No apology required. Your response is fair enough. Don’t go there if you feel it will jeapordize your faith. Your “Perhaps someday I will be in a place” I think is perfect.

The older I get the more I become open to not being stuck in my own box with my own presupposition. I was just suggesting. That’s all. Pax

Cheers Tim. I really do appreciate the help. The older I get the more I realize what I have been missing all along and the more I want to dive into it.

Guess we are just at difference places in our Faith journey. 🙂

Well, its far from worked out, but I am certainly more optimistic than I was yesterday at this time. Clear Creek is about 5 hours away from where I live but it will likely be worth it. The more I learn about Benedictine Spirituality, the more I like it.

One of the things which was in the article sent was interesting. They do not have Oblate meetings, they deal with their Oblates individually.

Thanks for the support, I will of course keep everyone in the loop with what happens. I have a few other e-mails out as well so its hard to know where this is going right now.

Peace,
Wow, interesting:thumbsup:

Jason,

I truly believe that you have found your home.

Prayers offered (again).

Thanks for the prayers as always. As for the rest, it is early, very early, in the process. In addition, I have some e-mails out to other monasteries as well. I am cautiously optimistic about Clear Creek, but that is as far as I can take it at this point.

Peace,

Works for me 😃

Praying for you Jason. If it helps, I also had a lot of emails to various monasteries, most of whom turned me down due to distance. God will put you where He wants you. 🙂

Prayers offered for a safe delivery and a healthy baby. 🙂

Tim,

I do not mean this as a slap to your post in any way, OK?

Been there, done that, though, with another group of the Church. Some very wonderful people, so I stayed (for 10 years). A very vocal minority that were espousing ideas that went against the teachings of the Church. Kept saying to myself “well, they are on the opposite side on several issues; maybe God is trying to test my patience/humility/loyalty/what have you”. In the end, I just couldn’t take it anymore. So I left. Very difficult decision, I can assure you.

I love my Bennie group. They “fit” so well, that at times I wonder if it isn’t too “easy”*. I have prayed and prayed and prayed about this. My conclusion: they fit because, well, they fit. Stop fighting it, Lou.
  • I am not saying that they are a perfect fit. They are very Charismatic. Not saying that it’s wrong for them to be so. It just isn’t my “thing”. But it isn’t harmful and is rooted in a love of the Holy Spirit. Maybe letting go and accepting the fainting 😃 is my “challenge” .
I can live with that. Much better than having to deal with an openly lesbian “couple” (with child 😦 ) as I had to in my former group, that’s for sure.
OK. 🙂

Understood. I probably would not have stayed long in the same situation.

Those of you who know my history know that I have been in formation with the Dominican Laity for approx. the past year. So, this looking into the Benedictine Route is fairly new to me in terms of time, though I do tend to read quite a bit. Since I have not made professions to the Order of Preachers and until God reveals which direction He prefers for me and I make a decision either way (Dominican, Benedictine, Neither), I plan to continue studying and exploring both Orders.

So, here is a question which has come up in my looking into becoming a Benedictine Oblate. How does the dynamic of non-Catholic Oblates affect formation, teaching, doctrinal discussions, liturgy, etc? I know that it is common for non-Catholics to become Oblates. However, one of things I cannot imagine is how one has a discussion about authentic Catholic teaching or spirituality when several people in the room fundamentally disagree with the Church on many different issues. Again and again, when I read about the practice of non-Catholic Oblates, it causes me to take a step back.

Thoughts?

Peace of Christ,

Jason,

I can’t be much help, because my group does not have non-Catholics.

I must admit that I’ve always thought it a tad odd, TBH. Particularly in light of R73
(the Rule of St Benedict, Chapter 73)

Note my edit, above. 😉

I do think that there are many monasteries that do have nonRC. I am fairly certain that the many groups run by mine do not, though.

In all honesty, and I do not mean to judge the nonRC that are Oblates, I just can’t understand how they feel confortable about meetings. If they are, great. I just can’t understand how in light of the Liturgy of the Hours, prayer time, etc.

It doesn’t make much sense to me either. I understand welcoming all as Christ, as that is an obviously Benedictine approach per St. Benedict himself. But non-Catholic Oblates don’t make as much sense to me I guess. I don’t know the Rule as well as you do, but off the cuff, I agree with your statement about Chapter 73. Particularly as it refers to following the teachings of the Church Fathers, etc.

Also, I certainly would not have a problem with Eastern Catholics becoming an Oblate, just for clarification purposes.

If I may ask, what group of Benedictines do you belong to, since you suggested that they do not accept non-Catholics?

I am not 100% sure that they don’t, but I know that my chapter does not. (We’ve actually discussed it a bit).

Olivetan.

Here is the “mother monastery”, I guess you’d call it near Siena.

Interesting. There is an Olivetan Double Monastery (Monks and Sisters) about 5 hours away from where I live. I made some contact with one of the brothers and they are sending me an information packet at some point. pecosmonastery.org/

Peace,

Peace,
Wooooooohoooooooo. Now wouldn’t that be awesome?😃

Wait, this monastery is in New Mexico?

Hahahahahahahahahaha. The Lord works in mysterious ways, indeed.😃

The late Abbot of my monastery and most of the brothers came originally from Pecos.

If you choose them, we will be related 😃
