Don’t know of a “how to” guide like that. I can’t really imagine how you can combine the various steps, or frankly, why you would want to. One of my monks referred to lectio as “wasting time with God.” (Wasting in the sense of spending, not in the sense of doing something useless.) If you’re hanging out with a friend, then why not just hang out instead of worrying about what the two of you are accomplishing or how long it’s taking?
Excellent point! I will do it by steps, then. I actually think I may have gotten something for just a second during Contemplatio today.

Luigi,

I guess self-preservation must guide your path. If you can’t do it with the Franciscans, you must move on. You gave it your best. Looking at the Benedictines as a lateral move is wise and very practical. Accessibility was always a concern of mine while investigating third orders. Thank God, Opus Dei is everywhere!

I think its wise to pray throughout the day. Rosary early, the Preces and Angelus at mid day, then the balance of my devotions at night. Gentle reminders of God’s presence throughout the day.

Thanks my friend 🙂

Actually it isn’t (at least out here). The nearest one near me is 1.5-2 hours away 😦

Dave,

You have got to try the Liturgy of the Hours. You will love it.
There are online versions.

I’m curious about what form(s) of prayer really work for you…fulfill you, allow you to communicate with God, that you enjoy. Lectio sounds like it’s just work.

Actually no. I do have absolutely no problem with the 1st 3 steps, at all.

I’d say for me it’s
  1. Liturgy of the Hours
  2. Rosary
  3. Private “just talking with God”. I do this a lot…
  4. Angelus
  5. Lectio (it would probably be #3, at least, if I could “get” Contemplatio. Today was maybe the first step at that, I think. )

Dave,

Thought you might like to have this for your avatar. 🙂

If not, no worries 🙂

Ah, the cover of John Allen’s book. I like it. I’m not allowed to use an “outside” avatar until I’ve posted more at the CA forums. I’m restricted to CA’s plain choices - no Ultra Man, Superman, or Opus Dei avatars (sigh). Guess I’ll just have to keep gabbing away until I hit the magic 1,000 posts, or whatever the minimum requirement is.

Does anyone know how many posts until I reach custom avatar status?

You’re almost there: 500 posts and 6 months here (you’ve already got the second part, obviously)

All right! I was thinking of changing my name to “Opus Dave”. I know you can’t change screen names, but its quite catchy, eh?

I’m not, but its a great idea. I would be curious what translation they use and how they have set up the psalter for the four week cycle. I was told that the Monks of the American-Cassinese Congregation are in the process of redoing their Divine Office schedule and working on ways to include more chant, etc. As such, I doubt that any book such as the one you linked would provide a similar schedule to what the Monks at St. Gregory’s use, but I may be wrong also.

I will probably look into it.

Peace,

Please let us know, Jason. Thanks!

Sad news today. Fr. Patrick Moore, 7th Abbot of Assumption Abbey, was killed in a car accident last night. Please join me in praying for the repose of his soul and the comfort of his brethren.

😦

Prayers offered. 😦

Ditto. Just as tragic as the recent story about the young priest killed in an accident while on his way to celebrate his first Mass.
