This part in it struck me:
Q: How has the Benedictine presence in Bavaria influenced the new Pope, either at the theological level or in the choice of his name?
Abbot Wolf: The experience he had with the Benedictines in Bavaria seems to have had a real influence. He himself thought of entering a Benedictine monastery. There are 17 Benedictine convents in Bavaria.
The Bavarian mentality is very much influenced by the Benedictines. In the last years the Pope did his annual Spiritual Exercises in the Benedictine Abbey of Scheyern.
Pondering this, the cherished prophecy of St. Benedict of Nursia, etched in the Benedictine tradition, of the role of his order in leading the Church in her struggle against evil before the end times comes to mind. And so does the supposed connection of this prophecy to the alleged “Glory of the Olive” prophecy of St. Malachy.

I know - ain’t it grand. 🙂

What is the reaction to PBXVI in Bavaria? In Germany as a whole? In Austria?

Benedict XVI is no benedictine, tradition said that the Pope called Glory of the Olive was supposed to be of the Benedictine order. Guess what didn’t happen.

You haven’t been reading up on your prophetic claims. The only tradition out there was that the current pope may somehow relate to the phrase “glory of the olive.” Modern followers had hypothesized that perhaps this meant he would come from the benedictine order, or at least be related to it in some way.

Although this turn of events can be considered by some (including myself) rather intriguing, its not that important in the scheme of things. I dont’ know why people get so upset about it.

Ugh… not this again…
No kidding. If you can find a cardinal with no ties whatsoever to the Benedictines, I’d be surprised. I am almost surprised that someone hasn’t tried to make the connection from “Glory of the Olive” to our Holy Father by saying that he has a bear on his coat of arms and that they themselves once had the bears at Yellowstone steal olives from their campsite. *Stretching *hardly describes it.

AGH!!! IS THE END!!!

I’ll stick with "thief in the night’, thank you.

Oh, I didn’t know this. Where did you learn about this? Is there a website about this? Where is this Yellowstone? Who are you referring to as having allowed bears to steal olives? The Benedictines?

My dear bones_IV:

Here is the complete portion of Peter Banders’ book “The Prophecies of St. Malachy”, considered the “the most authoritative and enlightening edition of the prophecies ever to have appeared” about “Glory of the Olive”:
**Gloria Olivae
**The glory of the olive
Olive branch has always been associated with peace and this description might have been most fittingly applied to Pope Pius XII as a reference to his coat of arms. There is little doubt that this legend can be more easily explained in the future than the one before.
Some medieval interpreters have gone out of their way to stress that Malachy in his prophecies does not specifically mention that no Popes shall reign between and the last ; nor on the other hand does he mention that there will be others.
The Order of St. Benedict has claimed by tradition that this pope will come from within the Order. St. Benedict himself has prophecied that before the end of the world comes about, his Order will triumphantly lead the Catholic Church in its fight against evil. The Order of St. Benedict is also known as the Olivetans, which may well account for another interpretation of the prophecy.
If you read the last paragraph, you can clearly see that it is the Benedictine Order who laid the claim ACCORDING TO THEIR TRADITION-- THEIR BENEDICTINE TRADITION --that “Glory of the Olive” would come from within their order. This tradition originated from St. Benedict of Nursia’s prophecy that his order will triumphantly lead Holy Mother Church before the end of the world. St. Malachy NEVER SAID THAT “GLORY OF THE OLIVE” WOULD BE A BENEDICTINE! HE ONLY WROTE “GLORIA OLIVAE” AND NOTHING FOLLOWED IT. IT IS THE BENEDICTINES WHO MADE THE CLAIM. “GLORIA OLIVAE” DOES NOT REQUIRE A BENEDICTINE TO BE POPE FOR IT MENTIONS NO SUCH THING.

Also, you cannot exclude the possibility that St. Benedict of Nursia’s ALSO DOES NOT REQUIRE A BENEDICTINE TO BE POPE IN ORDER TO COME TO PASS. St. Benedict may have mentioned “triumphantly lead the Catholic Church”. It is not absurd to imagine this to require a Benedictine to be pope BUT ST. BENEDICT DID NOT SPECIFY THAT IT WOULD HAVE TO FULFILLED IN THIS MANNER. IT IS THE BENEDICTINE ORDER WHO INTERPRET THEIR FOUNDER’S PROPHECY TO BE FULFILLED IN THIS MANNER, NOT ST. BENEDICT. Seeing “Gloria Olivae” in another prophecy and reasoning that one of their branches is the Olivetan branch, they then put the claim that “Gloria Olivae” would be a Benedictine Pope according to their interpretation of their founder’s prophecy, an interpretation cherished throughout the history of the Benedictine order.

So in conclusion, I will reassert again that neither “Gloria Olivae” nor St. Benedict of Nursia’s prophecy ABSOLUTELY REQUIRE A BENEDICTINE TO BE POPE.

Guess what didn’t happen.

Thank you.

No it didn’t - some people interpreted it that way but the phrase had a probable 5 other interpretations too.
