'We have to examine ourselves. When we do things to get people to notice, to stand out, or to “express ourselves”, it could be pride.

When we do things to incite lust, it is a sin.

I don’t understand how putting a pice of stainless steel through the flesh is a reward for anything. 🤷

I had my navel pierced years ago; it was absolutely painless. It’s “my little secret” too, as I never expose that part of my body. If you want it, go for it! Congrats on the amazing weight loss! 👍

I congratulate you for losing all of that weight. I have always been skinny so I can’t say I know that is is difficult on a personal level, but I know through others just how difficult it is, so you really deserve to applaud yourself.

As others have said, it’s not a sin at all to get a belly button ring. I agree with others that I don’t personally find them attractive, but it’s not my body, it’s yours. If it will make you happy, go for it. Just make sure that like every other decision you make that you think through it and make sure it is something you want to live with. If you discern that it is, good for you. I won’t hold it against you.

Sinful, no. I find them a bit off putting… but that is more about personal taste.

I will warn you that you have a higher chance of your body rejecting the piercing than with an ear piercing. I suggest a sterling silver over steel. Steel has nickle in it and is the most common reason people have trouble with piercings.

This.

Naval piercings take the longest to heal and are the most prone to infections. Mostly due to the friction caused by the fresh piercing rubbing against clothing and being exposed to heat and sweat far more.

I had my naval pierced at 18 and it never healed well. This was mostly due to the fact that I was a very serious ballet dancer and never gave my piercing the chance to heal. It lasted for 2 years…with infections on and off…and I still have a very visible scar from it 10 years later, made worse by my pregnancy.

It’s not exactly sinful but it’s designed to be shown off and attract attention to the area which can cause occasion of sin with lust. I suppose if it’s just for you then it wouldn’t cause this kind of sin.

As for tattoos. I have two and I do enjoy them both as they both have special meaning for me. But they are both well hidden and don’t see the light of day too much now. I think if I know now what I didn’t know then…I don’t think I would have gotten tattoos.

My daughter had her belly button pierced; it got infected and developed into a big, ugly painful mess. Good for you for loosing the weight, but I would spend that money instead at a high end department store and add something stunning to your wardrobe.
My cousin’s did, too. It was massive. It makes me squeamish just thinking about it and I can handle a very high ick factor.

Congrats on the weight loss! Well done!!! 🙂 Personally, I don’t think belly button piercings are worth it. I had my pierced at 18 and kept it until I was 23. It was actually very painful, disgusting (bled for a couple months), had to clean it twice a day, got stuck on my clothing, couldn’t sleep on my stomach, etc. 3 years after it closed, I’m stuck with two ugly scars on my belly button. It never really healed properly. I should’ve had the doctors sew it shut after my piercing fell out. If I ever get pregnant, the two scars will stretch out like tattoos haha. I don’t really know. But don’t put your body through it! It’s not natural! I say get a nice outfit instead or get your hair done!🙂

I don’t see anything wrong about belly-button piercings as long as you aren’t walking around in crop-tops to show it off. lol. Just put thought into it and if you get it, care for it and give it the proper time to heal.

In the past six months, I’ve lost 57 lbs, and lately I have been considering getting my belly button pierced as a reward. Would this be thought of as a sin? I’m not planning on going around dressed immodestly or anything; I’m very self conscious and careful about how I dress. This piercing would just be kind of life my little secret and a reward for having dropped so much weight.

Any opinions? Bad idea, or good idea?
Congrats on the weight loss . I do not see how it can be a sin but please be aware that there is a possibility of infection especially if you do not have a strong immune system and it may catch on your clothes. It is for you to decide. I could think of less painful ways to reward yourself like buying yourself a few or many new outfits.

Fantastic weight loss, congratulations!

If getting a belly ring is what you would really like as a reward, get it done. As many have said, do be careful about keeping it clean - they do get infected way easier than ear piercings do. One of the big things about losing weight is then keeping it off, and the belly ring may well remind you of the terrific effort you made to slim down and not to put that weight back. It is not a reward I would choose for myself, the idea gives me cold shivers, but my daughter had one for a few years, while I couldn’t look at it to hard, it did give me an easy source of ‘fun’ gifts for her at the time. During her first pregnancy she didn’t like the way it looked, took the ring out and has never replaced it. She doesn’t regret either getting it nor taking it out.

No, it’s not sinful. I had one, and have many piercings now, though my navel piercing didn’t work out. I still have, and will always have the scar (it migrated outwards and so left a bit bigger scar than one that would have healed normally). Navel piercings are temperamental. Even after they heal, they can become unhappy if bumped/kicked/etc. A lot of the time they migrate/are rejected. I don’t necessarily regret doing it, I just don’t think it’s very practical.

It is possible to keep the piercing open during pregnancy – most people either take it out and see if it closes up, or put a flexible bar in.

As for ornamentation vs. not letting anyone see, piercings don’t have to be a public thing. There can definitely be a “point” to getting one, even if you don’t intend to show it off.

Bottom line: I think other piercings are more practical/less hassle. Try to think of why you really want it. If the purpose can be achieved by something other than a piercing, that may be a better route. Just make sure you’re aware it might not work out, as navel piercings are notorious for getting rejected.

You asked.

EWWWWW!!!

Just my opinion.
My sentiments are similar as with those who are driven into cultural fads with tatoos. I know teen girls and young women are into this kind of thing.

But most girls or women won’t tell you the real reason why they pierce themselves on their bodies. I’m not convinced its because its trendy, cultural or cool or because friends are doing the same.

It seems to wind down to two things depending where on the body they get their piercing done. Either to sexually entice or just plain vanity.

Oh! men who do the same fall under the same description above.

Certainly never was an interest to me.🤷

I would suggest Vanity would be the biggest reason and every other indirect motive related to it.

:thumbsup:Go for it!!! U worked your butt off getting the weight off. If this is something u want do it. My sister has had hers done for years now and shes never had any problems nor regrets. My ears are pierced 11 time and 2 tattoos. Every piercing and tattoo has a meaning. So no it’s not a sin and do what feels right in your heart!!! 👍👍

If you want to go for it… but I wouldn’t get one on the basis that “you can just take it out and it will go away.” I went through a piercing phase (and a tattoo phase) in college and honestly, of all the piercings that I took out my naval ring is the only one that didn’t just “go away.” It’s still there 8 years after removing it and shows no signs of disappearing anytime soon. As a result it’s the only piercing that I really, really wish that I hadn’t gotten.

If you do get one make sure you go to someone with a really good reputation. One of my best friends went to a place she’d just found without knowing anything about them and her body rejected the ring. It was pretty awful. When I got mine she went with me and the piercer looked at her piercing and could tell where it was done and who had done it, because apparently that happened a lot with his piercings. So where you get it done definitely matters!

I never would have guessed that about you!!! Thanks for sharing.

I totally get it. You now have a belly that you can be proud of, and every time you look down, you see the results of your hard work (LESS of a belly!)

A piercing is NOT the same as a tattoo. You can take a piercing out at any time and no one will be the wiser, which is not true of a tattoo.

Since it’s not a sin, I say go for it! I think a little jewel on the belly button is cute.

Edited: Based on reading more posts, I see that belly button piercings can be problematic. I still applaud you for losing that much weight, but maybe a piercing isn’t a good way to celebrate it after all.
