Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI’s longtime personal aide says that the former pontiff might have tried to hold on to travel to Brazil for World Youth Day had it been held in 2014, but when it was moved up due to the World Cup, he realized he couldn’t make it and instead resigned.

It looks like he resigned because his doctor told him he couldn’t take extended airline flights and he felt that was part of the job.

Yes, St. JP2 raised the bar forever.

World Youth Day in Rio was right for
the newly elected Pope Francis, since
he’s a South American, so God worked
thru Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI’s re-
signation!! The Lord’s Purposes endures
forever!! Ps. 100:5

Waiting for the headline - “FIFA forced Benedict out of papacy”

:D.

although of course i prefer GLam8833’s reasoning. 👍

Now that the Cubs have won the pennant and lightning has struck the dome of St. Peter’s will he attempt a comeback? Tag team with Pope Francis who also hinted that HIS reign would be short?

😉

Benedict is a mental Giant who speaks many languages and has written some of the world’s most influential documents of our time.

But sometimes I wonder if he could even name the Cubs’ starting rotation. 😃

Maybe not but someone probably told him Schwarber was designated pinch hitter tonight. 🙂

Transatlantic flights were never part of the job. The world is a sadder less hopeful place since his resignation. His deep commitment to sharing the truths of the faith has been missed. Fortunately, as the world crumbles around us, he has left us quite a body of work to study amidst the howling ruins of Western civilization. I pray that his retirement has been everything he hoped it would be. I sincerely miss my German shepherd.
