Benedict XVI picks Philadphia to host the World Meeting of Families. It is slotted for September of 2015. It is expect to draw one of the largest crowds to the city, and as a result would give the city a an economic boost. The event will center around the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
In 1979, Pope John Paul II drew gigantic crowds when he visited the city as part of his first U.S. tour as pontiff. The Philadelphia region has an estimated 1.5 million Catholics and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia is one of the biggest in the country.
