In charity and respect I would like to put it in another way for you. When you go to worship with this family you will be making a public profession of THEIR faith if you appear to be worshipping with them. Pardon me if I missed it but I didn’t see where you said which faith we are talking about and maybe that is intentional. However, just for arguments sake lets say we are talking about islam and you go to worship “allah” with them. Even if, in your mind, you are worshipping Jesus as you bow down, you are still making a public statement that you are worshipping allah. That is a form denouncing Our Lord–publicly, if not privately.

Simply stated, you must not even appear to be worshipping another god. It is a very grave sin. Many martyrs were killed because they wouldn’t acknowledge the Roman emperor as a god. It would have been easier to just verbally say " oh yeah, he’s a god" and then silently say to themselves “no, there is only one God–Father, Son, and Holy Spirit”. But they didn’t do that, they chose death rather than say publicly that they believed in any other gods than their God.

Though the CCC says that a disparity of cult is not an insurmountable obstacle in a marriage, it is a really big one. If you proceed with the marriage, you will be missing out on a immense joy of worshipping with your spouse and possibly your future children. That is enormously painful, I know whereof I speak (to be fair, both my husband were non-Christians when we married, I later converted; he didn’t). Be that as it may, you may choose out of your love for this person to proceed with the marriage (hopefully following all of the steps to do so). If so, it would probably be best in terms of family harmony to keep worship separate. You may certainly go to a mosque or synagogue or whatever, but there must not be even the appearance of worship as the your in-laws do.

Hope that helps. It is said with love and no judgments. May our Lord help you discern how to proceed.

Dear All

I once again appreciate your candid responses. I had missed mentioning this point earlier.

I believe that there is only one GOD and that our religion is the true one. But when I was asked by my would-be that why can’t I follow their religion only for the sake of harmony in the family, I took enough time to think and within myself came this point that we pray and seek the intervention of so many Saints in our day-to-day lives and we visit so many shrines with due respect to these Saints. Then why can’t I consider his God’s to be just Saints and respect them and pray to them. This way, I will not be doing injustice to mine as well as their Gods.

If we believe and profess that our GOD is full of compassion and love, we must also show that in action and not only in words. What if God wants me to take this direction only to see if my would-be can become a Christian in the future.

Please revert on the above.

I am a practising Roman Catholic and going to marry a non-catholic person this year. We have agreed to follow our own religion but to keep up the harmony and understanding in the family, we have agreed to respect and be part of the rituals followed by the other.

In this regard, I may have to carryout certain rituals which is expected out of a daughter-in-law. Though I will be doing it for their happiness, my heart, soul and body will only bow before our Lord Jesus Christ though in practicality it may appear as though I am worshiping their God. My eyes will only see my Saviour.

Please revert with your feedback whether I am right in my thinking keeping in mind a good married life.
Hi

It is good to resepect every religion though.

But Jesus had never been God and he is not God in my opinion. Jesus did not die on Cross which creed was only invented by Paul when Jesus had gone to India alongwith Mary and other trusted friends.

Thanks

Was it India? 🤷
I read in a scholarly work that he went with his mother to the Bahamas. :tanning:

Seriously, what did Paul gain by making up such a story other than hardship and a beheading at Rome? You forget that Paul is the same Saul who had ferociously persecuted the Church and ordered the execution of the first known Christian martyr Stephen before his extraordinary conversion. The church at Jerusalem had already believed in the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ through the preaching of the Apostles who testified to these events as first-hand witnesses. Paul authorized Stephen’s execution because the latter had preached about Jesus’ divinity. He was sentenced to death for blasphemy like his Lord and Master who had claimed to be one with the Father (Acts 7: 54-60).

It is this disciple who testifies these things and has written them, and we know that his testimony is true.

Hi

Perhaps, GodAllahYHWH made Paul to be beheaded in terms of Deuteronomy, a fate of a false Messenger, in my opinion. Paul was never trained by Jesus as a disciple and further Jesus never foretold before the event of Crucifixion that Paul would be his successor.

Paul suffered for his wrong proclamation for which he is only to blame himself, in my opinion.

Anyway Paul’s killing is a separate incident and has no bearing on Jesus being Son of God or God.

I love Jesus and Mary

Thanks

There is a chasm of difference between respecting another religion and pretending to practice it to please people. That is an act of pleasing men and not God… something we have been warned about in Scripture. Of course, we can recognize and respect the common elements of our faith and respect another persons choices of worship. That is not what we are talking about here. The OP believes that the RC is the true church but the actions she would wish to perform would be a lie. That is not of God. Sorry, I am not trying to be rude, but actions are as important as words and thoughts. It is not witnessing to Christ (as He Himself told us to do) when we lie about our faith through our actions. Scripture tells us to “Stand firm in the faith”, and this proposed “pretend worship” is not standing in faith. In addition, to pretend to worship in another faith is actually a terrible insult to the faithful of that religion too.

OP, please think this through, every practicing Catholic on this thread has told you the same thing. I know that your intentions are good, but your logic is flawed and you are setting yourself up for a grave sin.

Again, you may go to their place of worship to show respect (well unless it is satanic). But you cannot, in good conscience, go through the motions of their worship.

No - that is not what you would be doing in reality. You would NOT be praying to these false gods as you would to our saints, you would in fact be praying to them AS gods. What you are suggesting is something that the commandment ‘thou shalt have no other gods before Me’ forbids us to ever do with any god of any religion other than the One True God.
If we believe and profess that our GOD is full of compassion and love, we must also show that in action and not only in words. What if God wants me to take this direction only to see if my would-be can become a Christian in the future.
The only outcome will be that your in-laws and husband will look at you praying to their gods and will say to themselves ‘we don’t need to bother becoming Christian - after all, she’s Christian and she prays to the same gods we’ve always prayed to’

They’re not going to change unless you show them something very different to, and better than, the religion they practice, that they will want to change to. Which you wouldn’t be doing at all if you just went along with their practices!

Hi

Jesus was not God; he was one of the perfects men like Krishna, Buddha, Zoroaster and Moses etc.

God Allah YHWH is the only One-God; and Jesus was only illuminated by attributive light of God Allah YHWH.

I love Jesus.

Thanks

Sorry, wrong again! Jesus IS God - forever and ever. And sorry, but no other man was perfect - only God is perfect.

Paarsurrey,

Please try to keep on topic, This thread is about whether or not it is ok for a person who believes that Jesus Christ IS God to go through the motions of worshipping with people who do not. The poster has made clear his/her beliefs about Jesus Christ and His Divinity is not up for debate in this thread.

You may start a new thread on His Divinity if you wish, perhaps starting with why you choose to ignore that actual words of Jesus as witnessed by the Apostle John. But stop hijacking threads, please.

If you have children who will they be given to?

The one true God who is above all and knows all?

Saints?

gods of other men?

In my eyes best they be given to The God of Jesus (pbwh) and bought up to seek only His truth in other religions and rebuke all that is not.

I pray God bless and guide you and yours to His will.
