Belonging to more than one church?

But many catholics do things that are incompatible with catholicism and they still are catholics.
Sublime, If the world subscribes to abortions would you support abortion? If the world subscribes to unfaithful marriages would you by unfaithful to your spouse? If the world subscribes to greed, would you do most anything to obtain more money?

An old Command Sergeant Major of my used to tell us in battalion formation that their is no right way to do wrong. That was one of the best lessons I’ve ever heard. He was a preacher and a very respected man.

Nothing you say even comes across as intelligently thought out. You have much to learn and the Church is very clear on this. YOu are not supposed to practice different faiths. You are called to practice your one faith as best you can so that in time we can all work towards unity as Christ intended. The “churches” you claim to go to are not even Churches because they do not have true sacraments or the valid 7 sacraments I should say. Only the Orthodox are equivalient in that reguard.

Reading you posts makes you sound teenage…and a very confused one at that. I am praying for you. But you really are headed in the wrong direction, just as those Catholics you keep bringing up. If they are culpable for their dissent, disobedience, don’t you know that they are believed to be headed straight to hell in the next life? Invencible ignorance is a rather overly stated charity extended towards other folks. You’d almost have to believe that the other folks were moronic for falling for it. But it does happen. I fell on my face a few times. There is much wisdom in pure obedience even when you do not understand the ancient teachings of the Church. Fortunately, God has been granting me wisdom over the years to finally come to a better understanding of the facts and the teaching of the Church.

Praying for you.

I have been visiting many churches and I can’t fiqure out why everyone has to belong to one church that they go to every sunday. That just seems so boring to me, I enjoy visitng many churches, seeing new faces, and being in new buildings.

Can’t I belong to more then one church? What if I don’t want to worship God in the same church every sunday, what if I want to move around between churches?

Like for example I went to my friends Baptist church and did an alter call at his church. I did this not because I agree with all the baptist teachings, but because I wanted to show God my committment, and that I agree they may have a point that it doesn’t hurt to do this act of Faith to tell God your surrendering to him. I also did this because its harder for me now to back down from a goal to start following a more christian path in life.

Now I don’t believe you need to do an alter call to be saved, like my good friend George does nor do I believe one needs to be rebaptised. Nor do I believe the baptist church is the only way to salvation.

George, my friend who invited me to his church, now says that I have been saved I am now going to be a member of the church. I really was just planning on doing an alter call and thats that, but it seems like I am automatically a member now of his church.

I quess this is ok, but I am not planning on being an active member of his church and really am planning on becoming a catholic.

I was thinking though what harm is there in it. I could go to catholic masses and every once in a while go to Georges baptist church. The baptist church has excellent sunday schools and bible study that I could benefit from.

I also enjoy going to several catholic churches, and I really get tired of always going to the same one. Like I will sometimes go to a Catholic church by my mothers. So when I become catholic I think I would like to apply for a dual membership in more then one catholic church, just so I don’t have to always go to the same church every sunday.

Does anyone else belong to more then one church?

The CC is very exclusive - I agree with you; it is silly to have all these rigid barriers between Churches, when there is so often a great deal of agreement. And how can a divided Church be a credible witness to Christ Who destroyed the dividing wall between Jew & Greek 😦 ?

IMWO, the divisions between Churches are often nothing more than relics from the past, when there often was great disagreement. But why perpetuate them, when the Churches have found so much to agree on & share 🤷 ?

Besides, Jesus did not treat doctrine or “churchmanship” as important - He emphasised conduct. By His standards, a Samaritan is the neighbour of a Jew in need, whereas a priest & Levite, both Jewish, were not. The “right-believing”, pious, people were His deadliest enemies - He was not killed by Samaritans, but by religious types: they were so religious, that they missed the Messiah they were waiting for. Religion is a killer - & Jesus is its greatest enemy 🙂

The biggest problem is the fact that none of the protestant denominations had the Holy Eucharist! The Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ, which He gives to us through the Holy Mass.
Yeah I totally agree thats why I also want to be catholic too I believe in the Eucharist. Thats why I participated in the Eurcharist at the last catholic church I visited and I will be doing that regularly now.

I also believe in alter calls and rebaptism too thats why attending other denominations is vital as well.

I have read the entire bible and I am 100% sure doing it this way ensures I miss out on nothing.

Knowing that this is forbidden. This is incredibly disrespectful to the Church.

But you see many people miss out on the true light of God, or only can see one perspective of him. They grow up catholic and have lived catholic all their lives and have never been exposed to all the other perspectives to view God outside of the church. Likewise someone born baptist has no idea about the catholic church of things the catholics do that are vital for salvation.
I see, and you have discovered “the true light of God”? Where did you “discover” this??

I was born Catholic, raised Catholic, left the Catholic Church, looked elsewhere, saw mountains of confusion and divergent contradictory beliefs…not to mention hypocrisy and falsehood disguised as “Christianity”… I returned to the only Church that I need for my salvation…and it happens to be where I feel best, and that is the Catholic Church. I have no need or desire for the perspectives of anti-Catholics.
Only by discovering the true light of God and viewing his light from all perspectives of many denominations was I able to comprehend his full self. By locking ourselves into one denomination we narrow our minds too much.
That is a non-sequitor.
Its like reading a book and using someones notes about what that book was about to better understand it. In school if I would only use my notes and not confer with classmates about their interpetations of the book, I would not be able to comprehend all the key points in that book. Therefore I am able to fully see Gods true light by consulting with many denominations and accepting almost all their beliefs.
What you are then saying is that by learning and believing aberrant and erroneous theologies you find truth?

Sorry, no sale.

You’re supposed to be baptized and confirmed Catholic before you do that.
And be free from mortal sin. I am fairly sure that being an active and regular participant in Protestant services brings you out of communion with Holy Mother Church.

nope the bible doesn’t say so. The bible just commands us to recieve the body of christ so I do what the bible tells me.

So in other words…while you identify yourself in your profile as a “Protestant”… you actually choose to follow what is known as “BK” theology? As in Burger King…have it your way?

Seems you are mightily confused…and treading down a very dangerous path …

It doesn’t take that long to get baptized and confirmed. It took me less than six months. Just go do it. If you’ve already had a baptism that the Catholic Church recognizes, you just need confirmation.
Why are you actively involved in the Mormon Church?

I am going to be catholic, but I would never be telling people to do such a thing.😦 To have a double life.

Doing this is self-condemning. Your are a heritic by definition. Saying and especially doing these things is very disturbing. May God have mercy on your soul.

I like Mormonism.

And having a double life is fine as long as you go through the proper procedures. You hear that, Sublime Prince?
What exactly are the proper procedures for Burger King Theology? Does any of it involve having the Church formally recognise it? If not it is in no way shape or form proper.

If you like Mormonism, why not stay a full fledged Mormon?

Why swim the Tiber and tell others to have dual and conflicting spiritual reality to juggle?

You sound as if you are neither in either group, but only trying to get into both by means of “proper procedures”?

How do you teach your children faith?

Going through the proper procedures for officially joining a religion is like paying for your burger.
Cute 😛

Unless the Universal Restaurant recognises and allows you to go get Burger King, or Mcdonalds, KFC, or any of the other myriad ‘‘restaurants’’ that broke away from it 500 years ago, then you probably shouldn’t be still ordering from the menu at the Universal Restaurant.

I don’t understand this!

You feel everything you did to become a Catholic was merely going through motions to get what you wanted?

And, you consider the treasure of the Catholic Church to be on par with a burger?🤷

I am not going to view it this way when I become a Catholic.

I am hoping to be a catholic who has had to take the time, and trouble and effort to be a part of her, to be fully with and in her, and if its a bumpy ride, well- I guess I will have to take each bump with knowing its not going to be easy but its going to be something WORTH dying for.

With a dual spirituality, how can you be willing to do that?

If I’m not mistaken trying to participate in another religious faith while being Catholic is automatic excommunication…however, I’d have to look into it. But it is serious…MORTAL…sin with the punishment of Eternal Death should you do so willingly of your own choosing ignoring the truth spoken to you…unless you culpability is low…or non-existant… But that would mean you are seriously mentally ill I think - other explanations are open for this illicit sinful act.

I am going to have to find out more about this. I can’t imagine the Catholic Church would be okie dokie about someone having a dual spiritual life, with another faith that even goes so far as to say the Creed is bogus!

I cannot see in any way shape or fashion how one could possibly find much commonality or congruence of beliefs between Catholicism and Mormonism…they are quite disparate and not only on the surface.

Here are a couple of links that will show that.

It almost makes me wonder if these “dual religion-ists” aren’t trying to play both sides of the coin…kinda like “hedging a bet”… Talk about “bad karma”!

About the only thing that wouldn’t change is claiming to have a leader who is infallible on faith and morals

Sorry, couldn’t resist.

But seriously…what would a Baptholic look like?
