It is not surprising. If one an EMHC long enough, one probably has seen many abuses of the Holy Communion. In our parish, it is quite common to brief EMHC on how to deal with such abuses when they occur.
Tackle the person to the ground, shove their face onto the host and force them to pick it up with their tongue?our parish, it is quite common to brief EMHC on how to deal with such abuses when they occur.
Yeah that’s not what I envisaged…A well meaning visiting priest put a host on the tongue of a woman who was so far advanced with dementia that she no longer remembered how to eat. My mom grabbed it out of her mouth and, not knowing what to do, ate it.
Why not?EMHC are not Sacrament Police.
It is, but that is what our bishops have asked us to do.It would be rather awkward to receive on the tongue if you are standing up, even for a tiny lady like me.
In the Catholic church a lay communicant is never allowed to intinct the host himself. Nor would a scenario like: communicant carries the host to the minister of the cup, who intincts it and administers to the communicant be in line with the prescripted practices of the GIRM.It would be even more awkward when you are offered the blood afterwards. (My estimate is 80% intinctate, 20% sip).
