I attended my first circle tonight. We prayed, studied a Gospel passage, listened to a related lecture, and did an examination of conscience. The subject matter was purity and the lecture itself was pretty good. I enjoyed the evening thoroughly.

:yup:

I especially love the realism of St. Benedict - from the ability to transfer as needed, the rearrangement of the Psalms as needed, and of course; allowing for ā€œthe duties of natureā€ when getting thyself to the Divine Office. 😃 It’s one of the things that attacted me to the Bennies.
That’s good to hear. I still remember you pulling away from the Dominicans some time ago, so I’m glad you feel so comfortable with the Benedictines. I enjoy your exchanges with folks like Luigi regarding the intricacies of Benedictine prayers and practices. Its fun to learn about the various orders, confraternities, institutes, etc. One can never learn enough.

I forgot you could transfer fairly easily with the Benedictines. That solves any problems. So long as you’re in agreement or conformance with their spirituality, you are in fine shape.
So far, I am in complete agreement with Benedictine Spirituality. It seems to fit me very well.

It is my understanding that some monasteries may have you go through some of your formation again depending on where you are transferring from, but from what I hear that differs from place to place. Either way, I can worry about that part in the event that it becomes an issue.

As I recall, you’re a professor, right? Luigi is a pharmacist. I’m a lawyer. I’m curious about the occupations of other CA members. I hope people see this post and respond. I imagine we come from all walks of life, which is a very good basis for the exchange of ideas. Then too, I imagine our occupation has a significant bearing on our vocational choices.

I am.

Depending on the semester I teach some sort of graduate and/or undergraduate human physiology class, graduate and/or undergraduate biomechanics, undergraduate anatomy, and graduate research methods in various combinations.

ā€œ*So, a lawyer, pharmacist, and a professor walk into a barā€¦ā€ * šŸ˜‰

Ahem…LOL. 😃

I had no specific talent(s) in any tangible field, so I became a lawyer by simple process of elimination.

Brother JR is a little obvious too. Catholic Fireman pretty much gives all away at one glance.

Ha! I pretty much ended up as a professor in the same way. The real world wasn’t really doing it for me so I went back to grad school and just sort of never left.

Yes. I sent him the webcam site of Old Town Manassas in case he got home sick.

There is a good-sized secular Franciscan fraternity that meets in Manassas about 10 minutes from my home. If I remember correctly, they meet at All Saints Catholic Church.

I go to Manassas so I can eat a Big Buford or Chili Dog at Checkers.

Yes, that’s my parish. šŸ™‚ I didn’t know how large it was. There is also a Benedictine Oblate group (?) at the Benedictine Monastery in Gainesville.

Go to Tony’s NY Pizza, the old one, not the new one. Or, go to the Ashton Family Diner for their breakfast buffet. It kicks butt, particularly on holidays. The taco trucks located just off of Old Town are very good as well.

They just built a huge new Catholic Church in Springfield. Very nice. We went there for Easter Mass. Check out the picture of the Church:

I never heard of St. Raymond of PeƱafort before. Have to look him up.
