I disagree. I think it was a balanced and fair summation of the encyclical. The Times included Fr. Fessio’s comments for the purpose of heading off any unjustified liberal inferences which the heterodox might try to foist on the Faithful.
You know, one has to laugh at this title of NY Time’s article. I think what the reporter was trying to say is that this much feared “Rotweiller” Pontiff has released an encyclical on love with the agenda that the Pontiff avoided “unpleasant” orthodox catholic doctrine about not killing babies or being faithful to your spouse. The left has this impression that a teaching about love will somehow show “openness to new ideas” (i.e., heresy) and that opposing heresy is the same thing as hating someone. The New York Time’s is the most glorified piece of excrement of on this planet.I’d say the article itself is good but that the headline is misleading
Aren’t you being a tad unfair–at least as respects this article? Yes, the headline is arguably misleading but the text is not. I credit the reporter’s solicitation of Fr. Fessio’s views. I don’t think the text presented a slanted view. The wishy-washy German’s quote was very ambivalent; he wasn’t jumping for joy and implying that the Church was about to validate homosexual marriage, abortion or any other sin. Orthodoxy does not have to be stated in condemnatory language. This is a reality that many Orthodox should take to heart (and I’m one of y’all! )You know, one has to laugh at this title of NY Time’s article.
