For those who love the rosary, may I suggest one of the best Catholic books I’ve ever read…and it covers the rosary, it’s history and the mysteries…and SO much more.

Rosary: Mystery, Meditation and the Telling of the Beads

by Kevin Orlin Johnson, PhD

It’s available at amazon and many other places.

I’m a Catholic cause it gives me a hit. But even if it didn’t I’d probably still be one.
If you don’t believe in the promises or only in God in a notional sense like most people then take it from me that doing the five decades every day makes you brainier - i.e. it increases your IQ - more creative - you have more innovative and frequently bright ideas. It also makes you calmer, if you’ve got depression and anxiety problems like I have it’s just as if not more effective at calming me down than the anti-depressants I took.
It also lifts your mood, wether your a believer or not scientific trials have proved that when compared to a test control group of people with very similar brain chemistry who were not asked to pray the rosary daily the other group who did showed much higher levels of serotonin and dopamine in the brain just as a result of the meditation.
I would strongly advise you to pray the Rosary, all five decades daily, wether your a true believer or you don’t believe in diddlysquat. It’ll improve your life, just try it.

You’ve convinced me… I am going to start praying the rosary. I never thought I would be into it. So… I am now going to start.
Thanks!

Hello every one… this is my first visit here… i got into this forum when i googled… advantages of praying rosary…

Well… I have a firm belief in Mary and her importance in spiritual life… I use to pray regularly sometimes very rare… I have some kind of a strong belief in rosary… I felt it has helped me in solving some problems… eventhough those may look less a problem to others.

sometimes i doubt its power… i use to feel tht praying rosary is simply not useful or just repetetive… anyway i am trying to pray it nowadays regularly… may not be with enough attention to it…

I really wish and hope that it vl help me to get thru my problems and help me to build a good life…

The rosary is the best weapon we have to fight temptation, and to keep ourselves and those we pray for holy.

Welcome JasJose, glad you’re here! 👍

Thank you for that source. I would also recommend *Father Peyton’s Rosary Prayer *Book. Our Lady asked at Fatima that we pray the rosary everyday for conversion and to bring peace to the world. When I first started to say it, I found it difficult. Now, I just love to say it. I especially enjoy saying it at adoration or in front of the tabernacle.

As a convert to the Church it took me a long time to get to the point where I enjoyed praying the Rosary. For the longest time it was very boring to me. Now I turn to the Rosary almost every day as a source of support and peace.

As I launch on a crusade of daily prayers and Rosries in the hopes of my family being converted out of atheism and into the Church, I’m curious: Has anyone recieved any benefits, spiritual or “prayers answered”, through the praying of the Rosary? Do you have any Rosary-oriented testamonies to share? Has praying the Rosary changed anyone’s life?

God bless!!!
i find the thought of praying the rosary boring…but when i have done it, it feels enjoyable and i feel euphoric when ive done it…🙂

. . . . Has anyone received any benefits, spiritual or “prayers answered”, through the praying of the Rosary? Do you have any Rosary-oriented testamonies to share? Has praying the Rosary changed anyone’s life? . . !
As a kid and cradle catholic, I probably should have been dead, or at least seriously maimed, due to all the stupid stunts I did back then. And my brothers too. My GrandMother prayed a LOT of Rosaries! - Daily. I never understood then why she did. We would join in when we visited her- we surely said more then than when we were at our own home. I did so ‘grudgeingly’. Then there was the tornado that uprooted trees on all sides of but didn’t so much as leave a scratch on the ‘shack’ (grandma’s house) that we were all in, praying the rosary feverently, as the house shook. Thanks grandma! I miss grandma.

My stupidity continued into my young adulthood as I left home (and left church behind at the same time). By now my mom was praying up a storm - the Daily Rosary. Eventually I came back around to the church (Certainly due to the power of prayer - yet not my own), met my wife, married in the church, and our family was started. Thanks mom! I miss my mom.

I was still pretty much clueless, but once we realized, wait- we have to teach these young’uns some catechism, the need was then realized to also TEACH the Rosary. Continuing on, and dealing with life’s trials, the Rosary became our ’ Nuclear Option’ prayer of choice when confronted with issues we couldn’t overcome on our own.

Then, by introduction by some families whose spirituality we admired, we learned of the Total Consecration for families taught by the Family Apostolate - of which the Rosary is an integral part (link below). This began the transformation of our faith lives from a ‘conformatory’ mode to a true thriving & lived spirituality. Our lives were transformed from merely ‘knowing’ our faith, to LIVING and loving our faith - as a family. And it didn’t stop there.

We now lead a group of families, meeting at our home weekly to pray the rosary and catechize ourselves and our kiddos and meeting at the church chapel weekly with them for an hour of family Eucharistic adoration and Rosary before the Blessed Sacrament. Did I mention I have 5 kiddos, all daughter! Seeing the love for Christ in our teens eyes - the excitement and Hope that they have for their futures - put such a FIRE for the Holy Spirit in our lives that we desperately want other families to share and experience! It’s there for the asking - free! - and the Family Consecration is certainly one of the paths to help get you there - as a Family!

So yeah, I would say that the Rosary has changed my life! Even ones that I did not say! Thanks Grandma for all the rosaries you faithfully said, and thanks Mom, for all the rosaries your faithfully said - I would not have made it here without you both!

I also used to think the Rosary was boring. That was before I realized I was praying it the wrong way. I would be very conscious of the prayers as I was saying them over and over.

But the purpose of the repetition is to serve as a mantra to clear your mind of extraneous thoughts, or in a way, to think of two things at once: love of Mary and love of Jesus by contemplating the mystery of the Rosary. It’s OK to let your mind wander a little – although I try to keep my train of thought on the mystery at hand.

I think it’s very important to spend a little time reflecting on the mystery and immersing your imagination into the scene before beginning the prayers.

I feel I have greater insight by asking questions such as “What must’ve been going through Mary’s mind when such and such happened?” “How did Jesus feel about what was going on?” “What questions would the other players in the mystery have on their minds as it was being lived out?”

Now, every time I pray the Rosary, I usually get something new out of it. I usually do it while taking a long walk. I have never felt love for Jesus and Mary so strongly and emotionally as I have during some of the best meditations. I don’t have those feelings every time though, but I thank our Lord for the extra treat when I do.

What bothers me slightly though is sometimes when I pray the Rosary with others. It’s what I call the Racing Rosary or the Auctioneer’s Rosary, with a brief one sentence meditation announced before the starters pistol fires. I think some people pray it just to get that checkmark on their scorecard, and the faster they can get it over with, the better.

Perhaps I am being overly judgemental though.:tsktsk: People have different ways of praying and if it brings them closer to Jesus and Mary, it’s a good thing no matter how it’s done.
Not sure how this thread got resurrected after so many years, but reading this post, if I had to write a blurb or commentary about the rosary, it would look like your post.

I agree with this post too. Try it. You may say or write things which in hindsight you will say “Wow, that was really eloquent !!”

Nice post. I too have been protected not only disfigurement or death but other potentially terrible things that I attribute to the prayers of those around me. I too thought the mass was boring in my youth, and later questioned whether the rosary was Mariolatry.

Anyway, things have a funny way of turning out, no ?

My prayer was answered through the Rosary. Thank you Mother Mary for your aid and intercession (:

Hello, I may be new, but I have recently started praying the Rosary for a few days now. The following things have happened to me after reciting the Rosary(they may not be earth-shattering miracles, but they’re a big deal to me 🙂 ):

1.on Tuesday, there was this creepy guy online. I remembered then about the Rosary, so I got out my copy of the “Your Rosary Booklet” that I received a few years back from the Franciscan Mission Associates and began to pray the whole thing (with the help of the booklet, of course). Since then, he has left me alone (so far 😉 ) Who knew that the Rosary would make such a great shield against certain souls who suffer from lust?
  1. on Thursday, my mother and I were carrying lots of stuff for the homeless. We were about to enter a local 7 Eleven when this lady appeared to hold the door for us. Her eyes were very blue (kind of like the eyes of the Blessed Virgin Mary, blessed be her name). When we were done buying stuff from said place, she appeared again to open the door for us. Then she vanished. (we appreciated it) I get the feeling that she was an angel (or perhaps the Virgin Mary herself 🙂 )

It’s good that you recognize that these little things might actually be a direct result of your prayers generally, and the rosary specifically.

By definition, miracles are highly rare and inexplicable events - and so for most of us, evidence of God’s love for us is in little mundane things in our daily lives that, like delicate threads that amount to little individually, eventually make a strong rope (like the cables holding up the Golden Gate Bridge - have you ever seen a cross-section? Thousands of steel strands…).

Anyway, you can add #3 to your list. Another wispy strand that by itself seems like nothing, but I believe is significant.

The timing of your post… Why right now, as I wake up very early this Sunday morning and actually debate whether to go to mass today? And right before August 15? And after what seems like more than 1 year since I’ve received an e-mail saying “Someone has responded to the thread (…)”.

In fact, I have been quite frustrated with God for many, many weeks now - it is said that God always asks for more from us. More. More. More.

And I have had enough of His demands - so much so that last night I said “non serviens” - I will not serve.

No more prayers, no more charity, no more obedience…

Anyway, you can add this as #3 if you wish. I will be going to confession in about an hour…

Ok, well, I just checked on 3 things.

First, I read this entire thread - had no idea I posted several times already.

Second, it seems the last time I received any message from Catholic Answers was May 30, 2011. It is even longer since I actually posted here.

Third, it’s non serviam. I thought it would be cool to add some Latin, but the joke’s on me. Anyway, I guess I did not really say I will not serve, after all. Probably something like I have no serviettes (Canadians may chuckle at this).

I can also vouch for the power of the rosary. Recited deeply by concentrating on your words, it can be a quite powerful tool for strength and guidance. I never received any direct miracles per se like others would say, but rather just overall good fortune.

I have been troubled many times in life. From financial hardships, to family problems, to illnesses, relationship issues, near death experiences, tough battles etc. I have learned to pray the rosary on a daily basis and can gladly say I have triumphed in everything I’ve come across. I’ve prayed for others, and myself, and seen the results personally.

“Please continue to pray the rosary, and if you don’t mind, please add me to your petitions (I’m discerning between religious & married life right now and could really use your prayers!).”
Me too hahaha! Welcome to the club.

I read The Fifteen Promises from Mary to Christians Who Recite the Rosary. Are they approved by the Church? They sure seem heavy-duty with the promises of graces (Mary can give graces?), delivery from purgatory, and extra glory in heaven. This promise seems heaviest of all: “You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the rosary.” Wow! That’s heady.

I’m sorry, but I’m very skeptical. Can you help me understand the origen and orthodoxy of these Promises?

When did that rosary turn into gold??? Was it in front of everyone while you were giving your talk at the church?

These miracles are great to hear about! 🙂
It sounds great and very helpful! But where is God? Why would Mary take the place of God?
You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the rosary
If Mary will provide all that we ask, then we do not require God.

The rosary is basically all that keeps me from falling back into addiction and misery and most probably Hell. I was addicted to pornography, gaming, and online stories. It’s been 72 days since I’ve touched any of that material. I’ve tried to quit for 4 years without prayer, to no avail. I was also a very depressed and unhappy person. I know for a fact that once I stop the rosary, it’s only a matter of days before I’m overwhelmed. Quite a few times I felt overcome by temptation, dropped everything, ran to my rosary, and started reciting it. After 5 decades, temptation GONE. Also, I remember twice I was very angry and hateful towards myself and of others for no good reason. I felt like the devil was filling my mind with evil thoughts. I decided to pray the rosary, and the peace afterwards was UNBELIEVABLE.

I also believe that I was saved from perdition though the prayers of my aunt and grandmother who are very religious. I am now praying daily especially for my parents, who remain atheists. I have a LONG list of prayers. I pray basically for:

Family, Friends, my church, priests, nuns, bishops, seminarians, the pope
knowledge of my sins, criminals, humility and faith
mentally and physically ill, america, south and north korea
the depressed, suicidal, world leaders
those in mental and physical pain, the catholic church
the oppressed, those whom nobody else or few others pray for
the poor, hungry, homeless, the lonely and alone
the blind sinners who do not know God
children, orphans, the addicted, the dying, those in purgatory

In the beginning, the rosary recited first thing in the morning was enough to keep most temptation away for the rest of the day, but nowadays, God has been asking more of me and prayers more constant throughout the day, or else the peace in my mind goes away and I start to feel the old restlessness once more. With this restlessness, I know that sin is dangerously close. I apologize for reviving this thread, but I felt I had to contribute, as it has changed my life. I must stress the importance of truly meditating upon each of the mysteries as deeply as possible on each decade. I close my eyes and imagine a movie playing out based on the relevant scripture in the bible or online descriptions. I pray that this has convinced at least one soul to pick up the rosary.
