandon their homosexuality. If being a homosexual were a sin, the Church would direct them to stop being homosexual, and not, as it does, direct them to be chaste homosexuals.

The only confusion that seems to exist on this thread is on your part through your equating being a homosexual as being the same as engaging in homosexual activity.

The solution of course is the Cross, but it is not a cure for the suffering caused by this ailment, the ailment of being homosexual, regardless of its origin. It only helps one to put their suffering into a good and redemptive context (not to minimize the Cross in any way). All I’m saying is that the suffering remains and must be endured. Where same-sex attraction is largely one’s fault, I can see attributing some of that suffering to one’s just deserts, but like the man who was blind from birth we cannot always attribute a person’s mental or physical condition to sin. In either case, suffering is a reality for those nailing their sexual appetites to the Cross, especially those who have little hope of ever finding a right expression for their sexuality. I would not snuff out hope for all homosexuals in someday being partially, if not wholly, restored/changed to heterosexuality, but it does not appear to be likely in some cases (I’ll leave it to you to judge what percentage of homosexuals that means).

Nailing our sex drives to the Cross is of course a continually painful thing to do, and even more so when reasonable hope of changing one’s sexual preference seems impossible. The suffering of homosexual chastity seems akin to single person and priestly/religious celibacy, especially the latter, which has no hope of ever experiencing sexual fulfillment due to the permanence of his or her vow. The main difference is that one is always unnatural. Are priests and religious unfaithful to their vows, and single persons unfaithful to chastity? The answer is undoubtedly, “Yes,” in many cases. Just as celibate homosexuals may backslide, priests and single persons may fall. In a way, only the priest and the religious are in a position to fully empathize with the celibate homosexual who sees little or no hope for changing his or her sexual identity, because both have made a deliberate choice for God over their sexual appetites, and both hold no hope for future sexual fulfillment, except by failure to live a chaste life (if that could be called “fulfillment”).

We must never fail to extend empathy and understanding to out homosexual brothers and sisters, because there is true and unavoidable suffering in their living of chaste lives. We who are not celibate, and who enjoy the married life, can only appreciate what they are going through in part. We, too, must rein in our sexual appetites during the many times in our lives when sex in marriage is not available to us. But usually this is with hope and the reasonable expectation of resuming marital relations.

All of this is not to say that God is unfair in doling out crosses to those who wish to follow Christ. All we can be sure of is that each of us is given the perfect cross, custom tailored for us, and sufficient grace to carry it. Where one person’s cross consists in this or that issue, another person’s cross consists in something altogether different. God is a fair judge, a judge who always weighs any mitigating circumstances, but also a judge who demands out complete surrender to his will, no ifs, ands, or buts, knowing that his grace is always sufficient, even for the weakest among us.

The Bible condemns homosexual conduct, and it does so in many places. Always, the Bible is clear that it condemns the behavior, i.e., a person having sex with a person of the same sex, but, as I’ve said before in this thread, in no case does the Bible condemn persons for feeling sexually attracted to persons of the same sex. Sexual orientation is not a sin. It usually is accompanied by temptation to sin. But temptation is not a sin either. Only the act of yielding to temptation is a sin. If a person lusts in his or her heart, whether heterosexual (for a person not their spouse) or homosexual, he sins. And if he or she acts on the lust they have allowed to enter their hearts, they sin again.

In both cases, heterosexual and homosexual, sexual sin is gravely evil. One is intrinsically evil, because by its very nature it is sinful, such as is masturbation. The other is natural but evil by its being outside the bonds of Holy Matrimony. Both are evil, so we shouldn’t get the idea (I’m not saying you or I do) that we’re somehow morally superior because out sins are not intrinsically evil, as if that makes them less grave.

It is good you are looking for answers, Christ appreciates that. It is His will and not our own and since we have no fear of death or the real consequences of our sins we can use this knowledge to seek Him without reservations(assuming we are repentant).

My advice to you is to question any thing and everything the gay lobby promotes, because they hate Christ and children. The Catholic Church dogma and the Bible are your guide. Peace.
Um okay.

The LGBT community has a number of valid complaints, that many advocates for that community try to solve those issues in incorrect ways doesn’t make the complaints less valid.
The twin thing could be a result of the fact that humans are generally bisexual with a preference one way or another with a few individuals being entirely straight or entirely gay. (Actually thats a gross oversimplification)
Humans aren’t generally bisexual, many, perhaps even most women are quite capable of enjoying a romantic, even sexual relationship with other women, but that doesn’t necessarily make them bisexual. Bisexuality requires one to be attracted to both sexes, not merely capable of enjoying sexual relations with both sexes.

God said Jerusalem was worse

Ezechie 16l said:
45 Thou art thy mother’s daughter, that cast off her husband, and her children: and thou art the sister of thy sisters, who cast off their husbands, and their children: your mother was a Cethite, and your father an Amorrhite.
46 And thy elder sister is Samaria, she and her daughters that dwell at thy left hand: and thy younger sister that dwelleth at thy right hand is Sodom, and her daughters.
47 But neither hast thou walked in their ways, nor hast thou done a little less than they according to their wickednesses: thou hast done almost more wicked things than they in all thy ways.
48 As I live, saith the Lord God, thy sister Sodom herself, and her daughters, have not done as thou hast done, and thy daughters.
49 Behold this was the iniquity of Sodom thy sister, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance, and the idleness of her, and of her daughters: and they did not put forth their hand to the needy, and to the poor.
50 And they were lifted up, and committed abominations before me: and I took them away as thou hast seen.
51 And Samaria committed not half thy sins: but thou hast surpassed them with thy crimes, and hast justified thy sisters by all thy abominations which thou hast done.
52 Therefore do thou also bear thy confusion, thou that hast surpassed thy sisters with thy sins, doing more wickedly than they: for they are justified above thee, therefore be thou also confounded, and bear thy shame, thou that hast justified thy sisters.

Yeah, um, Romans 1:18-32 is one chunk of text that refers to sin alienating from God, 19-32 refer to

Romans 1 said:
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and injustice of those men that detain the truth of God in injustice:

Your misunderstanding is the result of failing to examine Romans 1 as a unit.

With all due respect you are apparently confused not only about what Pope Francis said but also the Catholic Church teaching. Here is the translated version from the Argentinian reporter who interviewed the Pope:

Much is written of the gay lobby. I not yet met anyone that has give me photo ID at the Vatican that says they are with the gay lobby. However, it is said that the gay lobby exists. When one encounters a person like this one must distinguish between being gay and being part of the gay lobby, because no lobby is good. If a person is gay and seeks the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge? The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains this very well. It says we should not marginalize these people for their condition. They should be integrated into society. The problem is not having this tendency. We must be brothers. The problem is to be part of a lobby.

It is clear Pope Francis statements are a quick summary of the Catholic Catechism, where we are called not to discriminate against persons who suffer from homosexual tendencies.

Therefore, your claim that the Pope is insinuating that homosexuals are not called to abandon their homosexuality is unfounded, to say the least, given that homosexuality is called depraved and unnatural and the homosexual person is called to “gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection”. Furthermore, the same persons referenced as having “deep seated” homosexual tendencies are not allowed for consideration as priests which only further supports the idea that “Christian perfection” in a person with homosexual tendencies is that they are lessoned. Therefore, if it were as you claim the Catholic Church would have no issue with persons who have deep seated homosexual tendencies from being priests, which is not the case. Pope Francis and the Catechism are merely recognizing people have this condition but in no way are stating that it should be permanent, on the contrary.

In summary the Church policy is to encourage persons with deep seated homosexual tendencies to change “gradually and resolutely” with the help of Christ of course.

Since Catolico believes God gave homosexuals (the adults, not the children…) their homosexuality as a punishment, they are immediately condemned by him (if God condemns, how can he not?) It is not surprising therefore that he would see little difference between homosexuality and Homosexual acts. This may explain why he is not willing to concede the goodness of struggling homosexuals who remain chaste.

His interpretation of the Romans text as being about individuals, rather than cultures/societies, gives rise to these strange notions, not taught by the Church.

The flood.

Among many other thihngs.

What is not mentioned in Romans 1 is Sodom. Yet we see in this list many things that are wicked besides homosexuality. They antecedent for “they” is “the unrighteous.” In the context of the argument Paul is laying out it is all unrighteous. Ever been disobedient to parents? You’re in there.

No, I wasn’t. I just do not agree with you.

With all due respect I recognize that temptations are not sins. Nonetheless, repeated temptations that defile the mind, such as homosexuality, are signs of a problem and the worse thing that can be done is ignore them or say they are natural, such as you and others pretend. Furthermore, the catechism calls for homosexuals to change thus inferring that they should not deem this condition as permanent.

Regarding Romans, God throughout the Bible “turns” people to all sorts of evil for their wickedness, so rather than judge God we should give Him the benefit of the doubt as we know He is perfect and His decisions are always just. God cannot fail nor do wrong. It is impossible.

Repeated quotation from Saint Alphonsus Liguori:
Thus a soul need not imagine herself out of God’s favor because she is tempted, but should make it rather a motive of hope that God loves her. It is a delusion of the devil to lead some pusillanimous persons to suppose that temptations are sins that contaminate the soul. It is not bad thoughts that make us lose God, but the consenting to them; let the suggestions of the devil be ever so violent, let those filthy imaginations which overload our minds be ever so lively, they cannot cast the least stain on our souls, provided only we yield no consent to them; on the contrary, they make the soul purer, stronger, and dearer to Almighty God.
God is not worried about our minds being defiled by temptations which we reject. Only sin can defile the mind.

(Mind you: We must always pray that God remove our temptations. If that is all you are saying, I agree with you.)

Who would wish what many find a “trial” to be permanent for those people? So of course neither the pope nor the Church nor any other charitable person wishes it.🤷 But, that’s not the same as “requiring” that condition to be eliminated.

Please stop misrepresenting the Catechism. Homosexuality - the state of ones attractions, is NOT itself condemned by the church - only by Catolico. The Church states that “homosexual acts” are depraved and contrary to natural law. The Church advocates chastity as the path to follow. If God sees fit to relieve a person of those attractions, then thanks be to God, but such is not necessary for salvation. Remaining chaste while failing to eliminate the SSA nails suffering to the cross and no more is asked.

Homosexuality is certainly a problem for those who seek to follow God. Who denies that? But I find no merit in classifying temptations as natural or unnatural, so I do not say homosexual temptations are “natural”. Temptations are all unwelcome. If ignoring or turning away from the temptation enables one to avoid sin, that is a good strategy, no? If another course of action causes those temptations to recede, that is also a good thing, no?

The Church advocates resisting temptations. Christian perfection does not require an absence of temptations. We know this from the example of Christ.

God is not worried about our minds being defiled by temptations which we reject. Only sin can defile the mind.

(Mind you: We must always pray that God remove our temptations. If that is all you are saying, I agree with you.)
Yes, exactly, I agree also (with you and St Alphonsus Liguori!

What you infer from this statement is that persistent homosexual desires as temptations are normal, but that is unsubstantiated.

Romans 1:25:

*They exchanged the truth of God for a lie and revered and worshiped the creature rather than the creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.w 26Therefore, God handed them over to degrading passions. *

It is clear that homosexuality in adults that have not had some type of trauma or indoctrination of a child are given homosexual temptations. Whether they choose to act on them is their own decision. There is a cure, submittal to God and humility. Of course if people think God works on their schedule they have an issue with arrogance imo.
Submittal to God and humility will keep a person from giving into same sex temptation, just as it will keep a person from giving into opposite sex temptation, but it will no more change a homosexual’s orientation than it will maintain a heterosexual’s orientation, neither of which is sinful. It may be possible to change a person’s sexual orientation, but that will not cure them of sin, for heterosexuals are also subject to sexual temptation. What a change in sexual orientation would do would be to provide a right object for one’s sexuality. That alone does not free them from temptation to sexual sin. If it’s possible, that’s grand, but I am no doctor and do not know if it is possible. It seems so in cases where it is largely a learned condition, but that is only my unprofessional reckonings. The orientation is not sinful, but the right orientation would open up hope for a right expression of one’s sexuality. At worst, it will change nothing, as some persons are called by God to a celibate life. In that case, like for the homosexual, celibacy is their Cross, or gift, as your perspective allows. St. Paul did not exactly give marriage his highest rating, advocating the celibate life as best, if possible, but that is a whole other discussion, as he was possibly speaking in the belief of Jesus’ imminent return.

THE COUNCIL OF TRENT Session V:
Decree Concerning Original Sin
  1. If anyone denies that by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ which is conferred in baptism, the guilt of original sin is remitted, or says that the whole of that which belongs to the essence of sin is not taken away, but says that it is only canceled or not imputed, let him be anathema.
For in those who are born again God hates nothing, because there is no condemnation to those who are truly buried together with Christ by baptism unto death,[18] who walk not according to the flesh,[19] but, putting off the old man and putting on the new one who is created according to God,[20] are made innocent, immaculate, pure, guiltless and beloved of God, heirs indeed of God, joint heirs with Christ;[21] so that there is nothing whatever to hinder their entrance into heaven.
**
But this holy council perceives and confesses that in the one baptized there remains concupiscence or an inclination to sin, which, since it is left for us to wrestle with, cannot injure those who do not acquiesce but resist manfully by the grace of Jesus Christ; indeed, he who shall have striven lawfully shall be crowned.[22]
**
This concupiscence, which the Apostle sometimes calls sin,[23] the holy council declares the Catholic Church has never understood to be called sin in the sense that it is truly and properly sin in those born again, but in the sense that it is of sin and inclines to sin.
**
But if anyone is of the contrary opinion, let him be anathema.**
Temptation that is resisted cannot hurt the person. Also even saints were tempted
Regarding Romans, God throughout the Bible “turns” people to all sorts of evil for their wickedness, so rather than judge God we should give Him the benefit of the doubt as we know He is perfect and His decisions are always just. God cannot fail nor do wrong. It is impossible.
God didn’t make them into that, he let it happen.

It depends on what you mean by “natural.” Homosexuality is an unnatural condition, disordered, I believe the Church says. It is not, however, a sinful condition. Temptations of a homosexual nature “naturally” spring from a homosexual condition. In that sense, it would be unnatural for heterosexual temptations to come. The catechism, I can tell you without even looking, say nothing about changing one’s orientation, only about changing one’s behavior. There is no inference in the Catechism that the orientation should or can be changed. God calls for homosexuals who are committing homosexual acts to change from committing those sinful acts. The question never comes up as to whether or not they can change their likes and dislikes. If I have a penchant for strawberries, but they make me break out in hives, then I should refrain from eating strawberries. I cannot, however, be expected to change my liking for strawberries. That’s “natural” to me, even if it were an “unnatural craving”, which it is not.

The problem with equating homosexuality with homosexual behavior is that one begins to dislike both the sin and the sinner. Intense dislike is hatred. We should hate the sin, but love the sinner. We all know that. That is why it is important to separate the condition from the action, homosexuality from homosexual sins.

I would never dissuade a homosexual from seeking help from a Catholic psychiatrist who is expert in the area of homosexuality. Maybe they can help, maybe they can’t. It would be good to change the condition that lies at the base of homosexual temptation, if that is possible, and if it doesn’t do more harm than good, but it won’t free a person from equally grave heterosexual temptation. The only thing that would remove all sexual temptation is to turn a person into an asexual, which accounts for 1% of the population. I think the Church would frown on this, even though it would cure a person of all temptation to grave sexual sin.
