They assigned psychologists who told them this “condition” was caused by STRESS??? I guess what absolutely floors me, is that these intelligent men actually bought this theory. No amount of stress in the world would cause an act so heinously evil!!! Pedophilia is Satanic in nature. This seems to stem from the watering down of the Church’s position on sin, Satanic influence, and mysticism in general in that time period. Problems were only psychological in nature, and had nothing to do with evil or sin, or Satan himself!! The intellectuals in the Church were at the time downplaying it all, and some insisting Satan didn’t even exist. When you water down the faith, this is what you get.
Hey, these were the experts in psychology and human behaviour. They were the ones who had degrees and PhDs in the subject. Maybe the Church should have done otherwise, but when the best in brightest in the field were advising the Church to do this, the Church decided to trust them (after all, they were the experts). It’s only now that we know that these “experts” did not have an understanding of the problem.Wonderful!!
The idea is that “sin” wasn’t even on their map. I am not saying that the Church (in some cases) purposely shuffled these priests around knowing full well that they would “strike again”. I am sure they thought they were on the right track. They thought it to be a psychological problem only that had nothing to do with one of the the worst sins imaginable. You could probably call any perverse addiction a “psychological disorder” from pornography to acting on homosexual tendancies, but the Church seemed to take “sin” and any kind of evil influence out of the equation. This all transpired during the time that sin and/or evil was not on their radar.
It just keeps on getting worse. Scripture refers to homosexual activity as an abomination.
A lot of things are caused by stress. For example, a man kills his wife and children if he is stressed out too much.
Um, forgive me if I have not understood you, but are you honestly implying that ‘homosexuality’ comes about because priests and bishops are not married?

Anyone who blames the rape and molestation of children on stress is not a serious scientist. There were scientists in the Nazi regime that excused the murder of Jews on the basis of their “inherent inferiority”. It seem that the church just selected some crackpot psychologist in order to have an excuse not to out the horrible abuse going on within it.
Wow, even under a great deal of stress, people don’t usually cross that line. No way would I believe that pedophile priests did this because they were stressed out. They are pedophiles, plain and simple.

I suspect you would be the first to hammer the bishops with “but they didn’t go to the proper venues of psychiatry” if they had not sought help. It says much about you and your bigotry that you don’t acknowledge that the advise they were given and followed was wrong. It is expecting the bishops to be able to have **your **hindsight, then. Shame on you.
Tell me what you would do if you found that one of your co-workers or employees raped and molested a child that was under their care at work. Stop your reflexive defensiveness for one moment and think if you, as a compassionate human being, would be content to just send that co-worker to a psychologist and them reassign them somewhere else to work, often with children again? Would you just trust a psychologist that the worker, who raped and molested a child, is okay to work with children again?
I hope you have the same diligence with teachers, they have a higher rate of molestation than priest and be sure not to let your partner come near them and watch out for yourself. Parents are the highest molester of children.
They weren’t children but adolescence. It doesn’t make it any less horrible but it doesn’t have the same emotional pull does it? It exposes your argument to what is ignorance.
The bishops sought medical help. You may think that was wrong but you went further than that to indicate that the bishops sought out help that gave them an “excuse”. It was the common medical advice of the time. You want to slaughter so you do everything to make a horrible situation worst. The percentage of priest is less than 2% in ALL of the world yet you want to hold to all priest. Shame on you.
